I joined IF for IPKKND but stayed here only coz of the wonderful authors present... I was never a silent reader, but things here on IF sometimes made me wonder... coz I didn't want to be dragged unnecessarily in stuff that were so new to me in the virtual space...
many authors I see, write that they take positive criticism well... but that is not actually true for all... sometimes its not only the authors but also their friends who get more offended... then they will chase u to the pit of hell 😔... i know that's what friends are for, to watch ur back... but plz show some mercy and compassion 😆 ... many readers are new and they do not know how to express their thoughts well...oh yess this reminded me of one writer😛
though i have never faced such a thing here, but i have seen it happen with so many new members on IF, and whenever I came across such scenario, I would just leave the story... because however good the story might be, it is not worth the humiliation, coz you never know when you are the next to face that... the high-handedness and arrogance of some writers really puts me off...
as for the point of comments on updates , it usually gets very difficult for readers to comment on stories when they are accessing it thru the mobile... like for me i have very hectic schedule and being in IT and sitting on the computer for nearly 12 hours in office, I usually read the updates on phone, and i used to read the updates chalte-chalte🤢and as an when I get time at home I make it a point to switch on my laptop I comment on all the updates I have read ...but some writers expect comments for each and every update and that too flowery ones, which sometimes gets very difficult... a writer writes the story according to his/her time convenience, all I ask is for some leverage for the readers too... if a writer is late in giving an update the reader understands their problems and waits...but I have seen writers chucking out their readers if they fail to write a comment after one or two updates.. which can happen quite naturally due to several reasons of the readers, which the writer refuses to listen...
Just my thought - In blogs it is easy to follow the story, and u can get an instant message when the story is updated and also u can manage well the stories you read... but on IF sadly there is no such thing 😔...you can check your posts sweetheart... that's an easy way.. i do that only because i don't add people and don't even want them to pm me.. this way you can comment when you want no compulsion😃and if you are not on the PM list of the authors, and people like me who usually stalk the stories for update usually miss the updates... and it makes it difficult when some day u find out the story again and try to make a link of everything... but till then the author decides to remove the story and make a private blog...🤢
but touchwood, I think I have made some really nice choices in reading stories here... the writers I follow are really gems ⭐️... and I know I can speak my mind with them and they will take it in a positive manner.. 😃
@--Sonia-- thanks for starting such a nice topic... hope it helps both the readers and writers to bridge the gap 😊

I was very shy initially before I became vocal on the forum. Even then, I had PMed my favourite authors as I was too apprehensive to post my reviews on the main forum. Later, I don't know how but I started commenting and now you can see where I am :P
I am not a silent reader. If I like something I will tell the author about it (unless it slipped my mind because of some external factors. I will never intentionally not comment). Yes, if I don't like something and its a new or upcoming author, I don't say it because they might feel bad. So I quietly leave :) And this is because I don't know how the author will take it :)
Many readers tell me that they are too shy to post on the public forum and hence PMs me their reviews and I am fine with it. They are not silent any more ;)
1) Some say they are not good with words. I understand that too because once upon a time my siblings used to have a gala time poking fun at my grammatical and spelling errors! But what I don't understand is why so many authors silently read stories (I mean only by liking each and every chapter but never uttering a word about the story) They are pretty good with words, hence they should try to say something about the story and especially so because that author becomes happy that an established author from the forum read him/her.
2) Time. Time is the main culprit. I don't get time at all these days to even read anything, commenting is a different business altogether. These days I read only when something is highly recommended. But I always feel that if you are vocal otherwise, then you should try to drop in at least one emoticon. How much time does it take to type this -> :) ?
3) Ego. I have seen and experienced this. Some people are too egoistic to comment. I don't know what their thought process is. But this happens. Some are so egoistic that even if they like something they will not even 'Like' it. Their 'Like's are very precious
4) Enmity. Yes. If a reader stops liking an author, then he or she will turn silent (But yes, they do read) So my previous point on ego does feature here as well.
5) Give and take. I read you. You read me. I comment. You comment. This I have seen almost everywhere on the FF forum...
6) Scared. Some authors are not approachable and hence readers get afraid to comment. What if the author and her whole brigade would come forward to attack you?
7) Competition. Notice this, most popular authors don't read each other on the forum
8) Falling sick. It is a part of our real life. We fall sick and we just like to lie down and read and have no energy to type. And often the sick 'leaves' are so long that the readers are never able to tell what they wanted to about the story
9) PMs. If an author doesn't PM, the reader will not comment.
10) Prejudice/Experience. If the author doesn't acknowledge the comments, the reader turns silent
P.S. Sorry for such a long essay and point wise reply. I have studied under the Maharashtra Board and Mumbai University so...
- we are always told by our teacher write your answers in point because examiner never read your long para's.. it's easier to read a comment in point.. kuch nai toh heading hi padh k samajh lo..😛
P.P.S These points may not apply fully to all and one. Its just my observation :)

For me it is big turn off when a writer starts to replay only their friends. So the thing I do is I stop reading their work. So I understand your point on that:)
