Episode 83: Arnav's misery

NICE TITLE

This significant episode, though not huge but has impact, moves the story around beautifully, showing growth in the strength of their bond. light and entertaining yet keeping their main struggles in the center, that unravel in 84.

Parallel scenes in the beginning during the puja, Khushi sits beside her ill father, she flashes back to Arnav describing the pain of losing his parents, it stayed with her despite all the other mean things he said, she was thinking of how much pain he endured. Khushi is not there physically but her heart and mind are with him and i have a feeling that somewhere in the back of his head during the puja, her weeping face lingers thinking about her parents too.

THIS IS THE BIGGEST CONNECTION THEY HAVE

This is a new phase in their relationship, the mutual understanding of each other's pain will go far and will always be cherished by both.

Anjali continues to act cold towards Shyaam

(LOVE her like this) ME TOO

, she unleashes her frustration on him in the kitchen, explaining to him that she feels like they're drifting apart, they're not spending enough time together...Shyams true colors come out, he blows up "so do you want me float around you all day?" (yes shyam bitwa, that's what you do around Buaji so why not your wife?)😆😆😆 Anjali storms out of there, but Shyaam knows all the tricks, he apologized in extravagant style, how was this girl ever supposed to suspect her husband? using flagerant gajras and lovely compliments and when that didn't work, with clever sweet talk, "Jaao maaf kiya" he begs her to say in front of the whole family. In his quest to woo his wife, he accidentally plays cupid once again to Arnav and Khushi planting the idea of "maafi" in Arnav's head. sorry in Arnav's head 😊and that he loves Anjili tooo much in everyone's head😡 the two timing fellow😡

Though the general idea was there as he looked for her to tell he felt badly, i think it hit him that it's called apologizing.👏

"Arnav Singh Raizada kabhi kisi maafi nahi mangta" a firm confident statement made by him not to long ago to Khushi's Buaji came to his mind, and this he stood by just as firmly...even if it meant leaving behind the woman he cares for most, in the middle of the road in all of his anger. A situation that could've easily been avoided, had he done what she asked...apologized, a simple I'm sorry. Then again we saw him melt and apologize to Anjali just the day after he made that statement to Buaji, such a complex man. tragedies of life that obviously contributed to his bitterness and surely his attitude against such common gesture stems from it, maybe he owes his success to this "i'm not sorry for the way i am" attitude as well and finally he never got and apology from anyone for turning his life upside down at such a tender age.. whatever the case, if his tragedies have hardened him up against this gesture, today her tragedy shatters that that hardened shell. His work was cut out for him, he knew he had to swallow those words he said the Buaji.

TRUE FACTS OF HIS LIFE

At night time, their constant thoughts of each other takes them both under the stars.

Her insecurities about losing her parents for a second time are elevated more than ever with the reminders of her parents at the RM and coming home to a very ill Sashi.

SHE WAS DEEPLY HURT AND ALL THE WOUNDS CAME TO SURFACE

Payal puts her mind at ease but as soon as she asks how her day was, again all she could think of was his "pata ha kaisa lagta hai" her heart sinks with all his pain.

As for Arnav, looks up at the sky, standing in front of a vine that winds around the wooden frame.

The vines again representing his mom as she resides in all these plants that bring her son feel closer to her. Today he missed her badly, perhaps needed some strength to face Khushi the next day so he could apologize. A solemn beautiful ending to a solmn day. EXCELLENT CONNECTION LOVED IT MUAHHH FOR THIS

The next morning brings a brand new day and a brand new Arnav Singh Raizada!! He stands in front of the mirror, flustered, anxious, nervous, inconfident, unsure, and totally lost on the saying "sorry" thing. he tries out a few different tones making for a hilarious scene, THIS IS THE BIGGEST ACHIEVEMENT DONE BY KHUSHI IN HIS CHARACTER HE WANS TO CORRECT HIMSELF 👏👏👏

Take one: "dekho meri baat dhyaan se suno...kal ghar mein jo bhi hua woh...i mean tumne, matlab maine jo bhi kaha" (listen to me carefully, whatever happened yesterday, i mean you, meaning whatever i said..)

