hello, anyone still there?
Excellent recap as usual Diya. In fact I've been skimming your daily ramblings in your blog but you still manage to bring something fresh in your weekly updates.
Thanks so much, Opti ... I simply love reading your takes ... and glad to meet another blog reader! 😃
Loved it, especially what you said here.
"Khushi is still somewhat the naive girl she was, she knows he cancelled the sangeet because of her, but innocently she thinks it's because she slapped him. And she feels terrible that because of her,😭 So she goes off to apologise and make amends. a function that the whole family is looking forward to, a function which is one of the highlights of the wedding, is being cancelled. Everyone at the Raizada house is bitterly disappointed ... including even her nemesis, Mami, who didn't even want the wedding in the first place. All because of her and her mistimed thappad.
She doesn't realise that cancelling the sangeet was Arnav's response to her challenge. Silly Khushi, didn't you figure out the moment you said the word 'competition', Arnav's antennae were on high alert? And this guy just challenged you that he wouldn't lose, remember?
Khushi doesn't remember ... or at least, she finds it easier to believe that he cancelled the sangeet because of her thappad. So she tells him - slap me, we're even and then we can go ahead with the sangeet, right?
Wrong. He won't slap her ... gone are the days when he could drop her from an open window, or even from his arms (I think so, wonder if he'll prove me wrong on that one?) ... he can't hurt her now ... not physically, at least. "
I did not understand Arnav's sudden ban of the sangeet when he was fine with the family practicing with Madhubala before. Maybe I am as naive as Khushi, the reason I simply love her with all her idiosyncracies . The explanation you gave here was splendid and makes perfect sense. As to slapping, I half expected him to come close and attempt to kiss her cheek before holding back but I must commend the guy's self control. Although he is like a moth drawn to the flame every time he sees the unselfconscious display of innocence by Khushi he by and large retains his self control.
I was wondering HOW on earth forum members actually believed it was because the music gave him a headache!!! 😆😆😆 It was because of Khushi, of course it was ... every single random, inexplicable action of Arnav's is ALWAYS because of Khushi!!! 😆 Otherwise the guy is a fairly sensible chap ... it's only when it comes to Khushi that his sense goes haywire!!!
I didn't expect him to kiss her ... but I did hope he would get REAL close, and maybe whisper in her ear that he wasn't going to slap her ... that would have gotten her totally rattled. I did think at that point that cv's are bringing back the physical awareness slowly, that was an integral part of their earlier attraction, and it had been severely damped down during the two engagements. But yep, he's controlled ... until now ... wonder when he will lose that iron control of his ... that should be an unforgettable episode!
When he was reminding her of the times she has lost to him and mentions how she returned to work for him after swearing she will never work for him again , he conveniently forgot that he had to eat humble pie and call her back after Anjali's sulking. Technically she was Anjali's employee rather than his, although he was paying her the salary. To some extent one can say that the two instances that he mentioned - working for him again and Payash matter was initiated by him partly to ease his troubled conscience. He did feel guilty after being responsible for her near death experience, the reason why he did not retort when she blasted him in his own house before thrusting her resignation letter at him. He also felt guilty for being responsible for Payal's wedding fizzling out and was only too relieved when Akaash assured him that he did indeed love Payal and wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. It gave him an opportunity to make amends.
Yes, to both ... he never called her back of his own free will, and she never came of her own free will ... they both had compulsions neither could withstand ... but he always kept his arrgance intact and showed it as his victory ... somewhat like the NYE scenario, where he actually lost, but claimed victory ... Khushi needs to smarten up and realise that he manages to twist things around to portray his defeat as victory 😛 As for Payash ... he had a twofold reason to ask her help - his brother and his guilty conscience about her sister ...
So if anything, in both the cases it is he who should be grateful to Khushi and not the other way around but then Khushi being Khushi cannot think beyond the present. Why else would she remain silently appalled when he told her she was a loser because she stood in a torn dress when it was he who not only came before her at the stroke of the new year and thereby had already lost the bet to her, but was also responsible for the tear. She really needs to sharpen her mind if she has to handle this wily and crooked guy who can turn even his losses into his gains. Wonder how he plans to defeat her in the sangeet match but I am pretty sure if at all he wins it will not be a fair fight.
OH yes, Khushi definitely needs to sharpen up, but at heart she remains naive and non-calculating ... take the sangeet challenge - her intention is to win it through fair means, by simply dancing well ... while he will play foul for sure ... the question is how foul ... not vindictive, mean foul this time around, but maybe wicked calculating foul ... the way he made his moves in the kitchen to rattle her seem to indicate interesting times ahead ...
I thought he made an interesting point when he asked her what if fate is not with her and she loses. In fact right through the show fate has never helped either of them get what they want. They have been trying their level best to stay away from each other and fate has always been throwing them back into each other's company despite their avowed dislike for each other. So even if he manages to win the competition I doubt he will really be happy about it. For one he would feel terrible seeing a sad Khushi. For another, he may end up asking her to do something which will only keep her closer to him, which he keeps telling himself he does not want.
Fate and Devi Maiyya play a huge role in their story ... regardless of how much they try, fate drives them towards each other again and again ...
Time and again, we've seen that he tries to defeat her, but he can't take her defeat ... my feeling is she will be about to lose through his playing foul, and he will recant at the last minute and let her win ... and she will acknowledge that he let her win and accept her 'punishment' in private ... also, this time, he will not ask her to do anything really unpleasant ... like you said, it will probably wind up in bringing her closer to him, which he claims he doesn't want, but actually does ...
From his moves on Friday, it does seem as though he has acknowledged the attraction between them and is not averse to using it to strengthen his chances of victory ... question is, will it actually help him win ... or lose?
I thought there was some symbolism in his watch strap getting caught in her dress and her dress getting torn when he yanks it to get his hand free. Maybe they will be linked together by time ('samay' in hindi). When Shyam's truth comes out (in whatever form) he may yank himself free and in the process dishonour her. There was quite a lot of symbolism in the scene where he plucks the rose from her hair and gives it to her. As many pointed out, it seemed symbolic of deflowering her in future. His removing the rose and letting her hair down was symbolic of his helping her shed her inhibitions. His returning the rose to her could mean that he will love and honour her despite all his brusqueness. So maybe after dishonouring her for what he believes to be the truth, he may end up restoring her honour back once his anger dies down.
Found your symbolism about the watch and the tearing of her dress very interesting ... you could be right ... sign of impending dishonour ... and an unfair establishment of defeat? Bceause his proclamation that he had won because her dress was torn made no sense otherwise! About the flower, again I thought the same ... not only 'deflowering' ... but unbound hair is again a sign of intimacy ... Returning the rose as a sign of returning her honor ... agree on that.
Waiting to see how they will take this from here.
Ditto ... hope they get this show back on track, then it could be very interesting times ahead! Thanks for your take ... it was a pleasure reading and replying!!!
