He is the blend of arrogant but honest, direct but kind, and unsentimental but emotional! He is basically an intense guy who feels very deeply but betrayed little to the outside world! Very private and reserved! But he has a heart of gold under the hard exterior!! Such a man is hard to resist, because once you crack the code, he is yours forever!!!

Just like Darcy became Lizzy's without her even realising and him not wanting it, the SAME happened with ASR and Khushi!!! HE didn't want to fall in love! She did, but NOT with HIM! However that is exactly what happened to both!!

Falling in love with Khushi, was the only un-calculated move he made in his adult life! His life was ordered like clockwork till KKG happened to him! Then it was just a beautiful mess! She was Chaos that he started to look forward to! :)

Once in love, ASR was to die for! Once he accepted his love it was amazing to watch how he transformed from arrogant tormentor to tender lover!! He was so damned sexy as both!! Loved ASR SO much!

BS did a very good job portraying him, as in real life he is nothing like ASR! But I agree it was a dream role! A role few would be blessed to play! An impactful role! The kind that leave an impression in people's minds! ASR was no lover boy!! He was SO much more!!

Just like my love affair with Mr Darcy that started at age 9 when I first read Pride and Prejudice never ended to this date, my love affair with ASR will also continue!!

Actually I have always loved Darcy and Lizzy together! The same way I will always love ASR and Khushi together!! Why does a epic love story have to end in tragedy?? Darcy and Lizzy are the prime example of an impossible love that became possible and remained possible for the rest of their lives!!

ASR and Khushi will also fall into that category now!! That is how they deserved to be!! I am glad that in our mind they will always live their difficult love story!! :)

Hope they keep finding new names for their love!! Hamesha... Always!!

woww u have written it so perfectly.. 👏

I think that the writers knew exactly what they were doing when they wrote the characters - you cannot have such a finely defined character accidentally
In fact each character was beautifully drawn up- unfortunately somewhere they lost steam or interest in falling through

See the other post on the foils that Anjali and Khushi had created ... Again a fab job

Agree with you- I doubt we will ever find another ASR like character on Indian telly - most are such spineless wimps or silent towers of support so silent that it exasperates you

hmm.. wonderfully written... I think this is pretty much exactly how I feel..
I love Barun.. BUT I am IN LOVE WITH Arnav...

that is where the difference lies...I have always been clear about this stance of mine...
So ya it was Barun as ASR who seduced me..not Barun..

And that WAS the ONLY reason I actually fell for this show..

Khushi, and subsequently Sanaya made a place for herself much later..and while I watched the show for Arnav I started watching it for Sanaya too..

So ya it was Arnav & Sanaya that made me stick the whole way to this extent..

Sometimes i try to analyze some of the recent actors if they had played the role of ASR.
I seriously dont think other than Gurmeet who has intense eyes but lacks some of the facial nuances, could have played ASR to perfectio.
Again anyone can play the role, but the different is about breathing life into the role and living the part
Like SRK in Chak de.

I do watch Qabool hai once in a while and sometimes wonder if Barun had played the role of Asad how would it have been.
Personally think he would have done more justice.

I really would like to commend Gul and the PH for grooming and styling Barun. I think that was something if done better in BHPH could have added the cherry on the cake for Sharavan's portrayal

I started watching show for Khushi then fell in love with ASR and once story went down the drain I watched it only for Barun !
For me ASR and Barun both were equally responsible for seducing the audience!!

I started watching the show for both because their chem was amazing. But later I discovered Barun and I was already in love with ASR. But then ASR is just a role Barun plays. And I love both! For me, if there hadn't been for Barun, ASR wouldn't have been so successful.

So credit goes to Barun!

I have been watching some old episodes and some other serials to understand why I got addicted to IPK. Here is part 1 of my reason. Part 2 is Khushi and in this case the actress did make a difference because he character, though it started out strong, lost its was. But the actress made all the difference in keeping us glued.

Here goes...