It just wasn't coming together, so he tries ASR mode

Take two: "Khushi.Kumaari.Gupta'😆

Nope not what he's going for either "this is so tough"

He gives himself a pep talk

"itna mushkil nahi hai, dheere araam se, sirf sorry kehna hai, bahot aasaan hai" (Its not so hard, take it easy, only have to say sorry)😆

For sure Take three he was going to get it if his concentration wasn't broken by La, never seen him so annoyed with her...

he goes back to he mirror even while she still there. He probably doesn't even realize how important Khushi has become. La continues her tradition Indian wife avataar and brings him a shirt but Arnave is quick to tell her "relax..i'm not going to the office today"

She asks if she can go to the party "Since when do you need my permission?" he bluntly asks her. IF ASR came off controlling with Khushi, it was only because of what Khushi was able to stir up in him in ways noone else dared, his need too always be in control around the girl that drove his life out of control. 👏He was never dominating over La or Anjali or any other women in his life for that matter, he very much practiced his "live and let live" philosophy and CVs made sure to hight light that.

TRUE ONLY KHUSHI KNEW HOW TO TAME THIS HORSE

the door bell rings "aaj to usse sorry bol kar rahuna (today i'm going to say sorry to her)"..he's determined, but this line makes me wonder, he has felt like saying it before hmmm

He nervously waits, JP goes to open the door, "send them to the poolside to me" Arnave tell JP. His dhak dhaks get louder at the sound of the door slidign open, i don't think he has ever been so nervous in his life! "mujhe tumse kuchh baat karni hai"

"jo boln hai boliey sahaab" Arnavs eye raise up like "what the!" as the manly voice, definetly not khushi's, speaks up in fear...poor Balwaar, wrong time wrong place, had to endure "get out" from Arnav.😆😆

Another epic scene at the dining table as Arnav immanently turns down La's lunch date offer and fishes for confirmation on when Khushi will be coming to put an end to his misery...

"aur waise bhi, tumhare paas time kaha hai? woh ladki aayegi na ..kya naam hai woh.." "you don't have time anyways, since that girl will come, whats her name?" Ok you think 24 hours about her whether in love or hate but dont remember her name achaaa😆THAT WAS SO FUNNY

interesting how the CVs kept in mind that all his encounters have mostly been a secret from everyone, all the family knows is he hates that girl "woh ladki" he has to pretend her name is not worth it to remember 😆IT WAS DONE SUPERBLY

La mentions Pam and Sim, adding insult to injury...he needs to make it more clear

"woh ladki aati hai na tumhe train karn ke liye"

"KHushi!" la finally gets it.

bingo! He lets his frustration out since Khushi is keeping him waiting..."Di, appk uss khushi se kehe dena, aise hi late aati rahi, to uski salary cut kar milegi"

"Di let that Khushi know, that if she keeps coming late like this, her salary will be cut"

Anjali a bit taken back by her brothers random comment, "no need for that CHotey, she took the day off"

Poor guy "what!...i mean why does she need to take the day off...!!" things just keep getting messy for him..."matlab, usse salary kaam ki milti hai ya chu chutti lene ki...(i mean does get paid for working or taking o- off)" digs a deeper hole for himself...Sobti is a genius here and beyond ADORABLE!!

HIS STAMMERING AND VOICE MODULATION WAS MAKING ME CHUCKLE HERE

Frustrated at the news of Khushi, La feels the side effects as he yells "Enough Lavanya!"...all she did was ask if he has a headache again...first Balwaar and now La, whose next??

I wonder if someone told KHushi about the effect she was having on laad governor, What would she think? she has seen the effects of her fainting and her tears on him but here she has completely got him turned upside down... behaving and doing things so not ASR!

