I think Sashi is very fond of Arnav seeing his commitment towards relations and responsibilities and skills in business and Arnav's father is his friend ...and he saw Arnav as a suitable son in law ... like every father who has daughters...becaause Lavanya is elder daughter, he asked Arnav's hand for La and as Arnav respects relatioins he saw Khushi just as a friend and when he got to know Khushi's feelings he maintained distance from her...

He told her she is going to be his better half and he will do anything and everything in his might to keep her happy always.

Seeing happy and keeping happy is a state of mind.

And the carefree giggles that had once filled his being...

The peals of laughter, chuckling with joy and the happiness of living without abandonment cocooned his forlorn being...{Hard to comprehend that these words were said (or reminisced the memories) without love but only out of duty or any such thing}

Definitely not duty bound, but it can be affection and not love.

Exhibit number 5:

Your beloved Lavanya - from Khushi

I chose to be with her - from Arnav

In the present time when Arnav is arguing with Khushi, he said "this is not about her and her actions won't make your misdeeds qualify as achievements"

With this I rest my case..

A girl he is set to marry and was engaged to, cannot just be a mere responsibility. But affections vary. And with this, I rest my case.
