The scene at the Raizada mansion was one of devastation as if a tornado had swept through it. In one day each member's life had changed irrevocably and irreversibly. None were spared. And in the middle of it all stood Arnav Singh Raizada looking at the shambles of what had once been a fairly happy household around him. He himself has not come through it unscathed. It has brought down a pillar in his life, his beloved Di. But another pillar, equally battered emotionally and physically stood with him, helping him hold up this family - his wife and his equal partner.
When I first started watching IPKKND I was surprised at the abusive way that ASR treated Khushi. And it was - physically, mentally, emotionally abusive. And to his surprise she withstood it all - bouncing back every single time stronger and more determined. And perhaps that's what attracted ASR to her - her capability to give as good as she got, her determination to stand up and speak the truth no matter that she was shaking in fear as she said it, her honesty in accepting her mistakes when she made them, her strong convictions and moral compass.
She in turn peeled away ASR layer by layer until she reached the heart of Arnav. The Arnav that was attracted to the strange creature that she was, weird and funny, quirky and happy, and who sometimes spoke words that he didnt even understand!
In the process, ASR/Arnav learnt some valuable lessons from her.
That it doesn't make you a lesser person if you have to apologize - it takes a bigger man to be able to admit your mistakes.
That love doesn't mean you become weak in front of someone (remember Diwali?), love makes you stronger because you have the strength of two now
That with the right person, faith and trust is more precious than words.
That sometimes somethings need to be said (I love you, Khushi)
That character isn't always your destiny, sometimes destiny (and people like Shyam) get in the way
That there is always light at the end of a dark day.
And she in turn learnt
That sometimes apologies are not necessary - acknowledgement and true regret of ones wrongdoings are enough
That strength lies not in believing you can do everything alone, but in understanding your own strengths and weaknesses and using them wisely
That sometimes hard proof is necessary to support your words, faith and trust may not be enough
That sometimes some things don't need to be said - because actions speak louder than words - even if it the blink of an eye.
That destiny can sometimes be shaped by your own character
And that together you can make your way to that light at the end of the tunnel.
Khushi and Arnav are two halves of a complete whole. They know they have to weather more storms again - Nani with her less than subtle request to Khushi to stay away from Di was an indication. It broke Arnav's heart - they had just found each other, how could they be apart again? He echoes her pain at being asked once more to give more to this family.
So they lean on each other for strength and support.
And he takes the first step to bring back a semblance of normalcy in their lives - the little teasing side-stepping dance with the smile asking her to smile in return and being rewarded by the shyest of smiles. This is where they had left off before Shyam blew their dreams apart. It was time to make the dream a reality. But slowly.
So where does that leave the third person in their lives? The one whose shadow falls on their still budding love? Will she ask the supreme sacrifice from her Chotey - leave her? Is she capable of being that selfish? Perhaps. Will she try to manipulate him with emotional blackmail as she has done innumerable times? Highly possible. Does she resent Khushi for reigning over the hearts of the two most important men in her life? Absolutely. She is no longer the Queen Bee in the hive and who knows - she might sting and sting hard or she might just choose to fly away.
I for one, won't pretend to second guess the creators of these magnificent characters. I'll just 👏
👏 👏 and wait to see what tomorrow brings.
