The mahaepisode was excellent for so many reasons but ultimately for the melancholy end. The whole engagement reveal was so well played out and Barun's expressions so relateable it left me feeling an ache in my chest. So I have come here to let it all out.
What I particularly liked about the scene was the set up. The apology backfired on ASR and he hated himself right then for making Khushi do that. So when, she announces to him that she is engaged, she is saying it to the vulnerable Arnav and not ASR, and that is why his world crumbles. SaRun's eyes say it all. I love Barun's voice modulation when he questions her ''what are you doing' - it is a virtual whisper and then the voice builds because she does not relent, although it is written all over her face that knows why he is hurt. When he grabs her, I found it a very appropriate reaction (*please don't say that I am a fan of manhandling, as I am not, just let me explain) because just imagine if you were watching a woman tell her lover that she was cheating on him and then tell him what's the big deal...and to ASR, this is what that moment was. Yes, it doesn't make any sense, because he never said he loved her - but she knows, doesn't she - or else why cry on your way out? Not only does it matter to him, it matters to her.
So, I am back with a poem of sorts - I don't know what to call it -but I had to get it out. It's about Khushi and ASR in this scene where she reveals she is engaged.
No Longer Yours - by Anu
The words fell from her
Fleshy pink lips,
As feathery petaled whispers,
Onto him
With the weight of
A hatchet,
Cleaving his soul.
"I am no longer yours".
The air hangs electric
With grief.
Razors slice his core.
He fights to breathe
Glass shards fill his lungs.
Longing and regret
Bubble up
Knotting his throat.
His eyes burn with
Tears unspent.
He is broken .
As he looks at her for one last glance
Piercing screams of silence
Plead from his eyes
"But, you were mine".
She senses him and
Responds with dewey tears
"I was yours only. To lose."
He knows this.
He is fluent in
The language of loss.
He hears his brittle heart crack
And wonders why
something in him died,
When he never allowed his
Heart to live?
