After 2 years, Khushi tucked her infant daughter, Arushi, into her cot. Doe- eyed and black- haired, Arushi was a delightful mixture of her parents' genes. Aarav hung over the side of the cot watching his sister and pushed a stuffed toy at her hand. The little starfish fingers closed round the bear, but then the baby's eyes slid drowsily shut. "Arushi's sleeping again," Aarav complained, his little boy's restive body humming with suppressed energy. "It's been a long day for her.' Khushi smiled as she thought back on a day of great enjoyment at the naming ceremony held at Raizada Mansion.
For the first time, after a long time, she had contrived to have both her families (dadi and mother) in the same room. After the divorce, Anjali had visited the ashram and told all the truth to Dadiji. She accepted Khushi but was still doubtful over her mother. When Garima greeted Dadiji, she had merely nodded frostily across the room, but her resistance crumpled when Garima complimented her great grandchildren. Khushi had last seen her mother, buaji, naniji and Dadiji chatting companionably at the dining table and was relieved that their families could meet without any awkwardness. The previous year, Anjali had married Aman, Arnav's assistant, in a quiet ceremony. Still very religious, Anjali was ' to her astonishment and delight- now 4 months pregnant.
Khushi currently worked several hours in a day continuing with her pageant and charity work. She had also started accompanying Arnav abroad. These days he travelled less because he was keen to take an active role in his children's daily life. Khushi had found her husband wonderfully supportive during her pregnancy and it had wiped out all the memories of her lonely sense of isolation during the first 6 months of their marriage. She had enjoyed her pregnancy and had also been blessed with a straight forward delivery. It would be long time before she forgot Arnav's eyes shining with tears of pride and fascination when he saw his daughter for the first time.
As Aarav pelted out of the nursery and greeted his father at the top of his voice Khushi turned to greet Arnav. "NK is flirting like mad with your best friend, Lavanya. He's mesmerised." Arnav revealed with a wicked grin. "Oh, dear, I do hope she doesn't hurt his feelings." Khushi sighed. "I think NK is mature enough to look after himself," Arnav told her with quiet assurance. "How's our daughter?" "Fast asleep. I think all the attention she got this afternoon exhausted her. "You got plenty of attention too, "Arnav reminded her, scanning her slim shapely figure in red sari. "You look amazing." He closed his arms round Khushi and eased her up against his tall, powerful body. He stared down into her shining eyes and the ready smile of welcome already tugging at her ripe mouth and murmured softly, "Every time I see you, it's like coming home and like no other feeling I've ever had. I love you, Khushi." Khushi whispered the same sentiment back with similar intensity and gave herself up to the pleasure of his mouth on hers, happiness singing through her every skin cell...
