As he looked at her getting ready for the function, he knew how much he had missed her all these years. He remembered how in those lonely long years he had longed for a sight of her by the mirror slowly wearing her jewelry and adjusting her saree just before going for a function. He remembered how he would often stand looking at her so lost that many a time they would end up reaching the function late with Ragini in a temper because she had to change her saree at least twice. His heart fluttered a little as he thought of the reason she had to change her saree and he only wished that he could make her do it again. But, times had changed and they were no longer the simple always smiling lovers as they once were. He remembered how frustrated she had been this morning when he had teased her about her snoring. She didn't know of his habit of drinking so heavily that the nights without her would seem short. Neither did she know that for the past two days, he had completely forgotten his habit. If only she could read between the lines. Perhaps, a lonely loveless life was his destiny. He gave a defeated sigh and went to wear the Kurta, he was sure she had picked for him.

She saw him gazing at her in the mirror and felt her throat go dry. His hungry look sent shivers down her spine. Oh, how much she had missed him wanting her. She still remembered the feel of his arms around her. She didn't know if he really wanted her now or not, nor did she know if he knew what was going on in her mind right now. All she knew was that the pull she felt towards him had not decreased in those lonely years she lived without him. Instead to her surprise, she found that it had only grown stronger and she felt herself wishing for him to just break the barriers and come near her. Maybe, just maybe then she could let herself go and tell him how much she wanted him. She sighed as she saw him look away with a defeated look on his face. If only he could see beyond her stern face. If only, he could have a little faith in their love. Perhaps, they were not meant to be.

She watched him wear the Kurta without opening the buttons as he usually did. She had purposely left the buttons closed to see if he had changed during those days without her. She felt herself feeling satisfied as she rushed to help him with a big smile. She slowly undid the buttons and saw him coming out relief written all over his face. At that moment, she knew that her love for him had not changed and perhaps it never will. How could it ever change, if it didn't when he left her all alone? Circumstances and times may have changed but her love for him was still so strong that it alarmed her. As he whispered a thank you, she felt her heart constrict. When had they become so formal? Didn't he know that she was just doing was her duty as a lover? She looked at him longingly hoping that he would understand that she did not want his thank you but wanted something more. But, he busied himself in adjusting the buttons. Feeling a little disheartened, yet with a brave smile on her face, she went to pin her saree.

He felt her moving away and felt sorry for her. He knew she was disappointed. How could he not? He always had known her deepest thoughts. He had wanted to tell her more than that stupid thank you he had mumbled, but how could he give her hope when he himself could not see any hope for their future. He looked up only to see her struggling to pin her saree. He smiled. She never would change. He slowly went near her and grabbed the pin from her hands. He felt her shiver at his touch and all he wanted right now was to grab her in his arms and unpin the entire saree. But, he knew that this was not the right time for that. Not leaving her gaze, he slowly pinned the saree to her blouse. As he looked into the mirror, he found that she could still fit perfectly in his arms. Nothing had changed and he found himself feeling very satisfied. He had never wanted her to change. Not then, not now and not ever.
