I think the saree is for a few reasons.

1. To make her look mature. Saree gives a very mature impression. That's why it's the formal wear of girls during graduation.

2. To signify her traditional orthodox family background. .which I guess will play a role in the story.

3. To contrast with Advay's ultra western looks accent Hinglish language. .

4. To give her unique look as Shivani said.

5. To break the TV norm that girls wear salwar before marriage and saree after marriage. Who knows may be she'll be wearing salwar only after marriage!
