CHAPTER 28

Khushi woke up early the next day.It was when she fully woke up that she realized she was in Arnav's room.She sat upright and looked at him frantically.She couldn't see his face as she was on the floor.She got up and tiptoed to him.He was sleeping and for a moment she forgot her vow and wanted to kiss him.He was looking much younger, handsomeand above all very masculine.She stood looking at him for a few seconds,then folded her bedsheet and kept it along with the air pillow in the adjoining room and went to take bath.He was still sleeping when she came back to the room.She swiftly changed into a sea green shiffon saree with a designer blouse and again tiptoed to open the door of the bedroom.The noise awkened Arnav and when he opened his eyes and looked around all he could see was Khushi moving out of the room.He called her but she hurried to downstairs in search of Payal and others.There was no sign of Payal,Anjali and Nani.Some relatives who stayed back for the reception were also not seen anywhere.She went to the kitchen to see whether anyone was there and to her relief found the servants in a hurry preparing breakfast.She then went to the poojaroom and lighted the lamp,took sindoor kept in front of the diety and as she was going to put it on her forehead ,memories flashed through her mind.

The truth that she was Mrs.Raizada gave her a pleasant feeling but felt depressed as she recalled the way it happened.

She went to the garden,plucked fresh flowers and brought it to the living room.As she was decorating the flower vases kept there she heard his voice.:Khushi,come here.I was calling you.

Khushi looked at him .She understood from his expression that he admired her in that attire.She asked:What do you want?

Arnav:I want to talk

Khushi:Regarding?

Before Arnav could respond Nani came to the hall.He at once went back to his room.Nani smiled at her and said:beti,you woke up early?

Khushi:I usually do Naniji.

After a few seconds payal joined them followed by Anjali,Sooraj and Aakash.The relatives also joined them one by one.

Anjali:where is chote?

Khushi;I..I..think..he is taking bath.

Anjali:We'll have breakfast once he comes.Come on Khushi and Payal,let us see what is there special?

As Arnav didn't appear after half an hour Anjali asked Khushi to bring him to the dining room.Khushi went reluctantly and when she reached their room ,he was not there.she searched in the adjoining rooms and still she couldn't find him.she was worried and didn't know what to do.As she went down to the hall,she saw him sitting in the living room talking to his relatives.He looked at her questioningly and with a smirk.She realized that he was fooling her.Feeling annoyed she sat near him for breakfast.He intentionally brushed his hands with her in the pretext of taking things.Colour rose to her cheeks as he whispered in her ear:You are looking beautiful.Anjali, sitting next to her was talking to Sooraj,Nani to one of Arnav's relatives,Payal with adoring eyes to Aakash.She was totally embarrassed and could not eat much.He again did the same:Khushi,are you ok?Khushi couldn't take it anymore as his touch and approach were evoking uncontrollable sensation in her.His masculine smell was enough to kill her.

She looked at Payal:She wondered at the sudden change in her sister.She was sitting glued to Aakash and they were sharing some jokes and enjoying.Nani,sitting at the head of the table suddenly asked:Khushi,beti,are you ok?Why are you not eating anything?Arnav answered:Eh...nani..she didn't sleep yesterday night.That is why...There was a sudden silence for a moment and then the hall shuddered with the thunderous laugh by the group present there.Khushi who was already feeling embarrassed wished to be invisible at that moment.She glanced at him and saw him eating cooly with a smirk on his face.She was thinking of a way to escape as she saw meaningful glances at her from all.She wanted to strangle him for making her a laughing stock.At last Sandeep spoke which relieved Khushi:We have to reach Delhi.So get ready fast after the breakfast.Our guests have started arriving there for tomorrow's reception .Tonight there is photoshoot at our new resort.

Anjali:Can we postpone it to next week?i'm very tired.

Arnav:no way di,tonight itself.I'm not free in the next week.

Anjali yawned and said:Ok..Khushi and Payal,let us have a check on our new dresses that arrived yesterday..come on.

Khushi was relieved to escape from there.

After one hour everyone got ready to leave to Delhi. .Aakash,Payal and Shashi in one car,Anjali,Sandeep and Raj in the second one and so on.Nani was sitting in the third one and while Khushi was trying to sit near her along with her mother,Arnav suddenly asked Nani to sit in the front.When she was comfortably seated,he shut the door and got in near Khushi in the back seat.It was so unexpected .Khushi was sitting in the centre.They didn't talk.Khushi's body was pressed against him and both were so aware of each other's heartbeats.Soon Nani and Khushi's mother fell asleep.Arnav's right hand rested at the back.She knew that she was trapped.He was doing it deliberately.She stole a glance at him and was shocked to see the expression in his eyes.It was so intense,his eyes probing into her,to her very soul.She held her breathe,her heart skipped a beat.She craved for his kiss .She came back to her sense as Nani coughed in sleep.She tried to sit upright but he pressed her against him and whispered in her ear:Khushi,relax,I'm your husband.She tried to struggle but in vain.Soon she fell asleep and till they reached Delhi,Arnav Singh Raizada cuddled her in his arms and kissed her forehead several times with all his love and tenderness.When Khushi awoke she was alarmed to see her resting comfortably in his arms.

