Discussion of the Week

Welcome to this week's DOTW

❤️ ❤️ ❤️

I am Joti and I will be hosting the first wonderful DOTW after a while. We all agree that without JJKN our lives feel like they are missing something and that is why I think that the DOTW's are a great way to try and make up for that. It's a great way to interact with many other fan's. 🤗

This Week Our Topic is…

Jassi's Appearance

Here are some questions to get you started…

1. How do you think Jassi looked the first time you saw her?

2. Do you think Jassi was mistreated due to her appearance?

3. Was it right for Jassi to work in an environment where looks meant so much and expect to be treated like all the other women even though she wasn't "model material"?

4. Do you think in JJKN that appearance meant more than it should in life?

5. Was Jassi confident about her self or not and how?

6. What did you think of Jassi once her make-over was completed?

7. Did you see changes in ways that people treated her?

8. Did Armaan's feelings change for Jassi (appearance wise)?

These are just some starters feel free to add in more.

Since this can be a sensitive topic to talk about please do not say anything that may hurt others. Remember that these things do not apply to any person in particular and this should not be taken to heart or be argued over. As a great person once said "If you don't have anything nice to say don't say it at all."

I might just give a little prize to the best discussion that is done this week. Mod's if there is a problem with this please inform me immediately.

Thank you for your opinions.

Enjoy yourself. 😊

I hope I can do this again sometime. 🤗

See you a possible next time, if not

Remember I Love You all 🤗

1. How do you think Jassi looked the first time you saw her?

I was honestly shocked! I had missed all the pre-release publicity, and i caught the first episode purely by accident (bless that happy accident!😳) so when I saw Jassi, i had no idea she was the central character. I thought she was a random comic character whom they were making fun of. I was furious and made up my mind never to watch this serial again. 😕 Little did i know.....😉😳😳😆

2. Do you think Jassi was mistreated due to her appearance?

Definitely, but it was mostly in the initial stages. After some time in Gulmohur, the only people who were bothered by her appearance were Mallika, Pari and Maddy. Even Aryan mistreated her not because of her looks but because of her loyalty to Armaan. But yes, outside Gulmohur, I guess she had had a hard life: that Sameer guy ditching her😡, her neighbourhood loafers making fun of her, having no friends besides Nandu.....I can understand somewhat...don't many Indians still make fun of dark-skinned people for being "black"? 😡

3. Was it right for Jassi to work in an environment where looks meant so much and expect to be treated like all the other women even though she wasn't "model material"?

Why not? She got there purely on the basis of her abilities, and she did splendidly in that environment!👏 After all, even the most glamourous industries require people who can look after more concrete things such as finance. The glamour is only at the surface.....there is a lot more to fashion than that, and that is where people like Jassi are invaluable.

4. Do you think in JJKN that appearance meant more than it should in life?

Not as long as it stuck to the original script. It truly showed people that looks are only skin deep, and real beauty lies inside. I could feel my own attitudes changing as i watched the show. 👏 After the makeover, though, they just missed the whole point. 😭

5. Was Jassi confident about her self or not and how?

Jassi did suffer from an acute lack of self confidence. Actually, i would call it her innocence. She believed people, she took things at face value. In a superficial world, if one is too transparent, one suffers blows. Jassi did, and that made her scared to trust her own instincts.

6. What did you think of Jassi once her make-over was completed?

Although I had been waiting eagerly for the makeover, once i realised it really WOULD happen, i wished it wouldn't, that my adorable chashmish would remain the way she was! 😛 But i'm glad they changed her gradually so that viewers could still identify with her. I found her beautiful during the Jessica Bedi and JandA romance days. 😳😳😳 Sadly, her beauty was no longer accompanied by brains. 😕😆

7. Did you see changes in ways that people treated her?

Hmm....well most people who would never have given the time of day to the old Jassi, were falling all over the gorgeous Jessica. But her friends, family and Armaan did not change in their perception. They liked Jessica because she was humble and reminded them of Jassi.

8. Did Armaan's feelings change for Jassi (appearance wise)?

Initially, Armaan did not notice Jessica that way because he had no clue she was Jassi. But he was attracted to her, without knowing why. But when he finally knew, i guess he was dazzled that his little J had transformed into such a beauty...the besotted look in his eyes said it all! The love came BEFORE the makeover, but i guess the makeover made Armu take a little more pride in his Jassi.😳

Interesting questions, I hope i've answered them well! 😊

Truthfully, i was totally shocked! Woahh, after being used to seeing the glamorous lead actresses in dazzling saris and other other clothing living in a ginormous house, here comes a simple gal- hugeeeee glasses, oversized clothing, braces in her 20's. This was the main lead? But after seeing her cute clumsiness and her originality, things changed.

