Even rains didn't stop him

Sudeep Sahir, who plays Raghu, the country bumpkin in Jab Love Hua recently suffered a bout of food poisoning. But that didn't stop the actor from going on the sets. "I had 103 degrees temperature but the shooting was a priority," says Sudeep. The actor who's enjoying himself in the village attire, shot continuously for 48 hours to wrap up his scenes. One of the reasons, he had to shoot non-stop was the rains that had disrupted the shooting schedule. Also, since he was going on a 16-day honeymoon trip to Europe, it was imperative that he finish his portion of work before he took off.

Jab Love Hua gets a DJ

Mohit Malik, last seen as Aaoni of Millee, had disappeared from the tube for quite some time but now he's back with a prominent role in Zee's Jab Love Hua.

Mohit Malik surrounded by colleagues Aditi and Krishna at a Millee party

This actor from Delhi is all set to play a disc jockey (DJ) who falls in love with Aanya (Priya Badlani). "I play a cool, rich brat who belongs to the Raichand family. He meets Raghu (Sudip Sahir) and befriends him. I provide the fourth angle to the love triangle between Raghu, Aanya and Gauri, but there are no grey shades to him. Producer Deeya Singh sat with me to explain the details of the character. Besides it's got a good cast and a great environment to work in," gushes the actor who will be sporting a spiked hep look.

Mohit began his career with modelling, ventured into television with Palkhi (Zee) and then went on to do a cameo in Kumkum besides Millee. He has has already commenced shooting for his new show and his character will come on air in a week's time.

'Aanya is just an exaggerated version of me'

Priya Badlani

Priya Badlani talks about her foray into television

Aditi Jayakar Kane

• Where were you before you got a role in Jabb Love Hua?

I was very much in Mumbai. I studied at the Avabai Petit school and then went to MMK college. I always wanted to do something different with my life. I studied photography and took pictures of all my friends. I went for an audition for a soft-drink commercial with Aamir Khan, and landed up playing a behenji there. That's when Ashutosh Gowariker told me to take acting seriously.

• How did you land the role of Aanya?

I got a call from the channel to audition for the role. I was told to introduce myself and I just rambled a few lines about my favourite movie When Harry Met Sally, and how girls and guys should stay apart. Everyone was amused and I was selected.

• How much do you identify with Aanya?

Aanya is this spoilt, bratty character and through her I can vent out all my suppressed feelings! (laughs) Honestly, I'm a lot like her. Just that Aanya is an exaggerated version of me.

• How was the experience of shooting in a village?

(Laughs) Oh yeah! The first two schedules in the village were really tough. We shot in Wai where there were hardly any shops or places around. I used to take 8 bags with me! After pack-up the village would be really silent. But Suhasini Mule and I once dropped in at the Omkara sets over there and met Vishal Bharadwaj, Kareena Kapoor and Ajay Devgan.

• You've even done movies – Silsilay and Ram Gopal Verma's Naach. Why did you switch to the small screen?

I accept anything interesting that comes my way. I'm just looking for good roles. I think the writers of this serial are doing a fabulous job. I'm enjoying myself thoroughly. I get to do so many scenes and be somebody else all the time. I get to get away with a lot of things playing my character! Honestly it doesn't matter what I'm acting for. I like any form of acting, even street theatre is great.

• Is working for TV tougher than films?

It's certainly more hectic. In movies we end up doing two scenes in a day. Here, you shoot for nine scenes in the same time! It requires a lot of discipline and hardwork. But I'm having a great time.

• Have you considered working for Ekta Kapoor?

I think soaps have been done to death. I'll do it if something interesting comes up. I don't like doing anything monotonous. It all depends on the character I'm playing!

Sometimes television actors tend to fade away. One such personality was Mohit Malik, who was last seen as Aaoni of Millee. The good news though is that the actor has resurfaced once again. He will be seen playing a meaty role in Zee's Jab Love Hua.

This Delhi boy is all set to play a disc jockey (DJ) who falls in love with Aanya (Priya Badlani).

Mohit who began his career as a model, ventured into television with Palkhi (Zee) and then went on to do a cameo in Kumkum besides Millee. Expectedly, the young actor is terribly excited about his new role.

Love is round the corner

Thursday, July 20, 2006 18:26 IST

In a new twist in 'Jab Love Hua' (Zee), Aanya (Priya Badlani) will fall in love with DJ Rahul Raichand played by model-turned-actor Mohit Malik.

