I loved the promo. But I gotta ask, is this ASR or Barun in ASR's attire? ASR doing poetry is kinda cheesy to watch but chaltha hai! 😉

Also, of all the looks of ASR in IPKKND I loved the first Diwali look with sharp hair cut, no stuble much than any other look. Ooh! Also the iconic first episode Sheesh Mahal deal look. These were killer looks and to me that was the true ASR look! So, yeah watching ASR with stuble is so not him! But Barun brings the charm anyway! 😳

I got the glimpse of the first episode, not completely but the the scene where ASR buys Sheesh Mahal and the scene with Anjali on the stage (I'm actually kinda saving these initial episodes gems for some time later!).
I must say there is so much difference in the voice of Barun and Daljeet in the pilot episode. Have you observed that Anjali was using "mein instead of "hum on the stage. I kinda feel the initial inception of the show and the later execution has a lot of changes.

About ASR: Right in the initial shot of him after getting out of the chopper looking at the Sheesh Mahal, reminiscing the past, Barun made brilliant job in showing the pain of ASR in his eyes without any action or words. That initial shot of pain in his eyes looking at the deceitful mahal itself was a great work by the makers and the actor.
Also, since I didn't madly watch the first 20 odd episodes like, I wanted to ask did they have a backstory for ASR's ring? ASR is a simple man with accessories, he doesn't sport auspicious rings like Anjali or Akash but has only one ring, which is the actor's wedding ring (which I can understand, Barun was newly married, hardly 6 months into marriage when the shoot started!). I just wanted to know if they had any backstory to it. I must say it was a bit distracting to see an unmarried ASR with a wedding ring!

About Shyam: I never saw the introduction of Shyam in the show, all I read was that he saved Khushi from goons trying to harass her, but never really witnessed the actual scene. Yesterday I watched this VM made by a user named "jalebi girl of Arnav, Khushi & Shyam with Padmavati background music (you should watch it if you haven't already, it's that good). This VM had this intro scene of Shyam. I must say that Shyam got a heroic introduction, like someone who fights for good or something like that. I feel that initially when the show was incepted may be it was around this actual question of "Iss Pyaar Ko Kay Naam Doon? showing the love of both Arnav and Shyam for Khushi on parallel.
To elaborate on this point further, I feel the show IS about Didi Ki Sautan and two types of love for a same girl. One which is full of pure passion and hatred from Arnav's side and the other which is full of admiration for beauty from Shyam's side. I believe Shyam is actually smitten by Khushi's beauty and just want to make her his by hook or crook. In the episode where ASR sends a typewriter for Khushi to work on, did you see that Shyam was just purely smitten by her like a teenage lover boy rather than being lustful about her. What I felt is that he just didn't think it was crime to be married to love another person, and always believed that he was in "sacha pyaar with Khushi. When Khushi hit the chords in the hearts of both these boys, each of the boys have a partner, Shyam was married but ASR also had a girlfriend, it was not like ASR was single when Khushi dropped into his arms in the pilot. Sure he is not emotionally committed with La, but we can't ignore the fact he did have a girlfriend at that time. Instead of dancing on this fine line of good and bad grey issue, that is questioning what Love is, they took an easier route of making Shyam the villain in the story for the TV audience, is what I feel.

Here are my thoughts on this crucial track of the series:

He wants her to take his hand, trust him to take her out of the circle of diyas and wants her to come with him.

She on the other hand is completely unaware of these new thoughts and new feelings with Arnav Singh Raizada of all people, the man who has repeatedly told her about her ''aukat'', about her classlessness but yet can't keep away from her. She just took a leap of faith and took his hand. very nice. 😃 yeah, leap of faith.

Both are gonna take steps together to something new, something which both haven't felt before. He will hold her if she stumbles and will be there for. nice take.

"Chamkili..." La comes. Oohh! did he just get angry that she left his hand?

La asks why she didn't take the anklets Anjali offered, and she replies that those "payals are her mother's nishani and she can't take these off her legs". The moment she tells about her "monther's nishani" he is alerted, he remembers he has it.

He looks at the payal in his hand, remembering how he got it, and feeling that he should return it back as he know how precious "amma ki nishani" could be to her. (On a side note, does Anjali not see the payal he holds in his hand when she comes calling him? 😲 Sometimes, Anjali purely amazes me with here obliviousness) while anjali was doing what the writer had written and they didn't want her to see the payal so did this very serialish thing, but yes, anjali had that being oblivious to the obvious aspect in her, even though she could be very astute about some things. which is why perhaps later, despite seeing shyam with khushi so many times during the kidnap track, she refused to believe shyam could have done anything wrong. i know they were changing the story rapidly and often those days, but one had seen anajali missing things before so it sort of hung together and seemed like a trait of hers.

Anyways, now that he is sure he wants to give her back the payal, Nani drops a bomb on him that she has accepted Lavanya and does not have any qualms about their marriage.

He is surely not ready for this acceptance, at least not now when he is unsure of what his heart is telling him to do.

His eyes search for her, but his thoughts hesitate when they find her. beautiful thoughts here. Something holding him back to go and have a straight talk with her. He was never short of words or insults with her, because every time they had anger in them, but today, it is something different that he is feeling for her. Something that is making him go crazy. He finally wants to cut the chase and talk to her, turns back determined and she is not there.