One of the real reasons why ASR was such a powerful character was because he was such a modern man. He was guy of today: he knew his mind and was not afraid to speak it out. He was mostly progressive and non interfering kind of guy, self-made to boot and very dependable. Brother, aunt, in-laws'all could depend on his. Hell even ex-girl friends and sis in laws could depend on him without him coming across as a pushover even once. Do your thing and I will do mine, was his motto. The new characters on TV don't seem to be about that. Nothing irritates me more than a man who says "you are my sis/ mother/ bro/ wife hence you cannot do this because I forbid it or I know best. And that is why no matter who plays that role; the character just does not endear you like ASR did. I don't think the writers even realized how much of a strong character they were creating and why a modern/ progressive women could not help but be attracted to him.

Also, his relations with women except for Khushi were wonderfully defined. He was respectful but could not be manipulated. He stood his ground against older women, indulged his sister beautifully and let his girlfriend be. He was kind to his sister in law and when he accepted that he loved Khushi, he was the best boyfriend/lover you could ask for. I mean all the flirting scenes and remarriage scenes were to die for.

His famous scene with Nani when he tells I will not marry and I want to be with Lavanya without marriage was fantastic as was his scene with Dadi when he tells he Khushi is my wife and if she has no place in this room then I do not want to be here either or when he says Khushi can do what she wants in this house. Very seldom do you see such characterization of a man in telly serials. I have been trying to watch some soaps off late to see if any man matches up but not really. Standing their ground without being rude or being sacrificial lambs just does not happen in serials does it?

His relationship with Anjali was well define and very, very touching. He is the younger sibling and yet the way he takes care of her and how he indulges her every whim with minimal protests was super. You could argue that it was borderline incest but that only happened when the writing was bad. Initial few months it was clear that he was a devoted brother. His attitude towards his jijaji was nicely shown too. He knew jijaji was imp to sister, hence to be accorded respect. Well portrayed.

Lavanya relationship was a little more complex. She was his girlfriend who wanted to be more. Most times he did tell her be yourself. Do not change for my family. That is modern thinking. That is about accepting Lavanya for who she was initially. But when Lavanya decides to change, even then he does not interfere with her relationship with his family. It was a goal that Lavanya set up for herself. ASR did not ask her to. So there was no question of helping her or defending her. It was her choice and her cross to bear. I like that. Very precise thinking. Also I liked the way he was honest with her the minute he realized what was really happening in his heart and had accepted it.

His relationship with Payal, Mamiji, Garima, Shashi and Buaji was touched upon briefly yet once again he was respectful and caring. Who would not like that in a guy? Sure he could have defended Payal a little more, and told Mami to back off but surely that was Aakash's job.

Khushi: well this is tough relationship to talk about. This is where he was most unlike himself because he was most involved her when he did not want to be. So in way it was easy to understand his OTT behavior. While quite a lot of it was not right, and quite barbarous, at least there was a reason behind it'he did not want to fall in love and certainly not with a woman like Khushi who was his anti-thesis in every way. But even in all this nastiness, there were moments of pure guilt, regret, caring and compassion that were hard to miss and disassociate with his real nature. And when he turned around (remarriage and after) he did show Khushi how much he loved her. There were many blips (but that is poor writing again) but in the end all I can say is that much of IPK's success lies in how ASR was written.

i absolutely completely love this post...you spoke my heart right out
even i also gave it a thought that why was i not interested in other serials in which barun acted previously...i guess thats bcz the character itself wasnt this powerful and perfect like ASR
nd thats why i fell in love with ASR's character nd nt barun

yess ofcourse i don't deny the fact that barun did full justice and made ASR exactly how he was supposed to be

i hardly watched any daily soaps.. but truly this one was absolutely different...so glad i came across this :D

Very nicely written. Agree with what you said. ASR made Barun and Barun did full justice to his role. He made the character come to life. Having said that it's quite possible another actor could have done the same. I for one wouldn't have minded it.

There is no doubt there are many actors who couldve played this character and audience also would get used to that face. however, it wouldnt have reached as now with ASR enacted by Barun, because he added some attitude and histrionics even with mouth shut but conveyed what ASR is thinking. we won't even be able to identify this many dimensions of ASR without those several small things Barun put together to the character.