2. Do you think Jassi was mistreated due to her appearance?
That could be the only thing. The GM gang only treated her badly and played pranks at her firstly because of her appeaence and clothing-how she was different from all of them. Things only changed, when the people did. Only when they realized Jassi's sweet and simple attitude, they started to support her.

3. Was it right for Jassi to work in an environment where looks meant so much and expect to be treated like all the other women even though she wasn't "model material"?
I think so. You should do whatever dreams you have in life. To work in such a big, broad, and big name atmosphere was Jassi's dream. She even took on the job even though she became secretary only. I think she really wanted to be something in the world. She wanted to make her parents proud. She did what she wanted. She followed her dreams. In the end, she recieved happiness out of it.

4. Do you think in JJKN that appearance meant more than it should in life?
JJKN was like a total true life story. If someone tries out for a job in a company, they try to wear the latest trends, put extra make-up, try to look really nice in order to get a job-which should be based on qualities the candidate has-and experience. But yet people put on their glam, only so they can get the job. Jassi was different-she went her normal and original way-and in the end she proved that being yourself is the best thing to do.

5. Was Jassi confident about her self or not and how?
I think that it was her only confidence which enabled her to endure the taunts and fun-making about her appearence.

6. What did you think of Jassi once her make-over was completed?
Hmmmm, maybe the face changed. But i think she still remained the same, strong Jassi. I think it was good that, even though she turned beautiful, her thought and mind didn't change along with it.

7. Did you see changes in ways that people treated her?
But of course. After many people who probably didn't look at the old Jassi for more than a small glimpse- they looked at this new one for long. Its only natural. It is only the ways of the world.

8. Did Armaan's feelings change for Jassi (appearance wise)?
Well, Armaan started loving Jassi truly before the makeover, so I dont think so.

Thanks Joti, awesome questions.

Please guys participate. 😊

Okay, I'm going to be honest here. The first time I saw Jassi, I was really surprised because I really did not expect anyone on TV to be looking like that (especially the main character!!). But although I was initially a bit deterred from watching JJKN (for purely superficial reasons I'm sorry to say ), I began watching the show and really began to develop a liking for Jassi with her confidence in the way she was, intelligence, dedication, and all her other very positive values & aspects.

2. Do you think Jassi was mistreated due to her appearance?

Definitely- especially with her working in the fashion business where looks mean so much! Unfortunately, on first glance many people rejected Jassi outright and sometimes even made fun of her, like the GM gang did during the first days they saw her. But then as people got to know Jassi and her beautiful inside, many started to respect her and befriend her as did Armaan and the GM gang.

3. Was it right for Jassi to work in an environment where looks meant so much and expect to be treated like all the other women even though she wasn't "model material"?

Well I don't see why not. Everyone is entitled to be treated with respect regardless of how they may look. However, this is definitely the ideal situation and unfortunately, real life does not work that way so that is why Jassi was sadly not often treated in a respectful manner.

4. Do you think in JJKN that appearance meant more than it should in life?

Well..it did influence the way people treated Jassi and the show DID take place in a fashion house. And I think the importance of appearance today in life just depends on the environment that one is in and varies in different communites. If we take a look at a similar setting that JJKN took place in, I think looks would mean equally, if not more, important.

5. Was Jassi confident about her self or not and how?

Yup- I think she was confident, which was one of the qualities I liked about her. Despite the way she looked, she knew that she was very smart, hard-working, and capable of almost any task assigned to her and this reflected in her work. There were repeated incidents in which she scolded Nandu for trying to change himself, and Jassi would tell him something to accept the way he looked and just focus on more important non-aesthetic aspects.

6. What did you think of Jassi once her make-over was completed?

I know we all wanted to see what Jassi would look like after a makeover. 😆 Although some aspects of her remained the same, I did not think it was necessary for her to go modelling out of the blue and other such things. 😕

7. Did you see changes in ways that people treated her?

As for the people of Gulmohar, the people who had previously treated her disrespectfully because of her looks changed the way they talked and acted with her. But the more key people such as Nandu, Armaan, her parents, Bebe, etc., their treating of her did not change which brings me to the next question...

8. Did Armaan's feelings change for Jassi (appearance wise)?

Nope! He already loved Jassi long before the makeover for who she was and he had fallen in love with her inner beauty. If his feelings changed for Jassi after the makeover, that would not have been love but shallowness. 😕😕

Thanks for the great topic Joti! They questions were very interesting and thoughtful. 👏👏👏
