No you are right in your view. Abortion can be equal to murder because you are stopping the heart beat of a living being. And that child has the right to live and make its own decisions. But this is one of those things that you can never be so sure of.

And as for me, its cold logic. Why make the child suffer? Why make Anjali go through it? Why should the child be blamed for Shyam's sin? These are questions that inevitably crop up in my mind. If the child is safe, and Shyam's truth comes out, at one point or the other, if the child does something wrong, it will be said, "you're like your father." It is the sad truth of your society and human nature. It happened to Arnav, and it will happen to the child.

A child pays for its father's sin. Arnav and Anjali are. And so is everyone around them.

I remember once I read the most heart wrenching thing about abortion ever. It was a set of 'diary entries' made by the baby at various stages of pregnancy. It ended with a plea from the baby, asking its mother what it had done that was so wrong that it deserved this painful punishment. If I wasn't against abortion before that, I definitely was after. Every child has a right to live. Abortion should only be considered in extenuating circumstances (rape, incredibly severe disability, etc.)

Is social stigma ever a justification for abortion? Yes, Arnav is suffering for his father's deeds, but at least Arnav had a life of his own. An unborn child never has that opportunity and it isn't fair on the child to not even have a shot of life. If you bring the child up with willpower and love, what other people say will have no impact on them. Sadly, people live for society rather than for themselves.
