Sorry, dears, can't help... in Malaysia, Astro cable tv only has Zee (yes, that's right, 1 channel only, and backdated episodes too!) and how *bleep* is that?! Singapore's Starhub is so much better! Astro should learn a thing or two from neighbouring countries especially since we fork out hundreds of RMs (that's Ringgit Malaysia and not Raidaza Mansion, people! 😆) to watch the *bleep* programmes that is thrown down out throats daily... so not fair!
Anyways, I watch IPKKND on youtube... sigh... 😔

I think people have misunderstood the thing. The article says TRPs do not matter in an international setting... not that opinions of international audience don't matter. They are two diff things.
TRPs are not an opinion poll per se. They are the ratings of a show measured in India that decide how much of revenue from sponsors the channel can get. And based on this TRP system, the channel gets more sponsors and more sponsors means more profits.
When they say TRPs do not matter as far as the international audience, what they mean is the TRP system is used in India and not applicable internationally. Instead they get most of their revenues from the international audience in the form of subscription charges... and not based on TRPs.
Edit: If they have no consideration for international viewers, why would they send Sanaya to promote the show in UK?

And if TRPs are a way of determining whether a show should be scrapped or not, then international audience should be counted, especially since shows like IPKKND are followed internationally as well as nationally; whereas shows like DABH are mostly followed in India.

Yes, sponsors are the ads. The reason Star doesn't bother to measure any kind of ratings internationally for ads is because the revenues they get from these ads are not thar high/imp internationally. Whereas in India, the system is such that most of their revenues are from these sponsors, and hence this over-dependence on TRPs.
Another thing is this TRP system isn't a very correct system; it takes into account only 8000 homes... it doesn't even consider the whole of India, so its bit too much to expect it to consider the international audience.
Here is a link to an article that talks about the TRP issue:
http://www.rangmunch.tv/index.php/writers-gully/reflections-menu/item/1055-indian-gec-trp-grp-woes
The point about the ad revenues come in the last para... but I have quoted the relevant sentence below:
"Globally, in most countries, TV channels earn 70% of its revenue from its subscription and only 30% from advertising. In India, the revenue split is exactly the reverse, with 70% of the channel revenues coming from advertising."
So the thing is whether for the international or Indian viewers... it is unfortunate when good shows get scrapped of due to low TRPs.
