I think by showing the scene where asr is missing his file and immediately suspects kushie of hiding his file was a preamble to demonstrate that despite everything including is growing respect for her family, that he does not trust her. This explains why he get so worked up over the gift wrap and reacts in his typical asr fashion. It is clear to me that the writers are bringing ASR back from the more relaxed gel fee Arnav that we've seen at the Gupta's. This is evidenced by the return of his 3 piece suit and gelled hair.
