Episode 51

Solutions

Anjali is tying her thread when she believes she sees Shyam but before you know it he disappears. Was he there? She goes out to the car and Arnav is near the Gupta house just looking at the locked door. That locked door has unlocked the memories of Kushi in his mind. He looks so sad. She asks him what he is doing there. He ignores her. She tells him she thinks she saw his Jiju. "Why would he be here? Let's go." He looks one last time at the locked door as Anjali is getting into the car. The solution would be to leave all his regret behind those locked doors. As they are leaving the colony they run into Shyam. Anjali tells Arnav to stop the car and rings Shyam on the phone. Shyam answers and they get out of the car. Just in the nick of time, some fellow Shyam knows, passes by and stops to talk with him. He shoos him away and both Anjali and Arnav approach. Shyam blabbers about working for the guy in the stand trying to get his pension problems solved and that is why he is here. Yes, that is his solution for an excuse of why he is in this colony. He apologizes to Anjali because he had to "work". She tells him he takes care of everybody. Let's go. As both the men are getting into the car they both are affected by the locked Gupta house, Kushi's solution was leaving Delhi.

Lavanya is working in the kitchen and crying because she is chopping onions. She is fixing her face and complaining that she should have worn waterproof makeup. Mami is beside herself since Miss Lavanya has absolutely no talent in the kitchen. Mami's solution to this problem is giving her menial tasks which Lavanya just can't do. Mami finally gives her the flour to make the roti, all she will have to do is add water and mix. NOT. Lavanya doesn't want to get her nails ruined so her solution is to use two spoons. Mami tells her it wont be ready until her golden jubilee and airhead Lavanya says you have been married for 50 years? Great, congratulations! Mami says she will make the roti as well. Lavanya should cut some coconut for garnish. How much trouble could she get into with that task? Lavanya tries to open the coconut with a butter knife. The pressure cooker whistle blows and she is startled an up in the air goes the knife and down it comes landing between Mami's toes. Mami is very happy she only used a butter knife and not a chef knife!

Uncle Rahim is waiting outside of Nani's room and out comes Laxmi so he goes running after her calling her name waking Naniji. She gets up and goes to check on Lavanya.

In the taxi Buaji gives Kushi jalebi for the train ride to Lucknow. She doesn't want her to eat it now. She mentions to Kushi that it is cooking and preparing jalebi that Kushi finds solutions to her problems. Maybe she will find the solution just by eating the sweets. That's it! Kushi asks Buaji to come closer and she hugs her. She tells the taxi driver to turn back. She found her solution!

Mami thanks Lavanya for doing something wrong, using the butter knife otherwise she would have been dead! Nani wants to know if anyone is there? Mami asks if Lavanya added sugar to the milk and she says she did she added one less because she knows Arnav doesn't like it. Instead of not adding any because he can't have it she added one less tablespoon. Arnav watch out this girl is going to kill you! Mami's solution to this situation is that she needs help because her son's future depends on it!

The Gupta's are home sweet home! Kushi asks Happy if Mr. Bedi is around she needs to speak to him about space in the garage. She is going to open a Candy Store! She is jumping up and down so excited.

In Arnav's car Anjali gives him the drape to place around his mirror. He takes it remembering saving Kushi's flying Goddess in the store room. Shyam places it around the mirror.

Buaji tells Kushi that preparing sweets is not easy and Kushi says that they can do it for thye neighborhood and make the offerings for the mandir. She says she prayed for a sign and DM gave her this jalebi as the solution to the problem. Lots of people will buy. Say yes Buaji, say yes. Buaji is thinking "Madhumita Mishtan Bandar" sounds like a nice name for a bakery!

Now that's a solution!

awsome solutions Cyn! loved all the in red, but enjoyed reading the whole thing, wonderful flow šŸ‘

Episode 49/50

Naani is furious at Arnav's constant threats to leave the house. Anajli calms her down and points out that La didn't argue back regarding sharing of room. Nani is very doubtful that La will be able to prove herself. Anjali in her own sweet way explains to nani that these things take time to learn
"sanskaar sikhaye nahi jaavat...ee sab to barson ki parvarish ke baad aavat hai (values are learned over years and years)"

Nani, otherwise a progressive woman for her "generator" had a picture of the proper "bahuria" in her mind, perhaps because she did not have any say in her own son's marriage, she feels the need to put down her foot for "Chotey." La certainly doesn't fit the bill of that picture in her mind but if only she would look beyond skimpy (according to naniji) clothing instead of a saari and lack of sharam (shyness), she would see a girl willing to do anything for her approval.
When La comes out of the shower, she's suprised to see mami, but is disappointed Nani didn't come.

