The TABOO of Domestic Violence on this show!

Let me start by apologising for not trending with the humorous takes on the last week's episodes. I have read some very interesting and fantastically well written posts on the forum ( and here too I ought to apologise for being a non-believer!)

But, yes there is always a but...

Today's episode has my blood boiling!

Let the story line go to Hades for a minute.. (Its headed that way eventually),.

I want to talk about the culminating use of "excessive force" in the series.

Actually I am going to go all out and brand it "Domestic Violence".

Let's just go back to today's episode as the most recent example.

I won't point it out.. I want input..

I want all those conscientious readers who take the time out to read this post, to point out to me , and all others..

How many times, was some form of physical aggression used in today s episode?

In a country where a push and a shove and a slap are considered routine ways to "domesticate errant women" ..IPKKND is most definitely setting trends...by setting new boundaries in identifying acceptable levels of physical aggression towards helpless women!!!! (NOT)

Arm twisting the characters, is not going to arm twist the audience into applauding such an appalling act!

I want to use this forum to say NO!

No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No! No!

And, another vehement NO - to the portrayal of domestic violence in these series.

Anything worthwhile saying can be said without confining, dragging, pulling, shoving or hurtling any character against their will!

Arnav's character has set many a heart throbbing, and I am sure, many a soul are aiming to achieve the "Arnav effect" on their partner with the animal magnetism portrayed by Barun Sobti.( Of course I feel the pull of that animal magnetism too.. much to the chargin of my Man! ) So what example does Arnav's character set for them when he herds and leads his partner Khushi, every time he needs to make a statement or impression on her!

All those easily misinterpreted feelings of "possession"/"possessiveness"/"proprietary" come firmly in the wake of an arm twisted behind the back, or a writs or an arm with finger print impressions!

Do we want our country teaming with Romeos imprinting their other halves with their take on this violence?

I don't.

Who is with me?

Agreed! It's the one thing about the show that irks me. I understand that his character is aggressive and passionate. But every time there was an imprint mark on Kushi, it made my skin crawl. I for one will not tolerate such behavior from my husband. There is a difference between holding someone tightly in a heated moment of passion or anger vs physically hurting them.

Wish indian t.v would not promote such things...

And I still love the show! But arm twisting is totally wrong!!

I don't know. People are saying that he put her hands in his as a kind of support. However, whatever I saw on youtube, felt like he was dragging her inside the house holding her hands. Maybe I am wrong. Could feel differently once I watch it on TV.

Agreed. Neither would I tolerate it from my husband. And most of the female who swoons over such behaviour would neither be able to tolerate it. It is ugly not passionate.

It seems to be a habit he finds hard to break! It isnt just this episode! but really how many of us women on here would stand for someone treating them or someone they know like this!
Do you need to be physically assertive to be heard? And if so..are you worth being heard? Arnav has enough merit in his character, enough presence to command a hearing without laying a finger on the poor girl.. So blooming heck.. stop!

Divya..J..you know you've just stuck your hands into a hornets nest. Have you seen this show from its start? there was a lot of furor at that time about ASR's abusive ways with Khushi. I said it then and I repeat now, this has got to stop. But this show is not the worst of it. There are other shows on Indian Television that does much worse. I have many bones to pick with these other shows as well. IPK comes off as amateurish when compared to these other shows who have raised abuse and violence to an art.

Phew!! I know this is not how things should be done. I am seriously thinking of exercising my TV remote right to switch!!

Agree with this too. I've seen a lot worse myself which is why I stopped watching indian serials ages ago. In comparison with what I have seen in the past, this is not that bad. But still, it really irks me. It's a show I love for it's light hearted feel. And I know many of the members are die hard ASR fans.. But for me, the appeal was Kushi. She's so spunky at times and it reminds me of how I would react in certain situations. I am actually hoping that one of this days she would snap and slap him! Hahaha! not sure if that would happen, but hey, it would be fun to watch!

Please don't throw any chappals at me !!

Hey Smriti...
Lol to start with the J at the end of my name was a typo! it is just Divya, Divs, Dee..lol anything really!
And in response to your post.. yes I have seen the serial right from the start.. hence I mention Cumulative effect. It really winds me up to see such behaviour being portrayed prime time TV - its one thing to portray it something that shouldn't be done, and perhaps utilise as a PSA.. but its another thing totally for the lead to continue doing so such that there appears nothing wrong in his beahaviour, and the only time he regrets it - is when he sees the result of his physical abuse - i.e. a arm imprinted with his fingers, a cut and bloody finger, arm twists and the like of that! I can only speak for myself, and If a Man I loved touched me with such venom, I would never be able to forgive him for those atrocities, or trust myself to be safe with him in the event he got angry with me over something. is it fair to live in such fear in a relationship? I know the other shows you mention and I agree that there is many instances of such behaviour...shame on us all really!

Saubhagyavati Bhava - heard about that show and wondered why anyone would even create something like that for t.v.. As per my earlier comment, IPKKND is not as bad as many out there.

Just wish indian t.v would be more true to real indian women. we're known to be fire crackers.. hate the standard all these shows are setting for all the impressionable young girls out there who are watching the shows thinking this is the norm in relationships..
