Hey Annie...how are ya...I must say my soujourn into I-F has broadened my acronym database!!! All save PA (that said in my sexiest possible voice)
It took me sometime to cotton on to BS...and now i am afraid when someone in my "real" life says what BS ...I am nonplussed for a bit...and this may lead people to think i am but sowly loosing it...(not that i ever had 'it' b4)
I must say i have a very vast tolerance to language...and do try and understand what the person is getting at afterall it is but a medium of communication...there was a time i would get on my high horse re grammatical errors...et al...and have the habit of correcting people mid sentance if tense or proper terminolgy is not used...(i still do with my children)...a habit inherited from my mother...
I remember the first...holiday after boarding school in India...I had picked up ya an addage to any sentance...as in what ya? why ya? no ya! yes ya!...mum was beside herself...she broke it down ya is shortened form of yes...so you keep saying what yes...no yes...yes yesπŸ˜†
when i read your post i was so taken back in time and can still here my mom...(thanx for preempting that journey back in time)...
while id donot have any pet peeves...of late I have been having ...a few hilarious moments desiphering certain posts and put it down to my ignorance...
esp the spoiler ones...oh well ...is my age telling..???????
ps
my spelling is atrocious and am known for my typos...and here in the forum I hardly ever proof read...assuming you get the gist of what i am trying to say...sorry if it rubs you up the wrong way...and keeps buzzing in your ear like the errant fly that will not go away...but i do luv ya...πŸ˜ƒ

Nice post!
Well I usually am adapted to the text language, because I'm usually texting! And Its kind of irritating when you have to write something properly and then you change it into text language! πŸ˜›
This ussually happens to me, once i was having my exam and the teacher comes upto me and goes like what are you writing, and I'm like umm...English! πŸ˜† Then I understood what she meant! πŸ˜› I Changed the "You's" to U, the "Why"s to Y, The "Because" to becuz and yeah, it was all wrong! I had to write all that again! 🀒
And the truth is that bold because in the first line...I accidentally wrote it "cuz" πŸ˜›

But apart from that, I dont mind text language, but I hate when people write the wrong spelling of words. Its just Wrong. And If your above 8th Grade, then you have to spell your words Write!

The "Thud! I'm dead" part in your post, i guess ppl use it as an Idiom, or just say it sarcastically to mean how ASR was looking so Hot! πŸ˜›

And thats all! 😊
Btw or By the way, great post! πŸ˜†

Annie,
What a wonderful topic again. I wont call you a snob when it comes to English language, but reading your posts and the vocabulary you use some times do intimdate me. This is not a bad thing. Your words and their placements is out of this world and I said that many times.
I admit, I try to check the spelling of the words I use in posts and replies but don't do it for every post or reply. So there are many times where my posts will read like I am murdering the language. I also try to make words out of thin air (or it would seem so). So when I myself am guilty of such butchering, I hardly can blame others for doing the same.
I also tend to play with words and try to spin them to make them look funny because, I am inherently a goofy loopy person. So in that aspect as well, I know I might rub people who love the language in the wrong way.
I will give an example. In US there is a Food Network Chef Rachael Ray. She keeps coming up with words. basically she joins two words and come up with one. This started with the common naming of celebrity couples with one word. Barngelina, Bennifer Etc.
Just like we have ArHi here which is a combination of Arnav + Kushi. We also have Hirutam which I coined which is a combination of Hiru + Gautam.πŸ˜›πŸ˜‰
Rachel Ray calls something she cooks Stoup and her definition of stoup is thicker than a soup and thinner than a stew and hence a stoup. My friend, who loves the language as much as you do, become livid while watching her. I on the other hand chuckle and my friend gets mad at me for chuckling instead of getting mad. She even once said, the fact that you find her creating her own words funny should make me whack you on the head. My response, take a chill pill and then had to run as she hates that phrase!!!
What I am trying to say in my own jibberish way is like Tangy, I can tolerate any type of language, be it spoken or written. The only time I find it intolerable is when people write officail emails in such language at a work place. Other than that, since I am guilty of butchering the language now and then, I usually don't mind someone else doing the same.
When sending a telegram, once upon a time (no I am not that old), sentences were condensed and only the most important messages to convey the news were used. Grammar was not of utmost importance. Reason I bring this up is whether it be Instant Messages or Texting, sending the thought becomes more important than typing up fully laid out grammatically correct sentence.
Once upon a time the keys on a black berry were smaller than the sharp end of a needle and it became necessary for many to try to type as less as possible but convey as much as possible. Some know where and when to use that type of written language and some use the same everywhere. So like La and others said, technology whether ancient or modern created an avenue for people to convey messages using the fewest words to a sentence (telegram) and fewest letters to a word (modern texting ur for your).
I don't even know I made sense and I almost feel a bit impish to post this when so many others agreed with you and this may come out as a diagreement.
No mtr wht u no I lub u, dontcha??πŸ˜›πŸ˜‰

@ Loopy...I like how u say once upon a time and then black berry in the same sentance and above that we hear about telegrams...amazing how things seem to be spiralling...
so is it true with language...so much that would not have been tolerated in the past...so many colloqiulism that were a no no in written lang have now become part of the dictionary itself...and have erned a new dictionary the urban dictionary...(i must confess i am quite the stranger to it)...
Grammer once and integral part of schooling has almost become optional...to those who want to follow it in their future and specialise...
Also being multiligual...and always learning new languages i am so aware of my own faux pas...and how utterly wrong i do sound...at the beat of times...
and no loopy you are not the only one swaying a bit in the opposition...the only difference is you are joining be for a change today...i seem to be against the grain of late...πŸ˜†
but dispite it all Annie and the gals show thier luv...
btw interesting debate aout fans and fanatics have you given your take...

I love what you write. Everything you say, brings a smile to my face. What a colourful personality! Thank you very much for always always making me giggle. Every time I read your post , my ego takes a hike. You see, I swear I am aging , menopausing , growing white hair and worse my son is beginning to look like a man! So its great for my mini ego when I read "my beauties". So thank you!. But I must say the "Thud ! I am dead !" entertains me greatly.

Good Morning lovely ladies! It is Monday already and I am half way to my work place. I am suffering from Monday blues. Coming back to the post, I am guilty as charged. I have a lot of typing errors, specially more so now with me logging in from phone. So yes, I plead guilty. I have to be careful of the spellings and grammar. Now coming back to few posts on IF, initially I had trouble comprehending them, I still do, but I am highly amused by them. Though I must confess that the forum has broadened my vocabulary both in Hindi and English. I am still not comfortable calling Shyam "Snake-wa". I think it is very insulting to the man portraying the character. No it isnt my love for Abhaas making me so righteous. I thank the forum for teaching me words like hottie, hotwa, bashing, arhilicious etc. πŸ˜† though I havent dared to use them in real life specially for official purpose. I would be shown the door for sure if I dare use them at work.
