So all my dear silent readers, please appreciate the work that you enjoy😊

due of lack of time I can understand as they is so many things going on your real life there is no time to read any story. So could uderstand that. it is good that you try to comment or press like as then the author know you have read the story and have liked:)

that is a really good reason. Sometimes it does take time to know if this is a story which I am going to like and love reading it. As for stoping in middle everyone has been there where sometimes the author has stoppend in mildde as sometimes maybe the author was not happy how the story is going and it is going as they thought will be so maybe that could be the reason.

But being shy and having a ego is two things...

What I am trying to say is that shy is okay but try to press like if you are reading someone work and if you are that shy then send a pm. having ego by thinking my comment and likes goes to someone story which I really like is also not good. Or to point out the mistakes.

In the eed we are just writing we have a idea in your mind.

I really don't know, actually, but can I just say something?
If you send me PMs, I swear I do read your updates, because your stories are great, but these says I am quite busy as I am currently in A2 and I am in the process of applying for Uni's n thiTaos so stressful! So if I reply late then I am so so so sorry! But I will read, like n comment your stories, whether I am busy or not, I promise.

For me , if i'm using my laptop then it's way easier for me to comment or like a post. And when i'm on the laptop i always make sure of it that i do comment and like the post unless i'm very busy.

But there are other times when i'm out on the road and sometimes get bored than end up on IF reading stories thru my mobile, And to be honest i hate posting comments using my phone! I don't know if it only happens to me but as soon as i try to comment my phone automatically starts typing gribbish! (only on IF). And by the time i'm home and on my laptop i forget that i wanted to leave a comment or so...
I honestly apprecriate all the stories and writers we have here on IF, because trust me they sometimes make my day with all the wonderful stories...
I don't think it will take much to leave a comment once a blue moon...😉
(My opinion)

well, that could be a reason also. I do agree writing a comment on moblie does get hard and sometimes it does not even get posted here.

Well it is good that you used to send pms to the authous as they get to know that you are reading their story:)
I think once you start to comment thn you cant stop yourself. So in the end it is about starting to comment:)

I am not a silent reader. If I like something I will tell the author about it (unless it slipped my mind because of some external factors. I will never intentionally not comment). Yes, if I don't like something and its a new or upcoming author, I don't say it because they might feel bad. So I quietly leave :) And this is because I don't know how the author will take it :)

I do understand but as a new author they want if someone tells them what they have gone wrong as they are new and dont know that much. and getting comment from you will be dream come true. So how will they feel bad:) in th end everyone wants to improve and not every comment as to be something they like. they could tell what they have not liked.

Many readers tell me that they are too shy to post on the public forum and hence PMs me their reviews and I am fine with it. They are not silent any more ;)

1) Some say they are not good with words. I understand that too because once upon a time my siblings used to have a gala time poking fun at my grammatical and spelling errors! But what I don't understand is why so many authors silently read stories (I mean only by liking each and every chapter but never uttering a word about the story) They are pretty good with words, hence they should try to say something about the story and especially so because that author becomes happy that an established author from the forum read him/her.

I am also not that good when it comes to words and write that I feel the update and that is why I write two words instead. it is just sometimes you dont know what to say about a update.

2) Time. Time is the main culprit. I don't get time at all these days to even read anything, commenting is a different business altogether. These days I read only when something is highly recommended. But I always feel that if you are vocal otherwise, then you should try to drop in at least one emoticon. How much time does it take to type this -> :) ?

Time is a really important part. however sometimes I have seen people that so read the update but dont comment. it does not have to be a long comment just few words then the author will be happy.

3) Ego. I have seen and experienced this. Some people are too egoistic to comment. I don't know what their thought process is. But this happens. Some are so egoistic that even if they like something they will not even 'Like' it. Their 'Like's are very precious

been there and I has like What the?

I just thought okey what ever. have your ego instead

4) Enmity. Yes. If a reader stops liking an author, then he or she will turn silent (But yes, they do read) So my previous point on ego does feature here as well.

I really dont undestand that part to why readers do that. in the end your are reading a story you like so just comment and dont let you ego come in the way.
I

5) Give and take. I read you. You read me. I comment. You comment. This I have seen almost everywhere on the FF forum...

I know, but I dont understand one thing. why do that? Just because I dont read your story does not mean that you have to stop reading my. I dont believe on that part because I read stories which I love to read not because they are my readers. So that is something readers or writers has to stop doing that.

6) Scared. Some authors are not approachable and hence readers get afraid to comment. What if the author and her whole brigade would come forward to attack you?

What the?
7) Competition. Notice this, most popular authors don't read each other on the forum

One word to say
lol
dont have that much ego

8) Falling sick. It is a part of our real life. We fall sick and we just like to lie down and read and have no energy to type. And often the sick 'leaves' are so long that the readers are never able to tell what they wanted to about the story

very true and sometimes when you read a story after so long time you just forget.

9) PMs. If an author doesn't PM, the reader will not comment.

Why? because you like the story so why wait for the author will pm you then you will comment.
there comes ego part again
10) Prejudice/Experience. If the author doesn't acknowledge the comments, the reader turns silent

But sometimes the author does not have the time to always replay on every comment. As much I do want to replay, here is not that much time. Here the link button does not work so the readers have to understand if they dont have that much tim even the writer does not have much time.

P.S. Sorry for such a long essay and point wise reply. I have studied under the Maharashtra Board and Mumbai University so...

No, you had really awesome points and I had the great time to replay on them:)
P.P.S These points may not apply fully to all and one. Its just my observation :)

I think most silent readers aren't aware that they are silent unless told.

There's not much into it, really. We all were silent readers initially...

Interesting question ...
According to me ...that's because ...of lack of time ...
Or mostly their laziness...or slow Internet
This two or three can only be a reason ...
