Episode 123
Aur aap say toh bilkul nahin ...
The ring seeks its owner ... It let's is presence be felt ...
Surprisingly at peace, after his conversation with Khushi he had moved to go back inside. His foot had stepped on something. He picks it up. A diamond ring. He holds it high to look carefully at it. Could belong to any of the women his household.
He had taken it to his Di. Yeh ring kiss ki hai ? He had asked. Di had looked at it and recognized her husband's simple taste. He liked simplicity ... understated mature beauty. No loud, fussy, over the top, colorful, extravagance for him ... Nothing flashily for her man. And that is exactly what this was, quiet and elegant, one small diamond on a thin band of gold.
She had feigned an ignorance at the breakfast table and tried to get her husband to admit to the ring. He had been a bit taken aback seeing the ring, but had denied ever getting it for her. It did not belong to him, and neither had he got it for her. The mystery continues.
Buaji's keen eye had spotted the missing ring in a heartbeat. She had been understandably upset. Not two days old, this girls engagement, and she had already misplaced the ring.
The ring, it had been bought with craftily devised, fraudulently acquired means, it was placed with a deviously planned, cleverly orchestrated treachery. But despite all his deceit, all his nefarious planning, the ring had not been placed in the rightful finger.
And now, it has fortuitously slipped off Khushi's finger, and has begun its intriguing, mystical journey of purification and rightful ownership. It wanders, with an uncanny singleminded ness, in hopes of being found and being placed where belongs by the rightful owner. It had already found him once, it will find him again. The Devi is at work here.
Buaji had threatened her with dire consequences if she did not return home with the ring. Khushi had walked into Shanti Van, like a cat, on all fours. Hari Parkash had greeted her at the door, telling her to stop looking. He was there, her Devi's emissary, he would take care. She had silenced him irritably, and had continued to prowl in corners, in hopes of finding the darned ring. Buaji's repeated phone calls were driving her crazy and it was in this perturbed state that she had encountered our man.
They could argue over who ran into who, from here to sundown. But the facts are, both were distracted, both preoccupied but since she had her back to him, and he was barreling down the living room with his nose buried into a pile on papers, maybe it was a little more his fault ... But then, like he had said ... His house ... His castle ...
They had collided in a spectacular shower of fluttering, white, loose leaf, office papers and file folders. Khushi had spun around completely by the force of the collision. He had stood his ground, viewing her with a hint of pleasure. He would've said nothing, other than maybe a muttered, What the * ! May even have gone down on his knees with her, to help gather the scattered instruments of trade. And maybe, just maybe, we would've gotten a Rabba ve out of it ... Not a likely scenario at all ...
But it was not to be ... Our girl had turned around and spit fire ... Dekh kar nahin chal saktay ? And then realizing who she had yelled at, had yelped a little inwardly ...
Waving a red flag at a bull ... That's what it was like. His eyes squinting, he had leaned forward, his jaw locked, his finger stabbing the air in emphatic emphasis ... My house ... My kingdom ... Quit intruding my path ... My life !
Pulling a cat by its tail, that's what it was like ... She had unleashed at him, hissing and spitting fire. His house, big deal ! Doesn't give his these kind of rights ... Instead of yelling, he should be apologizing!
Mein mafi mangoga ? He had stared at this crazy girl ... Are you out of you mind ?!?
Well, if he wasn't going to apologize, neither was she. She had not held back, told him exactly what she thought of him and his gargantuan ego. nd then, finally had issued her ruling, Ek baat dhian say soon lijiay, Hum bhi mafi nahin mangagay, aur aap say toh bilkul nahin ! She had bravely flung that between them and walked off in a huff.
He is left staring at the uncollated nightmare on the floor and yells for Hari Parkash in helpless, furious frustration.