I WISH SHE COULD SEE HIM

The funny scenes keep coming, he calls her but, gets nervous and hangs up at the sound of her voice...again a pep talk "sorry to bolna ha, itna difficult bhi nahi hai" (Really Arnav, you've been saying that for a few hours now)😆😆😆

He calls again, but his failure to talk in a timely manner had Khushi believing he's some guy harrasing girls "Don't you have a mom and a sis at home?" she scolds,

appalling him with those words, he hangs up...after which as usual his presence reached her a bit late, she knew it was him and i have a feeling she could sense his bechaini (restlessness) and just how badly he longed to see her...

in the cutest way he expresses his anger over her taking off today...of all days, (like she was supposed to know) "Khushi kumaari gupta, aaj jab mujhe usse baat karni thi to chutti lene ki kya zarurat thi?"

The "laws of attration" go to work for him...He really wants to see her today, dil se (from the heart).. HE ALWAYS WANTED HER AND THESE DAYS HIS URGE AND YEARNING IS WAY TOO MUCH👏👏👏

Episode 85 stresses on how difficult it is for Arnav to express his feelings to loved ones... Whether its his childhood trauma, no male role model to teach him...or just Subcontinental language or all of the above.. But it rings true. And Barun made it sound even more TRUE...

TRUE HE IS THE BEST👏👏👏 HE PORTRAYED THIS CHARACTER SO WELL I MUST SAY HE WAS LIVING AND BREATHING IN IT SO REAL THAT I THINK WE NEED A DIFFERENT PAIR OF EYES TO SEE HIM IN ANY OTHER ROLE😳

IN RED YES I THINK ITS OUR SUBCONTINENTAL WAY OF STYLE TOO😊

In this age of Valentines Day, Friednship day etc... Wo doesn't know how to say I Love you, Happy Birthday or Sorry... Hallmark became a cable channel from the profits of those cards😕 ... BUT our ASR doesn't know how to say Happy Birthday, Sorry and I love You... Episode 85 is the beginning of understanding the man behind suave business language but lacking in personal communicative language... So glad CVs took time to show this deficiency and YOU all...the wonderful writers explained everything so eloquently (thank you again)...

YES HALLMARK HAS NO AFFECT ON HIM AND CV DID GOOD JOB KEEPING HIS CHARACTER STEADY👏👏👏

(Personal note: loving ASR made me appreciate my husband more ..who has never said "I love you" during our 16 yr marriage and 22 yrs together but everyday made me feel the love through doing laundry, cooking, cleaning and taking care of our child)

Also words for manners ( please, thank you , sorry) were more western in root & practice..The Bengali translations are sooo dramatic (Doya Korben, Onek Dhonnobaad, Maaf Korben) and mouthful... They are truly expressed in Tone, Volume and Nuances of Inflection (is it same in Hindi?)... On the other hand ... Words for EMOTIONS are plentiful in Bengali and sometimes there is no direct translation in English... From top of my head ABHIMAN is one such word... KHushi harbored more ABHIMAN than pain ( knowing ASR wants to say sorry but can't)... Just my POV though...

I THINK WHATEVER LANGUAGE WE EPEAK THERE ARE CERTAIN NORMS THROUGH WHICH WE EXPRSS OUR EMOTIONS ,ITS THE MATTER OF PRACTICE AND APPLICATION HOW DO WE USE THEM AND WITH WHAT MODULATION WHEN AND WHERE

well mami had said the same thing about the sun when he was cool about coffee being spilled on him. he'd heard a very scared man say "sorry" and something had connected immediately. he knew how bad he'd felt after spilling heartless cruelty all over her. he let jp off the hook. it was a big change in him no doubt, he had learnt from a terrible mistake. and his "sorry" had made him feel lighter. but since no one is to know what exactly happened within him, we will stick with the line that connected the two opening scenes. last night it was "paagal" as bridge. this morning, it's the largest star in our solar system.BIG CHANGE AFTER ONE SORRY

and she notices the mark on her arm, as she stands before the mirror. when he'd gripped her tight the evening before, there lay the evidence of an emotion no one had an inkling how to record or describe. it was just felt. she turned and looked at it again as a strain of music tiptoed in to watch her quiet moment with a man who wasn't there. yet he was.

