the breakup trend that backfire and leaps taken

a couple of days back there was an article that TV serials tend to follow a trend, for a couple of weeks it has been miscarriages and abortions, when one serial shows a kidnapping other serial follow suit, the track gets repeated in other serials too give or take a couple of weeks.

Presently the trend is that popular couples, or leads are separating or there is a fall out between couples, it has happened in

Pavitra rishta- Arjune/ Poorvi,

Punar vivah- Yash/ Arthi are having a rift between them

Phir subah hogi- Vickram/ subni have parted

Hitler Didi- Rishi/Indra are not together anymore

Na bole tume na maine kuch kaha – Mohan/ Megha are on the verge of being torn apart.

Is Iss pyaar ko kya naam doon with Arnav /Khushi be next in line.

I have seen that compared to other serials people are very possessive when is comes to Arnav Khushi relationship. even a hint of trouble in paradise, makes the views go crazy, and the threats and bashing starts. Everyone from Anjali to the CV's bear the wrath or the viewers. Shayam receives hate mail, Arnav is given dressing down for not understanding Khushi, or not standing by her. people threaten to stop watching the show.

But is a breakup really necessary to earn TRP. People hate it when their favourite couple are not together, and after a while stop watching the show, this forces the CV's to then take a leap, to keep the serial running and get the people to come back to watch the show. eg Pavitra Rishta-Manav/Archana- broke up- the serial took an 18 year leap.

Uttaran-Veer/Ichaah- separated the serial took an 18 year leap,

Bade acche laggte hai- Ram/Priya separated the serial took a 6, 7 year leap

Parichay – Kunal/Siddi separated the serial took a 9 year leap.

Latest to follow suit is Hitler Didi- Rishi/ Indra have parted and the serial has taken an 8 year leap

People hate it when their favourite couple and not together, so why do the PH and CV's insist on following such a trend. Its quite irritating when this happens. this has happened in older serials as well, Kasam sa, Kis desh mai hai mera dil, and other i cant remember.

Splitting up a couple is a formula for disaster really. I have stopped watching shows when the couple separate and then come back and watch when there is as inking that they will get back together. i hope that IPKKND does not follow this trend, especially at this juncture, there is so much in the story to be explored at the moment, especially the exposure of Shayam. People love to see love conquer all, and after Khushi and Arnav have been to so much people would love to see them working together to expose Shayam once and for all, to see them spend some happier times together as husband and wife. IPK has an Ace that people love and that is to see Shayam fail, and unwittingly play cupid to Arnav and Khushi like non of the other family members. Be it the first marriage, the kidnapping, now the miscarriage, etc. Of all the names that Shayam is called he is also called cupid, isn't that ironic. He tries to separate them and they come closer together. they say "i love you" and risk their lives for each other, and become one another's support system. viewers want to stand up and applaud.

Sometimes i feel that not Shayam but Anjali is the villain, as she is the one who tends to keep our Ashi apart and not Shayam. People love to see twist in failed plans by the villain. And not twist in two people in love coming together.

What do you people think?

PS: this is not based on a formal study, of TV trends or TRP's. just personal observation. and may or may not be true in TV trends or statistics.

a very nice post...but i hope, here cvs tend to prove all wrong!

IPK should become trend-setter rather than trend-follower!

If IPKKND prides itself in being unique, then I don't understand their logic of going with trend? Can a show not do without cruelty and negetivity? it sucks.

I would be ok with a separation track because IPK is mohhabbat door jane na de and nafrat pass aane na de.

What i don't like is leap. So it would be great if they showed that after Khushi leaves - she gets a job and makes a good living. Arnav meets her in her office - buys the place - tries to win her back - both of them try to stay away but can't because they are just too attracted...

But no leap - not even of 4 months
