SS : A Birthday Surprise Part 2 UPDATED pg 4

Hi all! Here is a short story on Nachiket and Ragini. I had written this long back! The title suggests a lot, so enjoy! 😃

Nachiket woke up that morning to see his wife sitting in front of the mirror, getting ready for her day. He stumbled out of bed and made his way towards her, wrapping his hands around her waist and hugging her from the back.

"Nachiket. What are you doing?" she questioned, shrugging his hands away and continuing to put on her earrings.

"Romancing with my wife on this special day" he replied cheekily, as he took the tiny box with sindoor and filled her maang.

"Special day? What special day?" she asked, a confused and puzzled look on her face.

"Today's just a Sunday, and for your information Mr. Nachiket Khanna, Sundays happen every week. There's nothing that special about them. Anyways, hurry up and get ready, I have so much work to do today. "

Ragini got up, pushing him away from her, and went towards Nishi's room, where that angel was sleeping peacefully.

Meanwhile, back in their room, Nachiket just stood, confused.

"Did my wife just forget my birthday? She thought that today was just a Sunday? Is she out of her mind? Maybe she'll remember when everyone else wishes me" he thought to himself as he made his way into the bathroom to get ready.

Thirty minutes later, Nachiket came downstairs only to find everyone sitting at the dining table already, including Pam and Ranbir, each busy in their own breakfast. Ragini and Nishi were sitting at the end, next to each other. Servant was serving the Mother-Daughter duo.


"Good morning everyone!" exclaimed Nachiket, as he awaited everyone wishing him on his birthday. However, to his shock, everyone merely replied

"Good morning Nachiket [/paapa]." Not even one person sitting at that entire table acknowledged his birthday and he was frustrated.

He just sat down at the table, disappointed, and not noticing the smirks everyone else gave each other. Once he came and sat down, he addressed the entire table.

"So everyone, because today's such a special day, let's all go out, have a picnic and spend some time together."

Pam responded first, "Ha. Sunday is such a special day na, only once a week. But sorry beta, i am not feeling well, and I don't want to go out, so I'll stay at home. You all enjoy."

Before Nachiket could respond though, Ranbir stepped in, "Sorry Paapa. Aaj nahi. Some other time, kyun? Aaj mujhe ek friend ke saath kuch shopping karne jana he," he said, putting an arm around Nishi's shoulder. And the little kid nodded for what her bhaiyya has just said.




Nachiket sighed, realizing that everyone forgot his birthday, and finally turned to Ragini, "So Madam. What's your excuse for not spending time with me?"

Ragini gave him an apologetic look as she said, "Who will take care of the house when everyone else is so busy? I have so much to do today. Sorry Nachiket, maybe some other time."

Nachiket was exhausted at hearing all these excuses and got up from the table, walking towards Nishi "At least I know there will be my Jaan who will have time for me. Right?" Planting a kiss on her head, he began to walk towards the living room when Ragini stopped him. "Woh Nachiket, aaj main to Nishi ko Karan aur Dimpy ke ghar mein drop kardungi. Dimpy was saying how long it's been since the two have spent some time with Nishi."

By then, Nachiket was angry, angry at everyone for having forgotten his birthday, and more angry at Ragini for not letting him spend time with his apple of eyes, his Jaan. He silently, went upstairs to grab his laptop and began to leave the house.

"Nachiket, where are you going?" called out Pam, as she saw him leaving. "You didn't even have breakfast yet."

"Han Pam. I just remembered I have this important meeting to prepare for. I won't be home till about 7 o'clock" he responded, not even bothering to turn back to say bye to anyone.

Once the family had heard his car leave, everyone burst out laughing.

Part 2:

"Han Pam. I just remembered I have this important client meeting to prepare for. I won't be home till about 7 o'clock" he responded, not even bothering to turn back to say bye to anyone.

Once the family had heard his car leave, everyone burst out laughing.

6 PM

Nachiket was sitting in his cabin, his laptop and files surrounding him, spread out all over his desk but he wasn't looking at any of them. Rather, he was staring into space, thinking about how to avoid going home and avoid seeing his own family forget his birthday. He sat there, watching the wall clock tick away, waiting for someone, anyone to wish him on his special day. Even when he saw Karan earlier that day, he didn't wish him. It means even Dimpy forgot that what is today.

"How could everyone forget today? Humph. I'm not going to talk to them."

However, suddenly, his cell phone rang and Nachiket glanced over to check who it was. Seeing that it was Ragini, he picked up the phone, a grumpy look on his face. "Yeah Ragini. What do you want?" he questioned, rather than giving one of his romantic phone call speeches.

