He gently placed the wrap around her shoulder, as she ecstatically looked up at the night sky, nursing her left hand in her right. Nachiket looked at her and grinned - that drew his attention
'Why are you laughing now?' she asked, her eyebrows arching quizzically.

He laughed out aloud and he said
'You look like a kid, Ragini.'

He became serious in an instant though -
'I don't like it much. You hardly weighed anything when I picked you up some time back. Not that you weighed much earlier'

He frowned.

'Nachiket, relax!' she said.
'I know what you are talking about . I am sure Maa and Sunny Tai will stuff me once I am home, and I will be waddling around like a fat duck!'

He grinned as he visualised her waddling around, earning a swat from her.

'Ouch!' he shrieked. 'It hurts.'

They looked at each other for a while and then burst out laughing.

'BTW Ragini, you used to waddle around like a duck when you were pregnant. You were so cute' He quipped

Ragini shook her head, he would always have the last word. And she loved him so much for the same.

It was a beautiful night - clean and clear. She could see thousands of stars up above in the sky, they were like a cluster of diamonds which somebody had scattered all across. The twinkle of the stars caught her eyes and smile and he stared at her mesmerised.

Later, he wheeled her back to her room and then placed her down gently on her bed, taking care not to jolt her limbs.

'I could feel your ribs Ragini through that hospital gown', he grumbled, his eyes watering.

'Come over here' Ragini called him, her voice now gentle and soothing. As he scooted down beside her, very carefully, she looked at him. After a while, she said
' I am getting better, Nachiket. I don't want you to worry, I don't want to see those marks on your forehead again. I love you so much Nachiket, and I absolutely hate it when you have to worry about me.'

He pecked her forehead lightly as he urged her to sleep. He lay there at the edge for some time and kept on staring at her face, all worried. And then finally he was asleep.

The days passed quickly and uneventfully as Ragini's healing process continued and her family rallied around her.
And then finally that day came when Dr Dwivedi gave permission to Ragini to go home. The cast on her left hand was off, while the plaster on her right leg remained. Dr Dwivedi cautioned Ragini not to force herself to use her right hand or lift heavy objects. He also advised her to use crutches for the next few days, until the plaster on her leg came off.

Though Ragini was upset that she had not healed totally, yet she was overjoyed to return home. Her happiness turned into joy as she was welcomed back by everybody. The kids had decorated the hall with flowers, and prepared Ragini's favourite food.

She sat overwhelmed as the children fussed around her, each trying to get her attention. And finally it was night. Nachiket solemnly refused Ragini staying downstairs with the children; he didn't want her to get hurt in any way. And by looking at her, he knew that she was tired, though the Mother in her would never stop the kids from fussing around.

He helped her get back on her wheelchair and soon they were in their apartment.

'You look tired' he said gently, as he tucked a lock of her hair behind her ear. Ragini caught his hand in hers and kissed him.

'You need to sleep Ragini' he continued. 'Let me get your medicines.'

A while later, he tucked her into the bed, after having helped her get ready for the bed. He joined her, careful not to jostle her leg. He looked at her in concern, her face was still pinched and he knew that she was still hurting, though she was much better than before.

He kissed her on her lips and she mumbled 'Good Night'.

'Good Night Ragini' he said with a smile, as he turned the lights off.

He was finally happy, she was finally back to where she belonged, in his arms.

When Nachiket woke up the next morning, the light was already on. He hastily sat up on the bed and saw Ragini reading the newspaper.
"Tum kab uthi? Theek ho na? Mujhe kyu nahi uthaya?" he rambled on in one breathe.

"Main theek hu. Ek ghanta pehle uthi. Aur tumhe uthane ki koshish ki par tum uthe nahi," replied Ragini.

Nachiket's face fell. How could he not get up? Ragini noticed the same. "Ab don't make this face baba. I called you just once. Tum bahut thake hue the raat ko. And when you didn't move, mera uthane ka man nahi kia. Aur acha hi hua tum nahi uthe. You needed your sleep," said Ragini, placing her hand on top of his. Nachiket nodded with a smile.