she knew she didn't want anyone to see this, no questions to be asked, for she had no answer to give. she herself had no clue what the answer might be. the dupatta became her cover, her protector as she draped it over her shoulders and wrapped it around. she told amma, it was because she felt cold that she's drawn the dupatta around her. no questions. no answers. this is close to her and she will keep it that way.

flaming mood, he comes down the stirs... his things are not in place. lavanya's insitence on marriage has really rattled him. "kab tak chalega matlab? lavanya, humare beech aise tai hua tha aur aisa hi rahega." how long will this go on? lavanya, this was what we agreed to and this is how it will remain.don't try to behave like my wife, you are never going to be that. brusque, rude, but what he says is true. that was the deal... not his fault if la is suddenly on a marriage track.SHE IS IRRITATING WITH WIFY SHTYLE


khushi walks in, sees him, and smiles her big giving happy khushi smile.👏👏👏


he scowls.ONE DAY HE WILL DO EVERYTHING TO BRING THIS SMILE AS THIS SMILE IS HIS LIFE REASON OF SURVIVAL

i chortle. ah this is communication. dil ka communication, unseen, under cover, so thrilling, only that naughty know all music picks on it. har baar.


she has that oh no, not again look. "lagta hai laad governor usske asli roop main aagaye hain." looks like, laad gov is back to his real self again.

why is the dupatta over her like a shawl wonders anjali as she comes in for a moment, then disappears. good writing, would have never occurred to the man in gussa to wonder about it.


he walks out, passing her, and the dupatta does its thing. latches on to his laptop this time. nice green leheriya. goes well with that pink. perfect with the laptop.


he walks away taking her feelings, sorry, dupatta with him. 👏👏

they both realise what's happened.


a moment's hesitation, then he gathers her dupatta and walks back to her holding it out, reminded me of a day by the pool when he'll hold the dupatta with purpose and haul her in, reel her in with it, close to him very close.


she takes hold of her errant dupatta. okay time to give this one a name for it's practically a character in our tale with a major role, in fact several roles, still discovering them. now on khushi's dupatta/EACH AND ELEMENT IN IPK HAS ITS OWN ROLE WITHOUT GETTING PAID

s is/are known as meri jaan. and as we see her again and again, we'll realise she becomes his mother's aanchal - free end of the sari when worn - sometimes, other times her messenger to him, or his means of making her feel she belongs to him.YES IT DELIVERS HER MESSAGE TO HIM AND IT IS ALWAYS HAPPY IN HIS PROXIMITYaanchal has deep cultural connotations, mother's sari end with which she covers her child, wipes away a stain sometimes, or gives it to her baby to dab tears, or a dribble; which a child holds on to as a toddler while tumbling toddling walking, that creates a sense of security, linus's security blanket comes to mind; the word aanchal always evokes a feeling of mother. YEAP A CONNECTION ,ATTACHMENT

where he holds meri jaan to stop her from leaving and specially during remarriage when he grips her and khushi looks back, i did feel this maa thing in it. like a boy seeing an emotion that was mother, in the girl he loves. a beautiful vm by zoha which i posted here got me thinking about this. okay, before i am certified insane,

