The popular American sitcom will be remade for the Indian viewers

One of America's most beloved sitcoms may soon have a desi version as Star Plus is bringing Everybody Loves Raymond to India in a Hindi avatar.

While the project is currently being kept under wraps the pilot has already been shot and casting is now on. Some of television's topnotch names have already been signed on for the adaptation.

Says a source connected to the project, "Ronit Roy is likely to play the title role while Vindoo Dara Singh has been signed to play Raymond's brother." Rajit Kapoor, who has directed Aankhon Dekhi, has been roped in to helm the show.

"The remake of the serial will be original, yet attached to the American series. Everybody Loves Raymond aired in the US for a good nine years. It has a very strong recall value for fans of the original. However Star Plus wants to create a whole new fan base among the non-metropolitan viewership for the Raymond saga."

About Everybody Loves Raymond: The Barones are a close knit family, if you ask us. Meddling mum and dad stay across the road as does resentful elder brother-and a cop-Robert and they're always coming over to Raymond's. He's the baby of the family and has never quite grown out of leaving the nest'. Thrown into the mix is Ray's wife Debra who has to deal with his childishness and the Barones' interferences.
