Arnav Singh Raizada was a man of few words. In all of his 24 years of life, he had never spoken his feelings aloud. He had never found the need to do so. But on this particular night, as Arnav was making his way home through the relentless storm, he couldn't help but feel a slight tug somewhere at the depths of his heart. For the first time, he realized to what extent he had shut himself from the world. He had never had any friends-no one that he could truly call his own. If only he had given his life another chance' things might have been different.
Arnav's frustration had grown to a new level altogether. How had a person like Arnav Singh Raizada made such a great mistake? I'm sorry Khushi' He whispered. I'm sorry for everything'. His only wish was to see her once more. He needed to clear things out between them'.although, he didn't know the reason behind his urgency to meet Khushi. Words or actions of others had never affected him'but Khushi' she was different.
The girl, who had been bent over the whole time, inspecting her ankle (which seemed to have twisted at a very strange angle) now stood. To Arnav's utter shock, the girl was none other than Khushi. Her arms were seared in numerous areas and blood was flowing out of the cuts. Her hair was in a dishevelled clump and he could see that a deep exhaustion lined her eyes.
"How much money do I owe you for the damage done to your car?" Khushi waved to the front of his car, which was almost clear of any marks or dents.
Arnav walked brusquely to her side and grasped her quivering hands. Khushi tried to wriggle her hands out of his, but to no avail. He was much stronger than her. "LET ME GO!" Screamed Khushi, at last. "What do you think of yourself Mr. Arnav Singh Raizada?! I'm not a toy which you can handle in any way you please!! So stop showing your strength on me! DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!!" Khushi wrenched her hand out of his, gasping for breath. "I hate you'." She whispered.
Khushi stared at him, open-mouthed in shock.
"That's what I thought. Now, will you get in the car by your own will or shall I put you there forcefully?"
Khushi gave him a scathing look before climbing into the passenger seat of the car.
The drive to the hospital was silent. Khushi was boiling with anger and Arnav was watching her silently, wondering when she would blow at last.
"Does it hurt'?" Arnav asked finally. Khushi looked towards him questioningly. He motioned towards the cuts lining her arm. Khushi shook her head slowly. "No'I suppose not'. It's nothing compared to the pain you've caused me. At least these cuts will heal'."
Arnav felt as if a sharp knife had been stabbed through his heart.
"Look Khushi..." He began. But he couldn't continue his sentence. In all his life, Arnav Singh Raizada had never apologized. He didn't know how to do it. He let the statement fade.
Before they knew it, they had reached the hospital. Arnav quickly got up from his seat, to help Khushi up.
Khushi shook her head with determination. "No thank you' I'll manage myself." Arnav shrugged, moving away to let her try. "Suit yourself!" It had hardly been 2 steps before Khushi began to lose balance. "Careful!" he warned. Just as he uttered the word, Khushi fell'but Arnav was present to catch her. Khushi locked her arms around his neck for support. Her heart was beating rapidly. She had never been this close to any male before'. It wasn't right.
They didn't know how long had passed when the trance broke at last. Khushi quickly straightened herself. She had never been this embarrassed before.
Even Arnav was uncomfortable. What had just happened? It was something that was entirely beyond their control.
"Are you alright?" Arnav asked, in an effort to break the silence. Khushi nodded. "Well, I suppose we shouldn't waste anymore time. I don't have all day you know."
Khushi glared at him. "Oh please'. What makes you think I have all day to spend? Especially with a guy like YOU!" Arnav balled his hand in a fist, taking deep breaths to control his anger. "Ok, look. Let's just go in, get you checked and leave, alright? And then we'll make sure to never see each other again." Khushi nodded in agreement.
"What did the doctor say?" She asked as Arnav helped her off the bed. "She said that you'll be fine very soon and told me to make sure that you don't use your foot too much. You've sprained it." He declared.
Khushi sighed. She was not one to sit still for long. These few weeks would be very difficult for her.
"Alright, look. I know I was wrong all those times that I hurt you. I know I shouldn't have. I have no idea why I did it and I was just being a jerk, ok? I'I'm sorry'."
Without looking at Arnav, she asked, "Can I turn now?" He nodded. Her eyes were widened in surprise. It was easy for Arnav to tell that this was the last thing she expected to hear from him.
"So'? What do you say'? Will you come back?" Khushi blinked, trying to assure herself that he was indeed saying these very words to her.
"Come back where..?" She asked, lost. Arnav flailed his hands in the air, frustrated. "To work, of course! Will you re-join my company?!" Khushi gazed at him, suspiciously.
There was a new kind of hopefulness within his eyes and it was clear for Khushi to see.
"You won't torture me if I come back?" He shook his head quickly. "Never."
She laughed. "Of course I will!! After all, your company is desperately in need of Khushi Kumari Gupta!"
She winked towards him as she climbed in the car to return home.