Originally from Delhi, Mohit shifted to Mumbai a year and a half ago. He made his foray to television with shows 'Palkhi' and 'Miilee'. "I have been doing TV commercials side by side. I am now glad to be a part of this show. I play a DJ who is chilled out and hip," he reveals.

The story in 'Jab…' has Aanya now in Mumbai. Here she will soon meet Mohit and get involved with him. Even though Mohit is aware that TV is ruled by women he says that it is time that tracks focus on male protagonists too.

"I know that soaps work only because they are women-centric. But I think the audience is ready for a change. We should have shows revolving around men too," he says.

Mohit is unperturbed by the fact that TV needs long and gruelling hours. "The basic rule of this industry is that you have to be prepared to shoot for at least 18 hours everyday. I remember having shot for two days continuously for 'Miilee'. It's part of the job. As long as you are enjoying it, it doesn't really matter," he smiles.

" I never thought I'd look good in front of the camera"

She was perhaps the most widely awaited face on Zee. Priya Badlani is not unfamiliar with fame. She shared screen space with Amir Khan in Ashutosh Gowarikar's Coke ad and also did a cameo in the Abhishekh Bachchan starrer, Naach. Priya, who wanted to become a stylist or a photographer, landed up in the industry thanks to Gowarikar. She makes her debut on television with Jabb Luv Hua and the actor is all set to make waves!

Kavita Shyam spoke to the perky Priya....

Me... I am a complete Mumbai girl, after completing my studies I did a course in Photography. I always wanted to do something behind the camera and I thought I posed like a monkey and never thought I'd look good in front of the camera. I did fair bit of commercials and I did this Coke ad with Amir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar and that's when he advised me to give acting a shot. I did cameo roles in Silsilay and Naach and did have options open to do more of that but I realised this offer had more scope to grow as an actor than anything else. It's a sensible decision besides I feel no genre of acting is different.

On how I bagged the role in Jabb Love Hua
I auditioned for the show and could feel the character well right from the beginning. I performed a skit to open up and followed it by a couple of look tests and finally I bagged the role.

My role in Jabb Love Hua
Anya comes from a good family where everyone has been very protective and possesive about her. She has got everything she wanted in a platter and has got it all too soon and comfortably , living in a paradise. So when she steps out in the big bad world she has to adapt to the different kind of lifestyle. It's about how she gets to the village and the twists in the tale following that. She does not think like a villager and it's about taming the shrewd with a love story attached to that. Both the guy and the girl have a different points of view but none of them are bad or arrogant.

Playing Aanya
I do relate to the character Aanya in many ways, maybe not in terms of her lifestyle.
It's her process of growth as a person and the situations she goes through which is something each one of us can empathise with. Every individual has different sides to them but I'd say I am not as cocky or snooty as Aanya but I am a lot like her as well.

My Experience with the team
I am extremely excited about this show and the different character that I get to play.I started having a ball while auditioning itself. It's fabulous to work with Sudeep, he's such an easy, balanced and focussed guy. Suhasini is the perfect lady and DJ's are so open-minded and different and keep giving suggessions to improve. Even if one of the actors is absent we really miss each other.

Preparing for my role
Modelling is very different from acting,it requires no thinking while acting one requires to do homework. We had a two day workshop, we were given character sketch as well. We work for 13 hours a day but I do lead a disciplined life otherwise. We work outdoors, when there is no light, stress and we are running out of time all the time, get our script last minute, go to the gym, so it's a tough medium. But each day I feel I am blessed to go to work and it's good income too.

Personal life
I have no time for anything in life. For now I am working, working and only working. I am absolutely passionate about my work so there's no time personal life. I wake up at five in the morning,go to the gym, go to work, come back home, watch movies, vegetate in front of the TV and crash. I am a very domesticated person and not at all into parties. I am pretty hyper and active person by nature.

Close Up

Mohit Malik
Actor
</>

How did you enter the TV world?
Initially, I did modelling in Delhi. Around one-and-a-half years back I came to Mumbai with the hope of making my way into the entertainment industry.
I went for auditions and even made it through some serials like Palkhi on DD and Milli for Star Plus. Besides that, I have also worked in Jab Love Hua which airs on Zee TV.

What are your current projects on television?
Currently, I am not really handlings many projects. For now, I am only concentrating on Jab Love Hua.

What characters would you like to play?
There's not one specific role that I'd like play. I believe that an actor should be able to do a variety of roles, be it that of a hero or even a villain. My role in Jab Love Hua is a very intent character. The character in the serial fluctuates from negative to positive.

What are your hobbies?
During my pastime, I love listening to music, reading books and watching movies.