The car reached the Raizada mansion.She tried to get out and when he put his hand under her elbow to help her, the feeling of his fingers sent a tremor through her.He and Khushi then helped Nani and Khushi's mother to the house.Others had already reached there and was chatting with the relatives and friends present there.It was then she heard a shrieking voice calling Arnav's name:Arnav,Arnav...

Arnav swiftly turned to see the owner of the voice and was responding back with the same intensity:Aunt Anitha..what a surprise.Why didn't you inform me that you are coming?

Anitha hugged Arnav and said:I wanted to give you surprise handsome.

Khushi was silently watching their interaction and was also admiring the beauty of the lady in front of her.She was in late fifties and Khushi was awe inspired by her classic looks which resembled Arnav.Arnav turned to her and introduced each other:Aunt Anitha,this is my wife.

Khushi felt uncomfortable at the gaze of the aunt.She looked at her critically and then at Arnav and spoke without any affection:Nice to meet you.

Khushi:Namaste.

As she felt out of place she hurried to the hall in search of Payal.She found her in the study room talking to some one.She went near and spoke in a low voice:Jeeji I want to talk.

Payal and Khushi went to a corner of the hall and Khushi continued:Jeeji,have you met aunt Anitha?

Payal:Yes,so?

Khushi:I don't know jeeji,I feel very uncomfortable.I haven't heard about her earlier.

Payal:I asked Aakash.He says that she is their father's youngest sister and she is a very loving and jovial lady.Why Khushi?What happened?

Khushi:Nothing jeeji.

They were soon called to the hall by Nani and then after a light refreshment ,all retired to their rooms. They were reminded of the photoshoot to happen in the evening and to their relief the venue was changed to Raizada mansion.All were so tired that they just wanted to sleep only.

Khushi was taken to Arnav's room and while she opened the door to the poolside,she heard his voice behind.Please don't open it now,Khushi,it's still warm outside.She came back to the room and without looking at him she crossed the room where her suitcases were kept in one corner by the servants.She tried to lift one and at once he came to her help.

Khushi:I can lift it myself.He didn't listen.Instead kept it on the bed and went to the washroom.She opened it and took out a lehenga and top with a very beautiful dupatta.She spread it on the bed and then took matching ornaments from her jewel box.The colour matched her eyes .Then she lifted another suitcase in which she kept her air pillow and bedsheet.To her horror she saw it empty.Then she hurried to the other suitcases and opened it desperately and was startled by the voice behind:You won't get what you look for.

For a moment she didn't understand.Then she looked at him and saw a mischievous smile on his face.The pillow and the new beautiful,expensive bedsheet is in your maid's home now.

Khushi gasped:Whaaat?

Arnav:Yes,my Khushi,I gave it as a present to her husband who is your gardener.

Khushi threw her bag at him and yelled:How dare you?

He avoided the throw and caught her in his arms and said in a husky voice:No wife would wish to sleep on the floor alone on the wedding night and during honeymoon.

She tried to push him away and as both struggled they lost balance and fell on the bed.Her face was on his bare chest,her lips pressing on his left breast.Both were still but came back to sense when they heard a knock on the door.

Chote..chote...Anjaly was calling.Khushi,ashamed to look at Arnav,got up and hurried to the door forgetting that Arnav was wearing only a black trousers.

Arnav:Stop Khushi.

But Khushi opened the door and Anjali was too embarrassed to see Arnav half naked,Khushi's sindoor spread all over her face and on Arnav's chest.She at once went from the room.

Arnav hurried to the door and closed it.

Arnav:Don't you have commonsense?

Khushi:I'm sorry.But won't forgive you for taking away my things. I won't sleep on bed.

Arnav:Ok,then sleep on the floor.

Khushi:And I know why you were sitting with me in the car.

Arnav came very near and whispered:I'll never forget the journey.I know that you are craving for my kisses but your ego stops you.

Khushi felt caught.She said:Don't have false ideas,Mr.Raizada.I..have...no such interest.

Suddenly he threw back his head and laughed.

Khushi was startled and said firmly:I'll remain your wife in name only.

Arnav still laughing:Let's see.Then suddenly he caught her in his arms and said in the husky tone; You will shower me with your kisses and will give yourself to me very soon Khushi Kumari Gupta.Khushi pushed him away and went

to the bathroom and while she was opening its door he asked:Shall I come with you?

Khushi was shocked,colour rose to her cheeks and retorted:You promised me you will behave like a gentleman.But your approach is just opposite.

Arnav laughed and said:Let me try.She showed a face and went inside.

Khushi leaned on the wall and closed her eyes as she was shocked by her own emotions at his touch and words.

