He gently placed the wrap around her shoulder, as she ecstatically looked up at the night sky, nursing her left hand in her right. Nachiket looked at her and grinned - that drew his attention
'Why are you laughing now?' she asked, her eyebrows arching quizzically.
He laughed out aloud and he said
'You look like a kid, Ragini.'
He became serious in an instant though -
'I don't like it much. You hardly weighed anything when I picked you up some time back. Not that you weighed much earlier'
He frowned.
'Nachiket, relax!' she said.
'I know what you are talking about . I am sure Maa and Sunny Tai will stuff me once I am home, and I will be waddling around like a fat duck!'
He grinned as he visualised her waddling around, earning a swat from her.
'Ouch!' he shrieked. 'It hurts.'
They looked at each other for a while and then burst out laughing.
'BTW Ragini, you used to waddle around like a duck when you were pregnant. You were so cute' He quipped
Ragini shook her head, he would always have the last word. And she loved him so much for the same.
It was a beautiful night - clean and clear. She could see thousands of stars up above in the sky, they were like a cluster of diamonds which somebody had scattered all across. The twinkle of the stars caught her eyes and smile and he stared at her mesmerised.
Later, he wheeled her back to her room and then placed her down gently on her bed, taking care not to jolt her limbs.
'I could feel your ribs Ragini through that hospital gown', he grumbled, his eyes watering.
'Come over here' Ragini called him, her voice now gentle and soothing. As he scooted down beside her, very carefully, she looked at him. After a while, she said
' I am getting better, Nachiket. I don't want you to worry, I don't want to see those marks on your forehead again. I love you so much Nachiket, and I absolutely hate it when you have to worry about me.'
He pecked her forehead lightly as he urged her to sleep. He lay there at the edge for some time and kept on staring at her face, all worried. And then finally he was asleep.
