There are cases that girl are married at the age less than 18 also (if the alliance is Good or if there is sick grand parent who wish to witness the grandchilds wedding before dying etc.). So 18year is not a shocking news. Moreover, in India, if girls marriage is broken at the alter, it is really difficult to get another groom even if they are well to do and the parents are their to care. But in Anjali's case both were missing, so her marriage with Shyam might be after several years.
