Part 2

Nachiket entered the apartment using the spare keys that Ragini had shared with him, once they were married. His mouth opened and shut of their own accord once he looked towards the balcony.

She was a vision in front of him. In crimson red. Of course, she hadn't seen him. Her entire concentration was on the moon revealing itself on the night sky.

He closed the door quietly behind him and moved forward. Towards her. Clad in a bright red and deep cream brocaded silk, her hands filled with red bangles, she looked like a quintessential bride. Nachiket didn't need to see her face to know she would look beautiful. He knew instinctively. She was ethereal.

She turned inside, slowly, towards the hall, her gaze searching for his photo on the wall.

Nachiket's heart twisted inside its own cage as he saw the water container by the thaali. He knew she was not expecting him to return to break her fast, but the dichotomy of the situation got to him. That one instance and he knew how lonely she was without him.

And he had the means to fill up her world, once again. Their world.

He started walking towards her, until he was standing between the sieve and his photo on the wall.

A gamut of emotions played across her face, as his sudden appearance jolted her to the reality. He was indeed standing there, right in front of her. All she had to do was extend her hand and touch him.

Instead, she concentrated on his handsome yet weary face through the sieve as her face broke into a beatific smile. She next picked up the puja thaali and completed the rituals, finally bending down to touch his feet. Her heart was on a happy trip, though her mind still wanted to know why he was back.

The look in his eyes was however enough to answer a part of her question. He cared.

Another wave of nausea hit Ragini as she tottered, her arms blindly trying to find him. He was quick to hold her and pull her into his arms. A moment later, he was busy ensuring that she drank some water, so as to break her fast. Even before she realised and could open her eyes, he had graciously lifted her up and carried her inside their room. Her closed eyes bothered him, as her head sagged against his shoulder, while still encased in his warmth and support.

Gently placing her down on the bed, he sat down in front of her, his hand resting lightly on her knee.

Really, your words are like a balm.. for all those things and emotions we never got to see, were never even hinted at.. and for everything we deserved!
