We all have the hots for army men. And what if one of our favourite actors don the uniform? It surely calls for double celebration. We were recently in for a pleasant surprise when we spotted Shashank Vyas in military gear " complete with those camouflage prints and sexy shades. The actor, who became a household name after playing Jagya in the hit show Balika Vadhu, is now playing an army officer in the Star Plus show, Jana Na Dil Se Door.
On being back on TV
In Shashank's own words, he used his 13-month break to recharge his batteries and indulge in his favourite hobby, travelling. But now that he's back, he is very kicked about his re-entry into the telly world, and, most importantly, the role. "I am happy that being patient has paid off in the form of this exciting new character I'm portraying in Jana Na Dil Se Door. I play Ravish, an army officer. He is a simple guy and has immense respect for women. He will go to any extent to safeguard their dignity. For Ravish, his family and his country are his priority," says Shashank, who looks hot in his new crew cut avatar " a stark contrast from the long crop he sported as Jagya, the village boy.
The big dilemma
While Shashank is happy that he's finally able to experiment with his look for this show, he also tells us what was the most difficult part about getting into this character. "To be honest, it was very difficult to cut my hair so short because I have always loved my long hair. Believe me, in the last 15 years this is the shortest hair that I have ever sported. When I heard of this part, I was a bit skeptical about the look, but then I closed my eyes and thought about the character. I knew I had to go for this look. And, since I like to be in the skin of the character I play, I chose to grow a real moustache. It actually worked well. I, in fact, got a few compliments for it, too," he says. And we can't agree more.
Prepping up post break
It's been 13 months that Shashank left Balika Vadhu, but that didn't dampen the actor in him in any way. In fact, he says that apart from getting the look right, he didn't have to do much to prepare for the role. "I have not done any kind of preparation. I just focused on the fitness part which I anyway did all of last year. Also, I was in NCC during my school days so I know the commands and everything quite well," says Shashank.
Losing prime time slot
Since his earlier show was at a prime time spot, one may feel that Jana Na Dil Se Door is some sort of a compromise. It airs at 5.30 pm. But Shashank is least perturbed.
"Why should one play safe all the time? For me, it's all about the content, my role and the people I am working with. When I came to Mumbai, I never thought that I would work in a prime time show, but I did. My craft is not connected to which time slot my shows get."
