He released her hands and brought his arms away from his chest, palms facing forward, surrendering to her loving touch. But she had pulled her hands in towards herself, nervously playing with her fingertips in an effort to occupy her mind with something else, anything other than him.

The lack of motion from him startled her and she looked up at him. He raised an eyebrow at her, as if to ask why she stopped. He gestured to his shirt with his eyes and a smile crept onto his face as her eyes lowered to his shirt and her cheeks flushed once more as she continued unbuttoning his buttons, her delicate fingers moving methodically from the first to the last, never missing a beat.

For they both knew that years ago, he would button his shirt the wrong way, just to have her swoop in and button his shirt correctly for him. Maybe her hands couldn't help but span the muscles on his expansive chest when she unbuttoned the shirt...and maybe his arm would find its way around her waist, pulling her closer as he stole a kiss from her soft lips, the shade of lipstick she was wearing being indistinguishable from the color of her cheeks...