All he heard though was Ragini sobbing into the phone, "Nachiket... Nachiket Nishi fell down and...she has got wounds and I'm so worried. Oh Nachiket. What if something happens to her?"

At that point, Nachiket forgot all about his birthday and thought only of Ragini. She was crying for such a little thing? "Ragini. She just fell. She's a kid and such things happen. Why are you crying?"

"Nachiket!" she continued crying into the phone. Suddenly though, he heard a loud thud and he panicked. The next voice he heard was that Pam, screaming "Ragini has fainted. Go call the doctor!"

Hearing this, Nachiket quickly shut off his phone, ran out of the cabin towards his car.

"Oh no! Ragini. Why do you stress yourself over such little matters?" he thought to himself as he got into his car. However, it would take him over thirty minutes to even reach home.

Thirty Minutes Later...

Nachiket stopped his car outside of the house only to see that most of the house was were dimly lit. He rushed towards the door, wondering if Ragini's health had taken a turn for the worse. The closer he got to opening the door, the quicker his heart beat, as if it knew that something was going to happen.

"Surprise! Happy Birthday!" screamed everyone in his family, starting from Dimpy and Karan to his little Nishi and Ranbir as all of them ran towards him. He was shocked, and most definitely surprised as he stared at everyone with an awestricken face. As Ragini came towards him behind Nishi, he suddenly remember why he had been so frantic to get home.

''Ragini. Are you ok? and how about Nishi? Is she fine?" he questioned, concern lining his voice as he spoke.

She kissed him lightly on his cheeks before she cupped his face in her hands, and whispered

"Happy Birthday Nachiket. And Han, yes. We both are fine." Flashing a bright smile on her face, she took him by his hands and led him to the other people over there, taking their wishes on this special day - haan, he realized that no one had forgotten HIS special day.

Everyone then came up to him to wish him.

"Happy birthday Nachiket!!!!!!" Dimpy screamed and gave him a hug.

He was surrounded by his family members, wishing him for his birthday..Pam, Karan, Dimpy and the kids. He was looking all over the decorated house.

"Thankyou!!" contented Nachiket had tears in his eyes and he gave a cosy hug to everybody.

As he was looking towards all his family members he realized that Ragini had disappeared. Seeing towards Nishi and Ranbir, he asked them "Do you guys know where Mamma went?"

"Kitchen Paapa... " said Nishi as she held out her arms, wanting to be carried by her father.

"Cake Cake!" exclaimed Nishi when he heard the word kitchen.

Ranbir glared at her Nishi, " Its a Surprise" He said as he tried to put his hands on his Paapa's ears, so he wouldn't hear what they were talking about.

"Haha Jaan. Let's go to Mamma in the kitchen with the cake. Want to come with us Ranbir?" he asked him as he lifted his Nishi up in his hands.

And so the trio set off to the kitchen, looking for Ragini. He saw Ragini standing by the kitchen counter, intensely concentrating on her cake decorating. She was mumbling to herself.

"Oh. Why didn't I finish this earlier? Now Nachiket will have to wait for his own cake."

Hearing the word cake though, both of her children screamed "Mamma Cake!" She quickly turned around towards her favorite people in the world all looking at her cutely. "What are you guys doing here?" she asked. When they repeated that they wanted cake, she took Nishi from his father's hands placed her on the kitchen counter and gave each of them some of the cake batter that was left. Nishi and Ranbir ran out as they got what they wanted.

And then she turned back to continue decorating Nachiket's birthday cake. Ragini suddenly felt two hands slip onto her waist, pulling her backwards until she met a solid rock wall, her husband's abs. "So Madam. What have you been doing all day? Taking care of Pam, Nishi and the house?" he whispered into her ear, a small smirk playing on his face.

"Nachikettt" she answered, still not daring to look into her husband's eyes, knowing she would never get any work done if she did.

"Haan Ragini. Tell me. I know you wanted to surprise me and all, but still, lying to your husband? Telling me that Nishi was hurt? Do you realize how scared I was and when I heard that you fainted. Lying about your health and giving me a heart attack is not the best way to surprise me, dear" he stated, feigning anger.

"So you didn't like the surprise then? We couldn't think of anything else other than telling you that Nishi was hurt to get you home quickly. Sorry Nachiket" she said, holding her ears.

"Hmm. I can forgive you this time, but this won't go without some sort of punishment tonight" he said, a naughty playfulness in his eyes.

She looked at him confused for a whole two seconds, before realization dawned upon her as to what her husband was referring to.

''Nachiket. Nooo. Don't even think about it" she smiled shyly as she turned around swiftly and attempted to push her husband out of the kitchen. But he wouldn't budge.

"We will see" replied Nachiket as he slightly kissed her on her cheeks and ran away from there leaving his wife surprised by his act.
