Cruising With Shilpa Saklani by The Social Raja
She is a hot newcomer set to make her debut in the much awaited Tere Liye. In a bid to bring you the stars before they shoot off into the sky, I got a mini tour of Mumbai with sexy Shilpa Saklani as she took me to her favourite places, giving one of her last interviews before she hits the big time. She is bright and bubbly and the one of the nicest people I have ever met. We start at Marine Drive It's really happening here. We have the Queen's Necklace, which starts at one end of Marine Drive and goes on to Chowpatty. It's in the shape of a necklace. It's really beautiful when you see it at night. I come here mostly in the monsoons when it's raining cats and dogs, it's a crazy high tide and you get drenched. I come here with friends and we have garama garam butas (corn on the cob), they put namak and mirch on them, they are so amazing. When did you decide to be an actress? I was studying and someone spotted me and said are you interested in doing an ad. I said excuse me, people aren't supposed to talk to strangers like that. Then someone from Vogue Communications saw my picture, I met the director, Mr. Ghadvi, and things clicked. It was never pre-planned. I always thought that I was a teenager who was alright to look at, someone who would graduate, get a job, get married and have ten kids. But now I'm here I will give it my best shot. Then we go to the plush US Club This is an awesome place to be in. We have the sea, greenery and a golf course. Big shots including Mr. Bachchan come here to play golf. We get excited when we know he is coming. It says members only A member can take a guest in.
What was the experience of Tere Liye like? It was an amazingly beautiful experience I will never forget. What were the highs and lows? The highs were that we all hit it off and became friends. The downside was the time restraints and the pressure that put on us, but we were so pumped up that we overcame that. Next it was time for food at Signatures restaurant in Juhu This is a beautiful place where I come and have the chicken chow mein in white sauce. The food here is totally tasty. Are you prepared for the fact that you will be public property? It's all part and parcel of the industry. The approach I would have at this point in time is that I wouldn't hide anything from anyone. If I have a boyfriend I will talk about him. What qualities do you look for in a guy? He has to be down to earth and accept me and my living style, the way it is. I get annoyed when couples change themselves completely for one another. Adapting is fine, but don't expect your partner to change. I ask for trust, encouragement and understanding and on my part I have complete respect for my family.
You must have a lot of guys hitting on you? I don't encourage talking to ajnabi guys (strangers). At college, if any guy tried to hit on me I would say I'm not the type, just chill. I find the guys that think they are cool cats who can talk to anyone annoying, that is a total turn off. Then it's time to catch a movie at Sterling Theatre It's a great cinema that shows only English films, it's awesome from the inside and has sexy popcorn. What's your favourite film? English films - it would have to be Top Gun, because I love Tom Cruise. Indian it has to be Hum Aapke Hain Kaun, because Madhuri Dixit is one thing that can't be created again. They should make a statue of her. She is an amazingly powerful actress. Which two heroes would you want to fight over you? It would have to be Richard Gere and Tom Cruise. I would go with Richard Gere, Cruise can wait. What would be your dream role? It would have to be Anjali in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai. After a long time a good role was written for a woman. Karan Johar did such a great job. Then we finish where we started at the Pizzeria on Marine Drive It's next to Jazz by the Bay, but not a part of it. It's got great pizzas here and the pepper sauce is great. What is the master plan from here? The acting bug has bitten me so hard, but I know that it's an unpredictable career. Who am I to make a master plan? I'm here with many others trying to make my way in the film industry. I will give it my best shot, work very hard, respect senior technicians and artists, try to grab something from them. If God blesses me, I'll be noticed one day. awwwwww shilpaš...she seemed such a sweet, down-to-earth person here...starting of as a newcomer...see people, look what fame does to you |
