i cant understand the shorthand/cuts because i dont use them and so i am not familiar with it. It takes time and effort to figure out what theyre trying to say. I avoid reading such posts.

If the first few words of the post contained any of the "da", "coz", "ur" or anymore of the "net lingo", I browse away!!

I'm sorry. But if you being the writer, are not ready to spend enough time to take care of the formatting and grammar of your post, you can't possibly expect a reader to go through it! At least not readers like myself... :-P

I think if people don't know how to write proper english they should write in hindi words so it makes more sense for everybody reading

It's possible that the shorthand version of posts make their appearance when people are using their phones to type and view messages.Small screens and all that.

Some of the abbreviated versions are completely illegible.
Some are not so bad.

I cannot stand sms language in sms', so it should come as no surprise that it irks me when people use it to type out stories, specially when they have a keyboard at their disposal. :p

As far as grammar goes...I understand many people here are not as comfortable in English so I have no comment on that but yes, I am unable to read FFs which dont have a proper grammar and spellings.

I have seen people write completely correct FFs on their phones. That's very impressive.

Hey Mary. I am old school when it comes to grammar and spelling etc. I have an undergrad degree in English. Therefore I am a stickler for grammar! I just don't like people writing posts, and especially OS, SS and FF's in shorthand with grammar errors! It just takes the joy out of reading the post!

Since we have grammar and spellcheck, we should use them! Even though I work in finance now, I still use the good writing skills I obtained during my English grad years! It comes in handy when writing business e-mails or drafting letters to clients etc!

So count me into the "stickler for grammer" camp! :)

I am a stickler for grammar and proper English. I' m not being elitist but it is just easier for me to read and appreciate the story instead of focusing on correcting errors.

I am OK with minor oversights - you can totally differentiate between bad grammar and an occasional typo.

Every author has his/her own audience, though. I know of people who just want to read stories irrespective of how they are written.

The question in my mind is that if someone is comfortable in their own language say Hindi, why would they not write in that? Since we all watch a Hindi show, I am sure there will be lots of readers who would read stories written purely in Hindi.
