Hey Rima, a very thoughtful post. Gosh, we spend so much of our time thinking and analysing a fiction, a mere television show. Yet to some , we are not true, IPK fans.

The show caters to a younger audience. This audience usually catches the episodes on the internet. So one of the reasons why we have a poor TRP compared to other shows.

Secondly, it needs to widen its horizons. It is a hit with the younger crowd, it holds no appeal for the slightly older generation. I have many people working at my office, and we of course discuss different TV shows over our coffee breaks, I am yet to meet someone who watches IPK. (So now you know why I joined IF, to vent out my frustration about the show) .

It needs to widen its horizon. It has been limiting itself to the younger crowd. But by widening its horizon to cater to the needs of the larger audience, I am not implying that there should be the usual saut / saas- bahu tracks.

The mature audience wants a little more meat. By meat again I don't imply intimate scenes. The mature audience wants a logical treatment of the story. A story which is fast moving and a story where they could at least relate to the characters and their emotions.

It is very important for the audience to identify itself with the characters. Because that is what binds the audience to the show. the moment they stop identifying with characters; they stop watching the show. Because there isn't much to look forward to in the show for them

You can fool the audience once but you can't fool them always. You can't play with their emotions. Because as an audience they are investing not only their time but also their emotions. Once this trust is broken, it becomes hard to repair the bond. And audience nowadays is very fickle. It is almost impossible to stop the audience from touching the remote. It is almost impossible to get their attention specially with a wide selection being offered to cater to different needs of the audience.

The reason why the show appealed to all was because it catered to the fantasy of the audience. We all dream of a grand passion. A grand romance. And it hardly ever becomes true. So it catered to the inner need of the viewers of having a grand romance. And since they tend to identify with the characters, they were fulfilling their own dreams of having a grand passion. We all are actually living a dream here through the show, of being swept off our feet in love, of a love that conquers all, a romance of living happily ever after.

But with the change of tracks and unnecessary deviations, the show is now in a mess. It has lost its focus. It has lost its direction. The initial plot is somewhere lost in the many sub plots. Perhaps if the CVs try to stick to their original plot line, we might not lose everything and we might actually win all that is lost. Perhaps all is not lost, with the Cvs redeeming themselves with ASR's "I am sorry for everything, Khushi." Maybe they are taking baby steps before that giant leap forward. (And no I am definitely not talking about Ekta's generation leap here)😆

wish i cud reply in detail . but hav a train to catch
yes IPK needs to make things meater for the older more mature audience who want sense and not just sensation

Once again, bang-on post Rima.👏

Yes, there are just different perceptions floating around and that doesn't make anyone a lesser or a bigger fan of the show or the actors! That's the idea of public forums and a free World! Thanks for making this post.

Obviously all of us are into the first 185 -- writing things on a DVD is a simple process actually.

The thing is it is time consuming. All these videos are on Youtube -- actually better than what we get here in the US because our feed is SD not HD and they are 4:3 not 16:9 which SP became after launching the show.

I have stuff on my DVR but I tend to watch directly from Youtube. There is obviously software to download these videos and then combining them and writing them on a disk is a simple thing -- there is software for that -- the problem is the software writes it on to the disk at the same pace as the videos running and since these are epis, we need to monitor them every 20 mins. A total of 70+ hours of video which means about 23 DVDs -- and about 70+ hours in front of the computer.

I may actually try to find a highschool kid to do this -- if I am successful, I will let you know. The kid can make a cool $500 from this -- I am already bargaining in my head!

Cheers.
