The reason Anjali is dressed as a bride

That's because for a godbharai you're supposed to dress in your bridal clothes. After all, that's when you officially got permission to do it, and that's what led to this godbharai. Marriage led to this day, otherwise, horror of horrors, how would you ever have a child?!
Its not a custom I particularly like or agree with, but just wanted to share that this is how this function happens.
After you've been given all the gifts/blessings, in some communities, the girl takes a bath/changes her clothes, and then she has to put on a fresh pair of clothes, preferably new ones. That's when she can take the bridal wear off. Imagine wearing heavy clothes and jewellery when you're pregnant.
Also, as far as I know, this is true only of the first kid. People don't have godbharai for the second kid, or do they?

Thanks for responding.
I'm not too sure about the important bit. I think rituals should be a part of life and subordinate to human situations. For instance, the family should right now be thinking of the Anjali - Shyam relationship, and of getting Anjali to move beyond her loss rather than of carrying out the ritual. However, I just wrote this post to explain why she is dressed the way she is.
