Ooh la la; another one? Am I not on a roll? Anyhoo, another one inspired by one of my favorites.
Song: Afterglow [INXS]
| Afterglow |
Here I am, lost in the light of the moon
That comes through my window
A soft snore nudged Khushi out of her deep sleep. She clenched her hazel eyes as she tried to hold onto that blisful sleepy feeling, but it left her too soon.
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divide
The thorns from the roses, its you and the roses
Stifling a yawn, she rose on her elbows to detect the source of noise.
Aah.
Her husband.
Arnav's six foot frame lay sprawled upon the jade recliner at the foot of the bed. His arms were akimbo; one resting over his face while the other drooped low and brushed the floor.
The sleek laptop lay abandoned and a faint light beeped annoyingly. It was an indicator that it was on hibernation mode.
Lucky laptop.
Khushi sighed and threw back the duvet. She stretched and grimaced at the cracking sounds that resounded as a result of her reaction. With a tired smile lifting her lips, she walked silently towards her husband.
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow as I let you go
Like a nymph, she made no sound as she kneeled beside the recliner and began to gather the coffee mug and the laptop. Although it shouldn't have come as a surprise when she got up to see her husband's eyes wide open.
"Hey."
His greeting melted her heart as he formulated the syllable in his sleep softened voice. She smiled in reply and walked forward to arrange herself over his lean chest.
"Hey yourself"
Her husband smiled at her whisper and leaned in closer. His warm brown eyes-the eyes she loved with all her being, twinkled lightly at her.
I will find my way when I see your eyes
Now I'm living in your afterglow
He didn't say anything after that, merely continued to observe her face. Khushi didn't complain. She too, captured this chance to admire her husband.
Here I am, lost in the ashes of time
But who wants tomorrow?
His face was a dream of so many artists. A muse people would die to look at. There was an imperfection to his beauty that made him all the more perfect.
Wasn't it the reason she loved him?
Never had Khushi met such a contradictory man. One who professed to hate children, but donated millions to orphanages around the world. One who refused to believe in God, but was a driving force behind the langars at her local Gurudwara.
In between the longing to hold you again
I'm caught in your shadow, I'm losing control
Arnav looked back soberly at her, almost as if he understood what she was thinking. Her hands went to stroke his chiseled face, and trace the miniscule scar that marred his intelligent forehead.
They called him the youngest business genius in more than a decade.
And they were right.
My mind drifts away, we only have today
Khushi's fingers lay lightly over his lips, and a slight giggle left her as he planted a kiss over her fingers.
Her husband was an amazing kisser.
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow as I let you go
Her hands went lower and ran a sensual path from one collar bone to another. She rested her fingers on his broad shoulders and smiled as he dropped his head back.
Her husband carried so many burdens on his strong shoulders.
I will find my way, I will sacrifice,
'til the blinding day when I see your eyes
Khushi went further still and relaxed as she touched upon her desired destination. Her husband's heart. It beat strongly underneath the tips of her fingers, reminding her of the strength and vitality Arnav possessed. The sound was so melodious to her. She could live by the sound of his heartbeat. His heart.
Her husband possessed a heart of gold.
Now I'm living in your afterglow
When the faith has gone as I let you go, as I let you go
Khushi placed her ear over his chest and closed her eyes. She felt her husband laugh, and the rumble shook her body in a light manner.
Touch me and I will follow in your afterglow
Heal me from all this sorrow as I let you go
He was the antidote to her poison, the flower to her thorns. He was the dream to her nightmares and the joy to her pain.
I will find my way, I will sacrifice
Now I'm living in your afterglow
The reason she lived, the reason she laughed.
Bathed in blue, the walls of my memory divides
The thorns from the roses, it's you who is closest
Arnav was, what no one else could ever be.
Her Afterglow.