He goes to where she is, calls out her name to talk to her, making her get up in shock in a second and in the process spraining her ankle.

He holds her, makes her sit on the chair, and she is taken aback by his coming down on his knees to help her, something he has never done before to her. She takes her leg back hesitating and he does not like it, almost expressing that he has a right to attend to her pain.

Did he just like the way she moaned in pain? Something he found extremely appealing? He is sure of nothing, but continues with the moment. you're making me want to watch the scene. He fixes her ankle and holds on to her ankle not letting her go, not till he is done. Slowly bringing out the payal he has been holding to, his eyes requesting whether he could put it on? He goes ahead without waiting for her response and gets up after done feeling shy and cheesy about what he has just done.

She on the other hand is utterly dumbstruck with what just happened. Did a boy just put her leg on his knee to put an anklet? Something sweet that no boy has ever done to her before, making fer feel something strange, making her feel that she is special, that she is being admired and loved.

He doesn't want anymore awkwardness and wants to go away, but this girl in red saree today is not letting him go. He walks up to her helplessly as though she is pulling him towards her. yes, today there was no way out. she had the power, and she called him, even though she had no idea of it. what a beautiful moment. She on the other hand doesn't understand what is pulling him towards her and starts going backwards pulling him with her. She hits the wall and there is nowhere to go from there. He can't help but touch her face, not letting her go anywhere else, and just wants to hold her with him and express his desire for her today.

And there goes the phone call bringing both of them to reality. Realization dawning on both of them, he leaves, unable to face anymore awkwardness (or guilt maybe? 😕 as he has a live-in girlfriend!). this issue of lavanya, who was his girlfriend, living with him, and him losing control to this extent, it would bother him i think... and he would finally give voice to that feeling much later and break up with her. but all through this phase, asr was not acting in the way we believe "good" men should, but that was the power of this attraction, khushi too was feeling things she never had... she wanted that kiss and it didn't matter to her at that moment that he was la's boyfriend. she otherwise did care about that fact, she cared about lavanya too... khushi's reaction too was not that of a "good" girl, indian television rarely has portrayed an attraction with such honesty or nuance.

She wants answers, answers only from him, only him to make her understand whatever just happened.

But can he give any? Does he have any? Does he know for himself what just happened why it happened? No he doesn't. He feels defeated for not knowing any answers and goes out to hold a hand that could bring back some sense of control in his life, La's hand. He announces his engagement looking in to her eyes as though punishing her for bringing him out of his shackles making him loose his control, and re-assuring himself that he could bring back his thoughts under his control. yeah, he ran to "safety". poor arnav singh raizada. mean arnav singh raizada.

She feels dejected with the announcement. Dejected that she did not have any answers. Dejected that the boy who had just made her feel special is somebody else's. Dejected that she does not get what she wanted, quickly runs away unable to to bear anymore heartbreak only to be stopped by her friend.

La immediately recognizes that her friend is upset and wants to know whether she is happy with the announcement and also thanking for her help.

Feeling the pang of pain in her heart she heartily wishes her happiness that La got herself "jo chaha, jisse chaha" , something she didn't get.

She keeps the pain inside and puts up a fake smile wishing everyone, completely amusing him. She gets stuck when she reaches him. His Di tells him that she made sugar free sweets specially for him, and that is when she can't take it anymore. She made something special for someone she thought was special to her only to be dejected by the same someone special that she is nothing.

She runs away with his eyes feeling her pain but his thoughts stopping him to go behind her.

On the road, lost in the reminiscence of what just happened, she is brought back into the present by a suddenly stopped car behind her.

He needs to get some clarifications, and wants some answers from her too. tried very hard to run away, but has to run to her after all. yes, answers. neither had any clear answers for that crazy moment by the pool. uff gorgeous confusion and ache.

Not wanting him to notice what she is feeling, she puts on the fake smile, sanaya was hearbreaking in these scenes. so good. congratulates him, and talks about the reality of the current situation. Reality that he is going to be engaged to her friend for which she has been working hard all these days.

But he doesn't want any of these reality, but only wants to know what she is feeling. When she said that La and him would make a great pair, he couldn't take it anymore and asks her to step out of the car.

He sees her struggling with her pallu and her feelings while getting out of the car, but decides not to pursue anything further as she is adamant to admit anything just like him.

Her purse under his leg gave him the chance to go back to her, and also the idea of how to handle this situation and end it.

He declares that the payal he was holding on to till date and his unconscious desire for her today does not mean anything and she does not have any importance in his life. he was brutal. he meant to shatter her, he succeeded. he didn't realise he'd shatter himself too. these two actors created an emotion that echoes in me even if i read a couple of lines about those scenes now... i feel the pain, har baar. asr is doing itni koshish to not let her affect him, and every koshish kills me a little more.

She, who was until now feeling dejected, gets the confirmation from the man himself from whom she wants answers.

She knew the reality but couldn't handle the heartbreak that just happened. She is brought into the reality that she is not someone special after all.

All dejected and helpless before her adopted family, she finally agrees to her engagement.

Gah, I think it's time for the nth watch! This thing will never become stale, these two characters and the actors who played them