Mami is here to make friends with La, since she is a ticket to her son's wedding, but also she approves of this rich, modern, beautiful Ms.Tip Top Kashyap...that's what she wanted in her bahuria and got Payal instead, explains some of her hostility towards Payal.

Maami assures her, she is not "saasu-ma types"

Kaahe excusiyaat ho, hamse darat ho kaa? u air-conditioned kapda, dieting hame konu problem naahi...vo jara ande ke maamle me zara hot hai otherwije ekdham cool"🤣

Arnav comes to check if La needs anything, what a sweet boyfriend, La is quick answer "tumhari (yours)" with her arms swiftly thrown around him

"can you believe i wore a salwaar suit in your house? i mean woh chamkili types kapde and woh gande pom poms (those chamkili type clothes and those yukky pom poms)"
His ears have become sensitive to anything related to Khushi, even the demeaning name assigned to her and just a few minutes before, Shyam's talks of video players and rewind buttons...anything remotely related to her and his eyes go to the side and thoughts of her engulf the mind...

"actually i call her chamkili so i forget her real name"

"Khushi Kumaari Gupta" (goosebumps anyone?)

his eyes still fixated, the need to say her complete name, not out of anger this time, but more as a confirmation of the complete identity that has completely taken over him...even now right this second, until La's "whatever" (did she notice his his thought drifting?) manages to bring him back to being a considerate boyfriend...
"well mein tumse yeh kehne ke liey aaya tha ki naani ki baaton ka boora mat man, sab kuchh teek ho jaayega (i just came to tell you not to take Nani's word to heart, everything will be ok)"

"I know ASR, actually i'm just feeling bad that we're not sharing the same room" to which she gets a rather cold response "should we go ? everyone waiting."

Nani's interrogation continues during tea time bombarding questions of her cooking/tea making abilities, leaving the poor girls with no answer or no pleasing answers. Arnav once again doesn't hesitate to stick up for La,
"nani, lavanya ko ky banana aata hai, kya nahi, isse mujhe koi farq nahi padta ( Nani, it doesn't make a difference to me what she can and can't cook)"ā¤ļø
La still looking to score point with Nani, "actually mujhe teabag wali chai banani aati hai (actually i know how to make it from the teabag )
Not good enough, "agli baar bolegi ke paani upbaal na bhi na avat ha, aisan nahi chael ha yaha!"
"mere liye yeh sab important nahi hai (all this is not important to me!)" Arnav on his last nerve."

Thank goodness for Shyam😃, who knows how to handle every situation, turns everyone's attention to chaat. La's innocent remark about mineral water in the paani puri, even has Arnav smirking

as anticipated Nani takes the liberty to set her straight... Shyaam to the rescue again, "no problem, take this bhel instead, theres no water in it, its a special chaat from Lucknow

Arnav's sensitized ears up at the sound of "Lucknow", after all every flashback for her ends up in Lucknow...hamesha ke liya.

"arrey saaley-sahaab aise kya dekh rahe hai? mante hai aap Dehli waale hai aap ko Dehli pasand hai, par Lacknow ki cheez to special hoti hai, uska muqabla karna bahut mushkil hai (Saale-sahaab, i know you're from Dehli but things from Lucknow are special noone can beat it)" shyaam and his double meaning *barf*

He doesnt utter a word, but Arnav was lost again, and his sister's reminder of Khushi being from Lucknow, magnifies that one line..."khush ho jaaiye, humhamesha ke liye Lucknow jaa rahe hai"

Anjali's mention of Khushi has grabbed the attention of another man at the table, only his thoughts are impure and illegitimate. A married man, in front of his wife ponders about a girl dressed up for teej. sicko.

Two men think about the same woman, mirroring each other yet are complete opposites, one looks to the right while the other to the left. One is her destiny, the other is her disaster. wonderful setup by the makes to give us a feel for what's coming.

Buaji's "saansen ruking (breathing stopping)", and her asthma pump is put to full use due to her nieces leaving today. She tries countless times to keep them here but alas "Humne man mana liya hai" they have made up their minds...or have they?
"vaise jiji, hum abhi dubhida mein hai ki hame jaan chaahiye ya nahi (actually jiji, i'm still conflicting if we should go or not)" a very confused, indecisive Khushi due to all the games that laad governer playing with her head

Khushi forgets DM (her ā¤ļø) again, "forgive me DM, i was forgetting you again. What happening? am i doing the right thing? shayad iss liya baar baar aapki murti...(she's on to something) nahi, ab aap hi hume bataaye ki hamee kya karna chahiye? kuchh to ishaara dijiya, should stay or go?

