I'm pretty sure I'm gearing up for a big spectacular ride here :D
Hey everyone! Here you go with the next chapter. In the first few chapters I want to give you an insight to the individual characters before proceeding to the Arnav- Khushi story. It will help you understand the future story better. Tell me what you think. Happy Reading! :-)
Chapter 2- First Impressions
Khushi pushed open the tarnished iron gates of the prestigious Delhi College. The gates were rusted, the iron coating chipping off. But that only added to the rising status of this grand college. It had been standing firm on its ground from the past twenty- five years providing its students the best of their academic life. Each student left this college as a new individual with a focused mind, a determined heart to fulfill all their aspirations and soaring independence.
Khushi couldn't have asked for anything better than this. An admission in the Delhi College had been a dream of hers ever since she read about it in the local newspaper while munching on jalebies in the balcony of her home back in Lucknow. She had decided there and then that this is where she'd want to go for her education. She wouldn't lift her head from her books while her Babuji would work extremely hard at the sweet shop to get her to where she was now. And Amma. She would always watch over her from above.
Khushi stepped in and watched in awe as the campus came in view with its large ground coated with a layer of fresh green grass, the huge edifices that stood rooted in its place under the wide expanse of the turquoise blue sky where a thousand students had studied over the past decades. Freshman students buzzed around the campus like bees in a hive. She made her way towards the crowd. She noticed the other girls standing next to her. They stood in groups, some barely clothed with heaps of make-up on while others held an expression like they owned the place. Khushi shook her head and smiled. She was glad she wasn't one of them. She believed that simplicity was the best apparel and a genuine smile the best ornamental one could wear. She could feel the gazes of people on her. She heard some people say 'pom-pom girl' and a few others say 'girl with the oily hair'. But she could care less. She wasn't here to showcase her fashion but was here to study and become something respectable in life, just like her father. She ignored everyone and concentrated on the orientation that was to begin in a few minutes.
-----------------------------------------
Arnav stood near the gates tapping his foot impatiently and checking his watch intermittently. He removed his Ray-Bans and stuffed them into his backpack. He stared at the parents who came to drop their children to the college. Mothers hugging their sons and daughters while the fathers proudly patted their heads. The emotions and pride evident on their faces was worth watching. He crossed his arms over his chest and leaned against the gates. He desperately wished he could have the same life that other people had. A normal one with a happy family. But it seemed like happiness was not destined to make its place in his life.
He had always wished to enter the Delhi College. It had been a dream ever since he was a little kid and it wasn't an easy one to fulfill. He had strived and slogged, stayed in his room studying, pretending that he could not hear the fights, the throwing and clashing of things, the abuses and the insults that his parents hurled at each other. But the truth was that no matter how hard he tried to ignore, he simply couldn't. He could hear it all. He saw them pull away from each other. Slowly and painfully. He had then realized that love didn't exist. It never did. And even if it did, it was only meant to destroy.
Aakash came running behind him and patted his shoulder dragging him out of his thoughts. "Hey bro." He said while trying to catch his breath.
"Where the hell were you Aakash? I have been waiting for you from the past fifteen minutes! You know I hate waiting."
"Relax dude. Not everyone has a car like you do. I had to catch a rickshaw and there was a lot of traffic on the way here."
"Alright alright. Let's go. Wait. Where is NK?"
"I am right here guys."
Arnav and Aakash turned to see their friend coming through the gateway. "Sorry. I am late. Mom wasn't leaving me! She had this pooja and this and that. God! Hope you understand."
Aakash smiled while Arnav didn't respond at all. "Let's go. The orientation has already begun."
------------------------------------------
The orientation was finally over. Arnav rolled his eyes frustratingly as girls batted their eyelashes and twirled their locks between their fingers on purpose to grab his attention. But he didn't give a damn. Arnav Singh Raizada didn't have time for all this nonsense. He was here to study and nothing else.
Since there were no classes today, Khushi decided to gather some books from the library and skim through the pages to have a brief idea of the content of the management course she was studying. She was carrying the books towards the campus ground when she bumped into someone. The stack of books flew in different directions and landed on the ground. She bent down to gather her books and stood up to face the stranger.
Khushi had never cared about boys, but the one standing in front of her managed to take her breath away. He was gifted with the most captivating brown eyes. His hair was perfectly gelled to the side. He had a prominent jaw and a perfectly carved nose. Khushi flushed a deep shade of pink as she realized that she had been gawking for too long. But she managed to speak. "I...I am very sorry. I wasn't looking."
Arnav scowled exasperatedly. "You certainly weren't. Can't you see and walk? Trying to get everyone's attention already?"
"Excuse me? I said I am sorry. You didn't have to say all that you just said."
"Do I look like I care? Next time, watch where you are going. And think a thousand times before bumping into me." With that said Arnav strode off but not without looking back at her once.
The temerity of that girl to bump into me and back answer me. He thought.
"Why Devi Maiyya? My first day at college and I had to bump into...into that...that Laad Governor. What does he think of himself? Raksha karna Devi Maiyya. Please keep me away from him." She muttered to herself while walking to the campus ground to begin studying already.
