Ok, so just caught the episode, without holding any expectations, and I must say, I absolutely loved it! A breather of an episode which gave us snapshots of "a day in the life" of each household. The kind of episode which allows us to peek at each character from a distance, observing them for who and what they are.
It's this small attention to detail in which much is revealed about each individual character that I love, and which gives us the pleasure of connecting with them.
This episode, we saw:
NK - reading a book (finally, a drama which showcases normal hobbies!) and showering his love on his cousin, being a good friend by sending his birthday wishes to Khushi and helping nanav out with a plan, knowing both his friend and his cousin all too well - their reactions and their stubbornness! Love that NK knew her birthday, love little tidbits like this, makes characters more relatable and consistent.
Naani - knitting away on the sofa and taking an interest in Arnav's life, fulfilling her duties as an elder, giving sound advice when and as needed
Maami - going into the kitchen for some snacks, feeding her petty demands, creating trouble for Payal and her son.
Anjali - In bed, sleeping away her troubles, isolating herself from RM activities, emphasising her heartbreak - continually reminding us of her sadness and despair. I sympathised with her character today, especially at her reaction over the flowers. True, she thought they were from Shyam, but she also loved the idea that they were from her 'chote', the very chote who would always shower her with love and affection and would undoubtedly put her first - though after last night's episode, I wouldn't be surprised if she starts becoming shaky about her position in Arnav's life; must be feeling really insecure at the moment. And though the flowers were meant for Khushi, I'm glad Arnav chose not to disclose it to her, at least not now. Hmm, their relationship is going to get real interesting!
Akash - Busy being an ass...I meant a dutiful husband, son, brother; work taking over his life, having to eat canteen food, rebuking his wife for not getting her priorities sorted, concerned about his sister's welfare
Payaal - busy being a submissive wife and daughter in law, a caring sister who remembers to cook Khushi's favourite sweets!
Buaji - Busy defending her sanka devi, pampering her, warding off evil - rebuking, testing and humouring Arnav, dishing out her views marital rights and wrongs (an idiot's guide to being the best husband/wife)
Garima & Babuji - Being proud parents, showing their blessing on both daughter and son-in-law, speaking up for Arnav, Babuji looking on at Arnav affectionately whilst sat at the dinner table
Khushi - Busy being a dutiful wife, daughter, sister and daughter in law, a friend - and she does her best to fulfil all roles, even if it is in her own little way. Humouring her Buaji, affectionately feeding her father some water and wiping his mouth, running riot in her speech and mannerisms - the return of sanka devi whilst being at home, anger and hurt clearly etched onto her face, but also eager to receive best wishes from her husband. When the time comes, she'd readily accept his apologies and would be willing to forgive him, regardless of how much of a devil he is! Her rant about the bag and how expensive it was, her daily shopping and not being able to resist the charms of decent priced vegetables, her lecture on bags and it's usage, making him believe that she doesn't value such a bag, yet clearly she cares about it, knowing that his hard earned money was spent on it! Love how she went to clean it up after saying it's the only bag that (behna shuru kare) leaks the way it does! 😆 It gave us a glimpse of their everyday interactions to come as a married couple - sweet and playful, yet equally intense and pacifying!
Arnav - Being a dutiful son-in-law and trying his best to be a loving husband, one that seeks to gift Khushi with his heart and to woo her back into his life by way of making amends. His interactions with people of the GH was sheer delight, light hearted and fun. His expressions were cracking! Again, the little things we learnt about his character, his bold determination in making it up to people who matter, his inability to utter words of well wishes, his practicality in looking up ideas for birthday surprises, his sarcasm and laddishness when talking to NK, his childish pouting *hands folded in a huff and puff* when being rebuked by Buaji, his sweet smiles when observing Khushi from afar, learning more about her each time; her loving and playful attitude towards her family. Each time her visits the GM I swear I see Arnav/ASR falling in love over again!! And as always, it's all in the expressions!
There's very few dramas which gives us this pleasure, and I intend on enjoying every single minute of it!
It was a much needed episode if you ask me - far from being a filler, not only did it serve to slice the cutting tension and high voltage drama of the past few episodes, which was, in all honesty, becoming rather exhausting, but it also returned our focus onto the original foundations of IPK, as well as hinting at the future tracks. The balance between seriousness and comedy; and it seems they're looking to strike that balance once more! Bring. It. On!