Just then, DM's chunar flies onto her face, looks like a clear sign. a beautiful sign, the red chunnar signifies marriage, DM showing her where she belongs.

Khushi knows it means something but ignores her gut feelig. Also buaji's countless desperate attempts to stop them, i believe was also a sign, almost like DM telling her to keep trying. how many signs does this girl need?

At the Rm Nani has ordered La to make dinner, a full menu complete with "Dumb Aaloos" and Maamiji has volunteered to help out (oh boy). La in the kitchen is quiet amuzing as she tries to find "kichori" recip in her continental recipe book. A scene with some great comic relief with the help of Rahim chach and mami's hinglish šŸ˜†

Shyaam tells Arnav to take Anjali to her mandir, because he wants to check up on Khushi.

A pinch of excitement on Arnav's face when he hear his sis wants to go to Laxminagar mandir.

"Laxminagar?" while he puts the two together Laxminagar + Khushi, anajali asks "tum jaante ho na kaha par hai (you know where it is rigth?)
"Haan meian jaanta hu, meina apko le chalunga(ya, i'll take you there)"

Shyam goes to the GH and finds the lock on the door, highly disappointed "kaha ha aap khushi ji?" he goes to ask the store owner accross the street who confirms they left this morning. He regrets not listening to her and cutting the line last they spoke.

meanwhile, Arnav and Anjali are on their way. "take a right from here"
"yes di, i know"
"arrey wah" an impressed di "you know these roads? have you been here before?"

He doesn't answer, but behind those shades, flashbacks of guesthouse night are happening i'm sure.

****
The camera work done beautifully here in these last few mins of 50,
Arnav and Anjali's unawareness of this deceitful lying Shyam is captured in several ways

Anjali's trust being broken behind her back,Arnav unaware

Glimpse of a future clash
*******
Once Anjali goes into the mandir, Arnav slowly turns to look at Khushi's home with a bit of fear and hope in anticipation to find out if she really had left and sure enough a lock was there.

He looks away with a "farq nahi padta" look, but only a matter of time before he's drawn to look again and this time the moments of that night of the guest house,

how he held her, how he carried her out and bought her to this house and how she grabbed his shirt in her state of un-consciousnesses, everything that touched his heart that day and changed him forever.

Flying dupattas all around him, and one makes it way to his face,(these Duputta sure love his face, maybe they symbolize phangirls ).

Triggering yet another memory

Ever since she stormed off from the storage room, countless times his mind drifted to accessed different memories of her, but they all end with one memory, one line "hum hamesha ke liye lucknow ja rahe hai" and now seeing this lock on the door confirms his fears, she's really gone.

He can't take his eyes off of that lock. That lock is not just a lock to Buaji's house to keep thieves out, it's a lock to Khushi, to her life, which he is locked out of now. Imagining never seeing her again, never hearing her, never feeling her, never touching that innocent face...sadness and bechaini (uneasiness) runs through his body

as he stands there locked out.

DROOL CORNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ā¤ļø aaawww his first look at the GH today, fear with a bit of hope, is she really gone? ā¤ļø

Ami I so missed reading your review!!! It was just wonderful as always love your insights in red so true! pink just brilliant I agree and blue cute!!! Haha f phangirls!!

this episode was fun to watch because of la and mami ji in the kitchen!!!

this girl is totally clueless when it comes to being a domestic housewife...she does not know how to cut potatoes, onions, and a coconut ...their scene just cracked me up...mami got fed up of la cutting veggies that she told her to make the aatha...la is like i don't know that is why i am asking you...mami then said hello hi bye bye not aata but aatha...la is set to make the aata but realized her nail polish will be ruined so she decided to use spoons...mami ji is like by the time that is made, my golden jubilee will come. La was like wow congrats on being married 50 years...mami is like WOW, give the constipation🤣 later and told her to cut the coconut. La grabs a butter knife and is attempting to break the shell, then the pressure cooker makes a sounds and scares la and the knife goes into the air...where will it land...of course between the toes of mami ji...seriously if the knife was in the air i would have ran a mile away...mami ji was saying i am putting up with this girl for my son's future

