I suppose this is a never ending dicussion: what went wrong with IPKKND? No matter how much of a diehard IPK fan you are, you cannot deny IPK has had one of the worst tracks, and characterizations. The first 8-9 months were brilliant. That show was IPK, the show which became an international hit. Everything about it was phenomenal. But after that, I couldn't recognize it. They destroyed it completely. I feel many things caused the downfall for it, amongst which are:
- Poorly written storyline
- Inconsistency in characterizations and storyline
- Too many spoilers
- Experimentation
- Relying on the leads too much
- Too much concern for what the viewers have to say
Storyline: "Nafrat pas aane na de, Mohabbat door jane na de" <--- This was the tagline for the show. Did they stick to it till the very last episode? No. The concept of the story was brilliant. The angry guy and bubbly girl concept has been done many times before but IPK was different. It created what no other show before had. This show had a lot of potential. They had two brilliant lead actors, with an equally brilliant supporting cast. They started off so well but lost it midway.
Inconsistency: Not only in the storyline but also in characterizations. I think it's safe to say, Khushi was the most inconsistent character? One minute, she would be bold, fierce and intelligent - the Khushi we fell in love with - and the other, she would be a senseless OTT character. A character we all once loved, became the character that would make us cringe. There was absolutely no consistency there. It is hard to believe the Khushi who came with the brilliant plan to expose Shyam, was the same one we saw during the disastrous Sheetal track. Speaking of the Sheetal track, what was the need of comedy in this track? When you are suspecting your husband of having an illegitimate child, do you really do the senseless things Khushi did? This track also had potential. Though many of us were against it, had they carried this out well, it would have gotten us decent TRPs.
Spoilers: I dont blame the spoiler givers, they were doing their job, but really, they were not needed. What annoyed me more were the members constantly asking for those. And no, you cannot say "oh you could have ignored the spoilers if you didnt want to see them" Lets face it, any topic with the word "spoiler" in its title, is very hard to ignore! Plus, we would have 10 other topics on that one spoiler. It would happen many times, the suspense of the future track would be ruined because of their spoilers, resulting in many boycotting the show till the track ended, because we didnt like how it was going to be. I know I was actually looking forward to the Sheetal track to find out what it will be like, but we were told from the beginning that she was a negative character, pretending to be Aarav's mother. That ruined it. Sometimes, a little suspense is actually good! We would have gotten to know of the storyline anyway, so what was the need for spoilers?
Experimentation: This was really annoying. Wasn't Khushi suppose to get bit by a scorpian? And wasn't she suppose to be shot? What was with the CVs constantly experimenting with different tracks? I got really fed up when I would hear about a really good track and Mishti or someone else would come and say, "oh they changed the track, they will be doing something else so please keep watching!" Post marriage track would have rocked, right after I remember, we heard about the scorpian track. Many people predicted that Khushi would get bitten, be in critical condition, and that would be how Arnav and Khushi come closer. But instead, they changed it and gave us "101 ways to annoy Arnav Singh Raizada" đ„±
Relying on the leads: It started off with all the characters getting proper screen space. Mamaji, Mami, Anjali, Naani, Payash, the Guptas, everyone came on screen even if it was just a for a few minutes, every character got their screenspace. But then, it was all about Arnav Khushi. I love Barun and Sanaya but I don't want to see them for 25 minutes, 5 days a week! What about Mama and Maami? Payash? They got married and we could have had an amazing post marriage track for them. Their story could have been developed and Akshay and Deepali wouldnt have complained for the lack of screenspace they got. Where did Mamaji go? Instead of bringing in useless characters like Bubbly and Masala mama (where did he go?) they couldnt have shown family scenes between Mama, Maami and Akash, Payal? That could have been a parallel track. Barun complained saying that he is tired. Instead of ending the show, why not reduce his screenspace and utilise the side characters? Why make Sanaya be in every scene? These two lead actors were used way too much!
Viewers: Why were they so concerned with what we had to say? It's completely fine to take feedback from the viewers', infact they should. We make or break this show. We could have easily switched to another show but we stuck to IPK. But they paid us a bit too much attention. Who told Gautam Hedge to go online and write an open letter, defending himself and the CVs/PH? Instead of doing that, he could have used that time to write a damn script! Everytime a good track would start, a bunch of viewers would protest against it, and in a couple of days, the track would end and something else would be shown. The sudden endings, the fast paced tracks left us confused and annoyed. Why couldn't they just alter the track a bit, if the viewers meant that much to them? Why end it altogether? We were practically doing their job for them. If the viewers weren't happy, it would end, if they were, the track would continue. Who were the CVs? Them or us? But then they proved that they couldn't write a script when they went online and wrote "the story has run its course" and asked for ideas. Who does that? Many shows run out of ideas but they dont tell the viewers that! The unprofessionalism of this PH and the CVs is highly disturbing!
IPK was a phenomenal show. It didn't become an international hit for no reason. It had an amazing concept with two of the best actors as its leads: Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani. They brought the characters ASR and KKG to life, who clicked with the audience, and their chemistry was undeniable. I wish this show had maintained the essence it began with, and the characters weren't butchered.
It doesn't hurt that the show ended. The show was bound to end sooner or later. What hurt is that a show which had so much potential, had two phenomenal actors, such an amazing concept, came down to this. Swami? Miss India? 101 ways to annoy Arnav Singh Raizada? Really?
Whatever happened to this?