The next moment, Sunny Tai entered the room with tea. She kept the tray on the bed in front of Ragini. She then asked Nachiket if she should bring his tea too, to which he said yes.

After Sunyn tai left the room, he asked Ragini, "Tum itni jaldi uthi kyu? Kahin dard ho raha h?"

"Raat ko sote waqt kuch dard tha, but the medicine kept me asleep. Dard nahi h abhi," she continued, "Aur jab subh aankh khuli to fir neend nahi aai. I have been doing nothing but sleep for the past so many days, neend bhi kaise aaegi!" she finished, mildly irritated.

"Thoda bahut dard to hoga hi. Let me know if it increases," said Nachiket and put his pillow also behind Ragini so that she could rest her back against the bed's headboard.

"Tumhari chai aa jaegi. Fresh ho aao," said Ragini and Nachiket went to the bathroom.

Ragini was bored. It was a lazy afternoon and she stared out of the window listlessly, the white glaze of the afternoon heat already felt unbearable. She longed for the cool glades and a visit to the mountains, the medicines having messed up her system. She could hear her Mother pottering around the kitchen, cleaning up things. The house was otherwise eerily quiet.
She missed Nachiket. He had been a great strength to her in these trying days, and nights and had been there with her throughout. She teared up as she realised for the umpteenth time how her life had been incomplete without him. All these years.

He had been mightily strung up all these days and had relaxed only yesterday when Dr Dwivedi gave her a near clean chit. The plaster on her right leg had finally come off though the Dr had advised Ragini to continue using the crutches for some more time, until she was fully confident.

Ragini thanked God that she had gotten away with few complications due to the accident, she knew how fatal it could have been. The police were still trying to locate the vehicle, the CCTV camera at that intersection had not been functioning. She knew how Ranbir made visits to the Police Station everyday to find out about the culprit. And always returned to her dejected.

The sound of the doorbell broke the silence in the apartment. Ragini could hear her Mother open the door and then there was all silence. She reached out for her crutches to go to the living area, when the door to her bedroom opened and Nachiket hopped in.

He had a big bouquet of white lilies in his hand. he came over to her side of the bed and sat down beside her.

Ragini had returned from the hospital a few days ago. She had been recovering slowly and steadily ever since then. The swelling had reduced, her wounds had healed, and she was walking without the crutches now, taking small and slow steps. She still couldn't put a lot of pressure on her left leg. But she was happy with every little new improvement she made daily.

Nachiket started going to the hospital only for the first half of the day. Ragini didn't mind actually. Whenever he was home, they would practice her walking. And she wanted to get back to her routine as soon as possible.

It was evening and Ragini decided to bake a cake. It had been too long! She asked Sunny Tai to check if they had all the ingredients at home. A few things were missing and Sunny Tai went to the market to buy.

Nachiket offered to help and Ragini started instructing. He said 'No' to kneading the dough. For other elements of the cake, the ingredients were missing. So, they couldn't get started on cake. Nachiket suggested drinks, to which Ragink said No.

'I'll make a non-alcoholic one for you. Virgin Mojito' said he, and took out lemons and mint from the fridge.

'Vo to sirf nimbu-paani hoga' complained Ragini.

'Just wait. You're gonna love it!' assured he.

And he was right. Ragini's drink was good. It wasn't just lemon water. He didn't tell her how he made it, despite Ragini's persistent questions. Fortunately for him, Sunny Tai returned and they started baking the cake.

Nachiket, stop eating the ganache! I need that to coat the cake - she swatted his arm as he scooped another small bit of it from the vessel as she put the mixture in the oven..
As she finished, he looked at her and held her gingery by the waist as his other hand dusted off the flour from her face and played with her hair for a while.. she smiled and then blushed. His dimples deepened and he propped up her face with his chin.. I didn't know you still did that, he said referring to her blush.. she hid her face in his chest and purred.. he laughed heartily and pulled her closer..