in laxmi nagar, anjali sees shyam for a second and then something blocks her view and shyam is gone...so she thinks she is imagining him...once she finished her mandir she goes to arnav, who is busy staring at the GH, hoping he will get a clue to see if khushi left or not...anjali came and she is wondering why he was looking at the house...he said it is time to go to avoid the question...anjali looks at the house and wonders why arnav was lost in it...arnav calls her from behind...anjali tells him that she saw shyam here and arnav is wondering why he would be there...while driving anjali makes arnav stop the car because she sees shyam. she calls him and shyam picks up the phone...he seems super nervous. Arnav honks the horn and shyam turns around and gets scared. THen suddenly this guy comes and starts talking to shyam, he tries to get rid of the guy quickly so that the raizadas do not find out about his secret...on the phone i guess anjali stayed quiet was to see what shyam will tell her...i feel like she had some doubt on him for a brief moment. the guy leaves and anjali goes to him and asked why he is here...shyam said for work...that guy who just left is asking for help for pension for his father...and he point to some other guy, the supari selling man, and said he is working his case. Shyam said when people have a problem with money i have to hellp them because i feel bad...anjali hears this and feels proud of her hubby. Arnav spoke and said let's go. on the way to the car both arnav and shyam look at the GH...arnav was wondering if khushi left and shyam is wondering where did khushi go. in the car anjali wanted arnav to tie a chunri on car, arnav was like no and anjali said please and he agree...while looking at the chunri...arnav thought of the time he caught devi maiya in the storage room and fell on top of khushi...shyam broke his thought and offered to tie it...after he tied it both men seemed lost in thought...anjali was like we need to go home, la is cooking.

as for the Gupta scene...they were in the taxi on the way to the train station and bua ji was talking saying she will miss them...she takes out a container and payal takes it...bua ji is like this is for khushi (this scene shows that she will miss khushi the most and will miss her antics)...bua ji is like i know when you are tense you make jalebis, i don't know if these are good but i hope they will give you some peace...khushi takes the container is about to eat it...bua ji is like that is for the travel and not to eat now, save some for lucknow...khushi eats a jalebi and BAM, she gets and idea and tells the driver to turn around. They get home and she calls bedi ji but happy ji comes and khushi is asking if she could use that empty space for her mishti store...payal likes the idea because it will give some money to bua ji..and bua ji is like how did you think of this. Khushi said remember in the morning when i was asking for devi maiya to give me a sign if i am making the right decision...and then she said that devi maiya's churni landed on my head and opened my mind ( i am so happy she noticed that as a sign, i wish she noticed it quicker and not halfway to the train station) and then she said the jalebi gave me the idea to open the mishti (i am bengali, and i don't know how to spell the word in hindi) store because i can make awesome sweets. she asked bua ji for permission and she just walks away...the sister gets tense...and bua ji is like how about this name for the store (naming the store after herself)...the sister gets happy and the episode ends!!!

will the guptas become successful in opening the store???

Anita just love all in red!!! fabulous!! loved the epi too Mami and La was hilarious can La be any dumber?

jaldbaazi mein li gayi faisla hamesha galat hota hai. decisions taken in a rush are always wrong. khushi, are you listening? so you felt the pounding in your heart, the longing in your thoughts, the wanting in your veins, and when the door opened in a hot storeroom swarming with unspoken emotion you decided to bolt. the door is open khushi now, so why can't you run way?

why this jalebi mountain of hesitation? what's this ishara you seek? your father's shop is gone, your parents need you there, you've been in this city only two weeks, your first time ever, yet dilli seems to have a hold over you that your home, your lucknow is beginning to lose. hume aapse koi baat nahi karni. really?

maybe it's time to exit one doorway and enter another. the images of doors fill the episodes. time to cross the threshold to a new phase of life? always hard, but here it is and dm works hard to open your eyes, awaken your consciousness. you don't really want to go to lucknow hamesha ke liye. your hamesha is moving cities.

"hume maaf kar dijiye devi maiya, hum fir se aap ko bhoolke jaa rahe the." what's happened to me, dm, again i forget you!

there are many ways we show reluctance to do a thing, this is just one of them. a hundred impediments you create in the path, so that it need not be taken. i've done it. i remember years ago, i had to leave my home to go back to bombay to finish my studies. i didn't want to go, because my boyfriend had moved back to calcutta from bombay and the thought of leaving him was not sitting well with me at all. when we left home for the station, first i realised i'd forgotten the tickets, so we came back. my heart was heavy, there was enough time. why why? then almost at the station, i discovered i'd left my keys at home. ah i thought, now my mom and bf would have to turn back, not much time for the train's departure too.

heartless zamana, the two decided i didn't need keys to my bags, the lock could be broken once i reached. i was taken to that train... oh i know exactly how khushi's feeling. only diff, she refuses to know why.