What kind of movies do you like to watch?
I prefer watching Iranian movies and classical Bollywood flicks.

Your happiest moment so far?
I can't really say that I've had a happiest moment. But from what I can recall I was really excited when I bought a new house at Oshiwara.

Any future projects?
As for now, I am only reading scripts and trying to understand the characters. I want to select the right scripts before accepting any acting assignment. It's only when I'm completely convinced about a particular role would I accept the offer.

two-in-one honeymoon

Sudeep Sahir, aka Raghu in Jab Love Hua, celebrated his honeymoon and his wife's graduation ceremony in New York

Sapana Patil Poojary

High fever and rigorous work hours are not a deterrent for Sudeep Sahir. The actor who plays Raghu in Jab Love Hua, has just returned from his honeymoon with his wife Avantika. The two were married in April.

Sudeep had been unwell for some days. Nevertheless, not only did he continue working but also travelled with his wife to South Hampton in New York to attend her convocation ceremony. Indeed, Sudeep had been looking forward to attending the event for a long time and he didn't want to miss the chance—high fever notwithstanding.

"I had been ill for some time and had a temperature till the day we were supposed to fly. And Avantika had to be present at her convocation ceremony of her MBA course which she had completed at a South Hampton university last year. We couldn't afford to miss it," says Sudeep.

The actor had just received a 10-day break for his marriage and had informed his producers that would go on a breather some time later. "After we got married in April, we couldn't go on our honeymoon. Hence, we decided to couple our honeymoon with the convocation ceremony. She had planned all this nearly eight months ago," says Sudeep. "Avantika was looking forward to our honeymoon and I couldn't wait to see her receive her convocation degree. Even though I was ill, I didn't want to postpone the trip. The thought of Avantika getting her degree was such a great feeling that it helped me to pull through the rigours of shooting during the last few days before we left." Besides New York, the couple also visited London, Amsterdam and Paris.

Dressed to kill!

TV actor Priya Badlani's dress injures co-star... again!
HARSHADA REGE Times News Network

Oops, she's done it again! TV's Priya Badlani, who plays Anaya in Jab Love Hua, is making a habit of injuring her co-stars with her embellished clothes. Earlier, it was co-star Sudip Sahir aka Raghu, who was hurt, thanks to Priya's chunni and now it's co-star Mohit Malik who hurt his wrist in a shot.
Apparently, the first time around when it happened Sudip was upset with Priya for being careless. What does Mohit have to say? "We were shooting for a dance sequence where we were jiving. The dress that she was wearing was embellished and had a lot of sequins work on it and that kept rubbing against my wrist," says Mohit, who plays Rahul in the serial. Apparently, during the shoot after a while Mohit's wrist had scratches on them and he had to keep applying cream for the rest of the shoot. Co-incidentally, Priya and Sudip too were picturising a dance number when he had been hurt.
So what does the girl in question, Priya, have to say about 'injuring' her colleagues? "It's just a co-incidence. Thankfully, all of us are friendly and this is not an issue," says Priya. But Mohit adds, "Next time I have to do a dance number with Priya, I'll make sure I protect my hand with something!"

Himanshi plays the small-screen Basanti
Chaitanya Padukone
Sunday, March 12, 2006 19:25 IST

As Dingy in 'Des Mein Nikla Hoga Chaand' she went unnoticed. But it looks like Himanshi Choudhry is in for a big break. The actor plays Chamkee in producer Tony and Diya Singh's (of 'Jassi…' fame) upcoming show 'Jabb Love Hua' set against a rustic backdrop. Chamkee is the typical 'gaon ki gori' and apparently has shades of the chatterbox Basanti (Hema Malini) in 'Sholay'.

Himanshi says, "It was a challenge for a westernized girl like me to play this dehaati ladki." But wouldn't it be difficult for urban audiences to connect to a village-belle? Himanshi defends, "Not really, because Chamkee is a film-freak and is dying to run away to Mumbai to become a star. She is fun-loving and has a care-a-damn attitude."

There are urban characters too, but Choudhry gushes, "Tony and Diya are confident that Chamkee would be among the scene-stealers."

When contacted producer Tony confirmed, "We finalized Himanshi as Chamkee after auditioning a number of artistes. She is definitely the stand-apart character in the rustic setting." Interestingly, certain portions of the soap have been shot in the same countryside house at Wai where Shah Rukh Khan's 'Swades' was shot.

The cast also includes Bollywood actors Priya Badlani ('Silsilay') and Sudeep Sahir ( 'Ayushmaan'). The serial is expected to go on air by mid-April.