YOU R NOT AS I AM RAISING TWO I CAN TOTALLY RELATE TO IT

i am not suggesting he is mother fixated or anything like that. but "maa" is a hurt and a terrible feeling trapped in him, this needs to find expression, release, if he is to heal internally. this is also key to the story of asr, the gradual assuaging of pain, allowing him to open that ocean of emotions he has held within so long; all his goodness, the amrit sitting there, till maa is not worked out, it cannot emerge.
TRUE FACTS

somewhere the clean, conscientious, dm worshiping, clear eyed, khushi who is so loving and giving and whom he is viscerally attracted to, does make that maa place feel better. exactly how, i have no idea. but the creators were sharp thinkers, it isn't by chance that they put in the aanchal holding thing in, in fact, the one where he holds meri jaan along with arav is pretty obvious (too much in my opinion).I DID NOT LIKE IT AS I DID NOT WATCH OR ADORE THAT TRACK JUST READ WUof course meri jaan as a device can be rather corny and has been used in several serials and movies, but here the actors and the directors were so good at using the idea, i just sat back and enjoyed, dropping all disbelief and sniggers. my heart sang, ha ha, that rabba ve every single time.

in that instant the course of their lives possibly changed. he could have walked away.YEAP HE LEARNED HOW TO SAY SORRY


yet he couldn't. not really.

never again would he be able to do that. not even when he thinks the worst of her. then too would he catch the fallen one and pull her close to him. never to let her go. though to cajole himself, to make himself feel he could, he'd say it's only for six months.

do me so do... rabba vey notes as he sees the mark on her arm, the result of his gussa last night. this gussa of his, so much in him. there was a hint that some day we'll know more about it. but then that didn't happen. yet, i know it well, no need to tell me why or wherefore, too much information can kill a thing.BUT IT DOES EXCITE TOO


she's breathing hard. felling exposed. HER RESPECTbeyond just what the drop of dupatta exposes. that mark is hers to own. she doesn't want to explain it. not even to him.


he remembers all that she had.HE IS GETTING BETTER



as she goes to pick up the dupatta and cover again, his hand reaches up involuntarily...


and suddenly, it hits him where it hurts. just like that.

his fist had tightened in a ball only the day before when the pain of losing his mother had struck him madly as the garland snapped and fell. now a searing pain it seems, after seeing what the falling dupatta revealed.


every time you hurt, i hurt... i hurt more. i don't know why... but that's what happens. YOU SAID IT

he tries to recover, turns away once more.


only to turn back again, well not quite, just a little super stylish quick glance backward and a husky, soft, "sorry."👏👏👏 ISN'T HE ADORABLE HERE


that's all.
but before leaving the house, at the door, he does, oh yes he does turn back.HE HAS TO MAR KHANI HAI MERE SE ISS NE WARNA


and she returns his gaze. amazed.


"kya.. phir se sorry kaha? sorry kaha... dobara sorry kaha." what! said sorry again. said sorry once... then twice!

and of course at that very instant came lavanya looking for a way to make asr see a biwi, a wife in her. and khushi's sanaka returned... looking for some cooky unique kkg way to make the man succumb.

and very cutely a different love story got going.

"aap theek to hai na," you're ok aren't you, asked payal stealing asr's line, well almost. if anyone else says "tum theek ho" i shall send copyright infringement lawyers after them.

"abhi toh theek hai, pata nahin, shayad kuch dino mein... kharab ho jaaye." akash was incredibly cute and utterly cheesy: i am ok now, but don't know, in a few days... i may not be.

manorama may go bithout engleees sometimes but never without her instincts. she smelled a rat in the voice lowered phone conversation.

shashi ji went checking on shyam's story and didn't really get anything other than one major gap: if he belongs to delhi, why is he living as a pg.

naniji reminded anjali that it's khushi who has brought change in meess kassyap which seems to be having a positive effect on chhotey.

and la got into bridal wear to look like a wife in asr's eyes. if the sun rose in the west this morning, watch where it will set, khushi. from sorry to gussa in less than an instant, faster than the fastest car moves the man's feelings. and aren't you afraid of fast cars, khushi?

OVER HERE KHUSHI IS TOUCHING WRONG BUTTON
