The same was his plan... He spoke to Nani... wanting to undo the hate vachans he gave during the saat pheras... So he wanted to make it special for her; but hindered due to his ill-health.

When after rest and medication, he feels better, he falls more in love with the girl who's now teaching him a different way of looking at his mother or thinking of his mother

So he immediately executes his plan.

I didn't want to write another family gathering, the forever repeating rasme and stuff... typical harneet style.

Marriage happens between two souls... and as Dev puts it , there can not be a better witness than the sun itself, which is eternal fire in solar system... so keeping him as witness, the new vachans are exchanged just between the two in total privacy.