Arnav was not in the room when she came back.She dressed very elegantly and she looked extremely beautiful in the red lehenga.Arnav's and her eyes met when she descended the steps and he hurried to her side to help.Aunt Anitha was critically watching her .Anjali hugged her and said:Beautiful Khushi,gorgeous.

The photoshoot started.

Aunt Anitha was wearing a heavy saree with matching jewels.As Khushi was moving towards Payal,she heard two aged lady relatives speak:I wonder how this Anitha is transformed into a chatter box and decorative?Do you remember her Rajeswari?She was a very quiet,simple,innocent,well mannered girl .

Rajeswari::I think her marriage was a total mistake in her life.

The other lady:Her parents looked at his wealth only.I still remember how she was good in arts,literature and music but her husband's family was orthodox.He hated dance and music and never allowed her to write.

Rajeswari:I think only Sunaina understands her better.

Khushi was wondering:Who was Sunanina?

Arnav came to her side and led her to the centre of the hall.As Arnav was talking to one of his friends,Anitha came near her and asked:Khushi,did you marry him for love or money?

She was totally shocked by the way she asked it.Khushi:Pardon,I didn't get you.

Anitha repeated the question.she continued:I can't see the radiance on your face .And you look uncomfortable when he touches you.

Khushi:Why are you talking to me like this?

Before Khushi got an answer the cameraman asked Arnav-Khushi and Aakash-Payal to move to the garden.They were followed by a few people present there. Among them was aunt Anitha.The assistant was showing the poses and accordingly they had to perform.Khushi found herself in Arnav's arms.Anitha's eyes were making her uncomfortable.Her words echoed in her ears.She decided to pretend as though she is enjoying the shoot.Arnav was surprised to see the change and asked in her ear:Tempting me?

Khushi blushed and Cameraman asked Arnav to kiss her on her cheeks.Then a voice interrupted them.It was Anitha's voice:No,better Khushi kiss Arnav.Khushi felt herself shiver at her voice.She thought:Why this shameless woman is interfering?

Arnav was looking mischievously at her and the camera crew were urging her to kiss him.She was burning with anger but didn't show it.Very slowly,she kissed Arnav on his cheeks.But they made her do it three times and as she felt very ashamed and angry decided to move away from there.Payal came near and said:You know Khushi,Arnavji is very mischievous.We saw him showing action to the Cameraman for retake.Khushi was now furious.She spoke to Arnav without looking at his face:I'm feeling tired.I want to take rest.Then she immediately left the place.

She reached their room and Arnav followed her .

Khushi:Mr.Raizada,I already told you to behave properly.You want to make me a laughing stock?

She turned and left the room.While she was going down to the hall she saw Anitha searching for her.

Anitha:Where did you go?

Khushi:See aunt Anitha,I don't think that I have to answer your questions.It's my personal matter.

Anitha:I'm Arnav's aunt and I have every right to know why both of you behave like strangers.

Khushi:I'm Arnav's wife and I have every right to keep our personal matters personal.

Anitha:If you are his wife,behave like one.

Khushi:That's none of your business.

Anjali came listening to the heated argument.Arnav was listening to each and every word.

Anjaly:Khushi..what is this?

Khushi:I'm sorry di,but I don't know why she is after me the moment she met me.

Anjay:Khushi,please go to your room and take rest.

Khushi left immediately to her room but on the way she saw Arnav standing with an annoyed expression on his face.He didn't ask anything.

Khushi ,as she was very tired,fell asleep on the couch in the room.When she got up it was already evening.Arnav was nowhere there.She peeped into the hall.Servants were moving and Nani and Anjaly were on some serious talk.Khushi went down and when they saw her they stopped talking.She felt bad.She turned to go to her room.Then Anjali called:Khushi,please come here.She went reluctantly.

Anjaly:I want to talk to you.It's about aunt Anitha.She left and Arnav went with her .

Khushi:Oh!is it because of me?

Anjaly:No,Khushi,she wants to pick her friend from railway station.See Khushi,she is like that.She speaks and people don't like it.But she is a gem of a person and Arnav is very fond of her because she looked after him in his childhood.

Nani:I don't blame you but I think you have to apologise and bring her back.

Khushi:I will naniji.I will.

Khushi felt guilty conscious and apologized to Nani and Anjaly:Please don't feel so.She is an easily misunderstood person but as she loves Arnav she will love you too.She is possessive of him.And you know Khushi she is fond of him than her own children.There are reasons which I will tell you later.

Khushi:Di,who is Sunaina?

Anjali looked surprised:How do you know?

Khushi:I overheard someone speaking of her.

Anjali:Sunanina is Aunt Anitha's childhood friend.She is coming for reception tomorrow.And she has gone to pick her from station now.

Khushi:Is ..is ..she like aunt anitha?

Anjali:No,she is the kindest,sweetest,person in the world.Everyone loves her.

Arnav opened the door and saw Khushi lying on the floor unconscious.

I don't understand what is Khushi's fault in all this? why she has to apologize to Anitha? will Arnav again scold or fight with Khushi for his Aunt?
