Arman Sir's wife on show

While the audience is praying that Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin runs its final show, Sony is in no mood of bidding adieu. And funnily, Manini De's broken leg has created quite a development on the show. We hear the Kkusum number three, Shilpa Saklani, will be entering the track to make up for De's absence.

Last seen 'toothless' on Nach Baliye she will now double up with hubby Apoorva Agnihotri and appear in a (thank God!) cameo role. This happens to be their first shot at appearing together in a serial. The couple is sure going to enjoy the acting.

K3G expected to replace Jassi...

Will she be the next Jassi?

Sapana Patil

Deepa Parab

http://www.mumbaimirror.com/nmirror/mmpaper.asp?sectid=19&am p;am p;articleid=3192006214916713192006214820953

With the onslaught of new shows, another entrant does not come as any surprise. Except that the show called Kabhie Khushi Kabhie Gham is expected to replace the very popular Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin when it launches this April.

Deepa Parab, last seen as the protagonist Jia on Zee's now extinct show Reth, is all set to play the lead and will be paired opposite Amit Jain, popularly known as Ronit of Ye Meri Life Hai.

The serial is produced by Shobhana Desai who has serials like, Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka and Hum Pardesi Ho Gaye (which marked Perizaad Zorabian's television debut) and the on-going Mamta to her credit.

K3G deals with the status of women in India, where Parab plays the daughter-in-law in the family. "It shows how some women get so involved taking care of the family that they ignore their own life,"says Parab. "The serial shows how women have to compromise in all walks of life. Like Reth, I have a non-glamorous look in this serial too. After working on Reth for two years, life had become a little monotonous. I had decided to avoid television for some time and do only commercials. But the project sounded interesting and I decided to go ahead with it. It feels nice to do good work, it gives me immense satisfaction."

This serial apart, Parab is awaiting the release of her Marathi film, Kshan (Moment).

Love in the time of saas-bahu sagas

Tony-Deeya's Singh's show to replace two shows on Zee TV

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Tony and Deeya Singh

After the success of their shows Banegi Apni Baat and Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, producer-director duo Tony and Deeya Singh are ready to re-create their magic on the small screen afresh, with their new show Jab Love Hua.

The show will be telecast on Zee TV. Word has it that Jab Love Hua has been positioned to replace Zee's two high-profile shows, Sarkaar and Rabba Ishq Na Hove.

"Yes, the show will premiere next month," says Deeya Singh. "I'm told that it will take the time slot that is currently occupied by Sarkaar and Rabba... Sudeep Sahir, (who starred in the 'Channa ve...' remix) model and newcomer Priya Badlani will play the romantic lead in Jab Love Hua."

Naturally one can't talk to Deeya Singh and not pose the obvious question: Will Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi go off air soon? "Yes, Jassi... will go off air soon, but I cannot give you the exact date," she replies. "Right now it's going on, and it will continue to do so until the channel tells us to wind up. We've left it to Sony TV to announce Jassi's farewell date."

Meanwhile the husband-wife duo is busy canning and giving final touches to their brand new show. Let's hope Jab Love Hua uplifts Zee TV's dipping viewership.

Mona breaks up with Karan
By: Tushar Joshi
April 3, 2006

Mona Singh and Karan Oberoi
They never went public about their relationship, but Mona Singh and Karan Oberoi were obviously in love.

The couple, spotted eating from the same plate once, refused to admit to being anything but "good friends".

Now, just a few months after they began dating, Mona has called the relationship off.

Career first

Close friends confirm that Mona and Karan are no longer together. Reveals Mona's actor friend, "She was definitely interested in him. But her priorities have changed, and Karan isn't one of them. After Jassi ends, Mona wants to move to films and has made it clear to him that she will not be able to commit now."

Adds a pal, "Last year, after Karan presented Mona with an award, it was clear that he was getting close to her family. That was the first time you could see in public how much they enjoyed each other's company."

Mona leads the way
She backed off

So what went wrong? "She got scared of committing, and decided to back off. And he obviously couldn't wait. Also, the fact that her pictures were appearing in newspapers with him got to her. She didn't want to get written about, except in connection to her work."

Said an actor, present at a recently held television party, "You should have been there to see the distance between the two.

It's back to square one for the couple
Throughout the evening, neither spoke to the other. Mona was busy dancing with Nandu (Gaurav Gera) while Karan decided to make an early exit."

When contacted, Karan said, "As far as Mona is concerned, we have always been the best of friends and still are."

Mona refused to acknowledge the relationship. "I have never had any relationship with Karan Oberoi; I am very much single. In the future, if I find someone who's eligible, I will go public with him. Please don't link me with a person I am not dating."

Money talks

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin

Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka

Kasautii Zindagi Kay

Shararat

Ek Ladki Anjaani Si

If you thought that only films had big budgets, you've got to think again. Here's a peek into how much moolah goes into making TV soaps

Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi

This is perhaps the costliest show on the small screen. It is said that every episode of the show costs around Rs 18 lakh. Tulsi's elegant saris and Mihir's expensive suits definitely don't come cheap. The fees charged by these actors only add to it. The show is still going strong and hence neither the producer nor the channel is complaining.

Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin

Jassi's heavy duty saris account for most of the money spent on this show. Each outfit that the duckling-turned-swan wears costs Rs 20,000 and above. The approximate cost per episode of the show is Rs 10 lakh. This also makes the show the costliest one on the channel. To cut costs, the Jassi… team often shoots in bungalows instead of constructing sets.

Sinndoor Tere Naam Ka

It costs Rs 4 lakh on an average to make one episode of this serial. Around Rs 2 lakh is spent on the stars, collectively. The cost of technicians is another Rs 1 lakh. Despite having made detailed calculations of the amount required, budgets tend to swell up by 20 to 25 per cent every time. Sets, equipments and production costs (editing and dubbing) constitute an extra Rs 2 lakh.

Kasautii Zindagi Kay

Since Balaji shows have high production values and expensive stars, Kasauti Zindagi Kay costs no less than a whopping Rs 13 lakh per episode. Designer clothes and grand sets leave no room for cutting costs.

Shararat

This weekly show runs on a modest budget of Rs 4 lakh per episode. Barring veteran Farida Jalal, the entire cast of the show is relatively new. However, no compromise is made on production values. This show has been successfully running for three years

Ek Ladki Anjaani Si

One episode of the serial costs approximately Rs 6 lakh. Artistes' wages constitute 25 to 30 per cent of the budget. Technicians and creative people take up another 35 per cent. The balance is spent on location and production.

Jassi makers march Left Right Left!
By: Tushar Joshi
April 7, 2006

Tony and Deeya Singh with Mona Singh
Their current show, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, is on its last legs, but the husband-wife jodi of Tony and Deeya Singh is busy writing the script and finalising the cast for their new show on SAB TV, titled Left Right Left.

The industry is abuzz with talks about probable actors slated to do the show.

Said a source working on the show, "It's going to be one of the biggest shows on television, and the drama's stronghold is its story. From what I hear, Shveta Salve and Rajeev Khandelwal will be part of the project."

Deeya refused to divulge any information, but confirmed she's working on the show. "I am very excited about Left Right Left. I haven't figured out my cast yet, but will let you know as soon as I do It's about the coming of age of a bunch of people."

With Aamna again?

Rajeev Khandelwal
Sources said the show might go on air in the coming months, and that after Jassi, this would be the biggest show the Singhs have scripted. Khandelwal too confirmed that he might in. "Yes, I have met them, but haven't signed the contract yet.

However, it looks very positive. In all likelihood, I should be doing it. I won't be able to reveal anything about my character at this stage."

The actor has also shot for the pilot of another show, titled Hum Do Hamare Nauh, opposite former co-star Aamna Shariff.

Website gift

On the personal front, Khandelwal is lying low and taking time to figure out what he wants to do.

Recently, a lady fan made a website for the actor and sent him the link. As a token of appreciation, Rajeev decided to make it his official website.

"Yes, www.rajeevkhandelwal.net is going to be my website, through which I can interact with my fans. I think it was very sweet of her to take the time to build this website," he says

Another Mandira in the making?

Manini De to host a cricket show starting today, a la Ms Bedi

Reena Thapar Kapoor

Manini De

Manini De might be the next Mandira Bedi in the making. After playing the ditsy Pari in Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahin, Manini will be hosting a daily cricket commentary show called Not Just Cricket for the Eurasia cricket series along with VJ-turned-actor Gaurav Kapoor. The show will be aired on Sahara One from today.

Manini is the third actress from the television world to host a cricket-based show, her predecessors being Ruby Bhatia and Mandira Bedi.

While Manini is excited about the show, she is apprehensive about the reaction it will generate. "I'm looking forward to it, as it is my first time," she says. About the show she says: "The channel has asked me to be myself in the show. I know that I've played a certain character that has become my identity but this is a serious job. I'm going to try my best to give it my best shot."

She is also looking forward to working with her co-host, Kapoor. "I'm sure having Gaurav around is going to be great fun. Apart from the serious discussions we'll be also adding the light moments to the show," says Manini. In the past Mandira Bedi had been very successful while doing a similar show – Extraa Innings. Mandira's popularity had scaled such heights that her clothes and hairdos had become a style statement. What is Manini look going to be like? "My look will be Indo western and very stylish. I've my own style and charisma. I've given my designer categorical instructions on presenting me in an intelligent way. I'm not going to just add the glamour element to the show," says Manini.

What about being intimidated by the comparisons that will be drawn with Mandira? "I've not taken over Mandira's job. What she did in Extraa Innings was outstanding and commendable," she says. "It takes courage to sit amongst experts and talk about the game. She did a fabulous job during World Cup. As for me, I'm only trying to deliver the goods to the best of my ability. Honestly, I'm nervous. On second thoughts, I feel I must call Mandira and take some tips from her. She is a gutsy woman."

Is Manini well-versed with the game? "I am not going to pretend to be an expert. My knowledge of cricket is very basic. I have never been an avid watcher of the sport but whenever India plays Pakistan I make it a point to catch the game," she says. "Currently, I'm reading books on cricket and talking to experts to brush up on my cricket knowledge.