"yeh ho kya raha hai, devi maiya, kya hum sahi kar rahe hain, ya fir... ya fir koi galat kadam utha rahe hain... kuch toh boliye na dm, kuch toh ishara dijiye." am i doing right? oh, give me a sign.

and the breeze, so long a companion of all the conspirators in this tale of love that almost wasn't, rises and lifts dm's sparkling chunari, her dupatta...

wrapping it over her face. did she remember someone's face covered in her naughty dupatta... ber sarai... storeroom... mazar, but that one only the dupatta knew and the man with hurt and anger in his eyes.

with an uncertain air, a trace of worry bordering on hysteria in her voice, fidgety movements, finding innovative ways to delay departure, khushi showed how khush she was about her decision.

a quirky, cute, khushiness to her expression of this angst.

a whole episode almost went by with details of plot thickening, comedy around lavanya, mamiji and the travails of turning la into a kitchen quoon. but bhen mami's here vy phear? we did get to the other side of that angst finally.

only, nothing quirky or cute here.

just intensity.

longing.

terrible hurt.

helplessness.

a man whose girl friend had come home to live with him only a day ago, stood helpless before a locked door. not his gf's home. he didn't say a word. none of that give ishara, what to do now, frenetic movement. nothing. in fact he stood still. at first, pretending not to care.

then ever so cautiously, almost as though wanting to shield himself from hurt, yet not being able to stop himself from looking, he turned.

how vulnerable this tall dark handsome man. always in control. ever the dominant one. yet right now, fragile... fearful... unsure of how to touch these feelings riving him.

kab se aankhen meri raha mein teri bichhi... words from a song in my head. there was also pain in his darkening orbs, pain in his breath it seemed.

he stood still. and i heard so much. his director, arshad khan, has gone on record saying the intensity and "everything" was in barun. yes, indeed it was.

sometimes i wonder does barun sobti actively create these gazes or are they just part of him? so much roil, so much depth in those eyes. staggering. my heart can't help but respond. if the job of an actor is to take us away from our immediate hard reality and help us fly our mind and heart to places of imagination, letting us free ourselves and return with freshness, look at things anew, then barun sobti does it every time for me. no idea if that is the job of an actor, but can tell you with abs honesty, this is what he gives me.

a door had closed yet he couldn't look away, he watched motionless, only eyes moving heaven and earth... rabba vey filled the air.

and she pushed him hard... the fiery girl in the guest house captured his mind. as if not content with hisvulnerability, the breeze and the dupattas got together to plague him. stir his feelings. make him realise. force him to readsigns.

she was fainting in his arms...

he was carrying her...

and then through this very doorway, he'd brought her in that night of storm and rain... this doorway that stared back at him unblinking... shut...

to lay her ever so gently on the bed, cradling her head,

and to find when he wanted to leave her, that she didn't want to let go, her hand clutched onto him.

a tenderness couldn't help but fill his heart. maybe that's precisely when his heart got caught and he never knew. how much he'd want that hand to hold on the day on the cliff. then he'd cross another threshold with her carrying her just like this... the first time ever that he'd stepped across through a doorway, her in his arms.

he stared long at this memory. but the dupattas got even more intrusive and as he caught one to move it away, storeroom returned.

her dupatta flying and caressing him, refusing to leave even though she was ranting, hurling her words at him. hamari shakal nahin dekhna chahte hain na aap... hum jaa rahein hain... hamesha ke liye...

come back, his aching gaze seemed to plead trying to push aside the curtain pf pain and open a door, walk in maybe... iss pyaar mein sahi aur galat ka koi matlab nahin... agr matlab hai toh sirf iss baat ka ki main tumse hamesha... hamesha

did she hear his call through all the breeze, the swirl of dupatta, the grip of denial? her ear leaning out wanting to catch something someone said?

Indi, when I read your review it makes me wish that IPK was still going. How incredible was this team of actors, directors, writers, crew... Your writing stirs my very soul. Sobti's eyes and his lack of words in this epi brought longing to my heart and soul. I felt his pain. Our Kushi aka Sanaya and her ignorance of her gut feelings were so believable. She wanted to stay she kept asking for a sign but chose to not get them! Brilliant again as always.
