PART 4

Shlok and Kavya followed Aastha to her apartment. She felt really excited at the prospect of Shlok visiting her home. She was positively thrilled and a "butterfly fluttering feeling" in her stomach increased with each step she took.
She opened the door to her residence and invited Shlok and little Kavya inside. Shlok gazed around the sitting room which was neat and cosy, and he was quite impressed by the way in which things were arranged nicely in a graceful manner. Aastha asked them to sit down and she went into the kitchen and took out some ice cream from the refrigerator. She went back into the sitting room and served the three of them with strawberry ice cream.
S :( while having the ice cream): Aastha..Is Mumbai your home town?
A : No..I am from Pune only. I came to Mumbai when I got my job and it has been four years after that.
S : Oh alright..You live alone in this apartment?
A:(smiling)Actually No..I stay here with my friend Payal.
S :Oh..Ok.. It has been only two months since I came to Mumbai.. Kavya's father, Varad is my best friend and it was with the help of him that I got a job here in Mumbai. He also helped me get an apartment near to his.
A :Oh that's really cool.(smiles)And your Aayi Baba..?Both are fine na..?
Shlok's expression suddenly changed as if he had tasted something bitter. But Aastha failed to notice this when she heard Kavya's voice and looked at her instead..
K:Oh no..!!Now Mummy will scold me..!
Kavya had dropped some ice cream in her dress..
Aastha went up to her and helped her up.
A:Its ok Kavya beta..Come on let's go to the wash room..
And saying so, she took the poor kid to the washroom so as to clean her dress.
Shlok gritted his teeth as he thought about his Baba, Mr.Niranjan Agnihotri, who was responsible for the death of Swati, his girlfriend.
{{ For the past six years, he didn't know the real reason behind her death. He had thought that it had been a road accident. He had blamed himself for not being with her at that time when she needed him the most and gradually turned into a hard core alcoholic. It was only with the help of alcohol that he could survive the bitter pangs of lost love. Two years later after Swati's death, Jyoti's wedding changed everything. On the eve of her wedding she had pleaded with him to quit drinking. She made him promise her that he would never drink again after that day, by placing his hand upon her head. Since he loved her dearly, ( she was his only sister after all) he quit drinking and started life afresh on her wedding day, which was the very next day.
From that day Shlok joined their family business to help his Baba. His parents were really happy
to see the change in him and everything went on nicely for the Agnihotri Family for over four more years. But precisely two months ago, Shlok happened to overhear his parents' conversation and he learned that his Baba had created the accident with the help of a hired professional killer. He had barged into his parents' room and swore that he would send his father to the jail. But his Aayi fell down at his feet and begged him not to do so. He packed his things and left his house the very same day, pledging that he would never ever go back again. He decided to get a life of his own.
Varad had helped him out of his dilemma and gave him a life in Mumbai. After meeting Kavya,
Shlok found a new cute little friend and she brought all the happiness back into his life. }}

Suddenly Aastha's mobile started ringing and he came out of his reverie. It was lying on the couch opposite to Shlok.
Shlok thought for a moment if he should take the phone and go to Aastha or wait for her to come back. But, then he thought , "what if it was an important call". He decided to go and give the phone to Aastha. But just as he went and picked up the phone, it stopped ringing. As he gazed at the screen of the phone, he was really shocked...Or surprised??He couldn't say.
S: Hey this is my photo!!..My photo ?? In Aastha's phone?? She has put my photo as her wallpaper..?! Strange..!!
As he stood there with Aastha's phone in his hand, suddenly he heard voices of Aastha and Kavya coming back. Hastily he placed back the phone and when they came back they found him sitting on the couch and casually reading a magazine.
K: Uncle..Let's go..Mama and Papa would have come back from work.
S: (getting up) Ok Kavya..Now you say bye to Aunty..
K: Byeee Aunty
Aastha suddenly began to feel sad. Now there was no way to stop them going. She cursed her fate silently. He walked up to Aastha and faced her.
S: (trying to sound casual) Ok Aastha..It was nice meeting you..
Aastha couldn't say anything and she just nodded forcing herself a smile. Shlok was surprised to see tears slowly filling her eyes. He was perplexed.
S: Ok..We need to go now..Come on Kavya..
And saying so both of them turned and walked away from Aastha. She stood there fighting back her tears.

Half an hour later, Payal came back after her date with Rohan. She found Aastha in the bedroom, who was standing at the window, looking outside. She ran to her and hugged her happily from behind and started to jump up and down hysterically.
P: He proposed me..Rohan asked me to marry him..I can't believe ..oh my God..Oh my God..Oh my God..Oh my God..
Aastha turned and feeling really happy for her friend she hugged her back
A: Wowww..That's wonderful Payal..I am so happy for you ..
Payal pulled out from the hug and faced Aastha. Payal noticed that there were tears in her eyes and she placed her hands on Aastha's shoulder, feeling concerned about her.
P: What happened to you?!! Were you crying before I came here..?
A: It's nothing yaar..It's just..
P: Don't lie to me Aastha..Tell me what's the matter..
Aastha narrated the whole story to Payal. After hearing everything Payal was actually smiling..
P: Wooww Aastha..At least you should feel happy to know that he is in the same city as you...It's not a mere coincidence that all these happened..You both could have been anywhere in the world, Aastha. But, "destiny" has brought the two of you together here in this city Aastha..Mumbai-"The city of dreams"!!.. What if, your dream also comes true. I am telling Aastha..This is just the beginning my dear..You just wait and watch..!!(she finished excitedly)
Aastha cheered up a little hearing Payal's words..Aastha turned and looked back through the window at the city around, which she could view from there. It was full of shimmering lights twinkling here and there and she felt warmth spreading throughout her body. The wind caressed her face and she felt relaxed. May be Payal was right. "Even my dream might come true"...
