And chandini is clueless about the reason for his hatred for now, so my heart does go out for her for now.

i understand them both and feel so bad

Chapter 10

Chandini's eyes closed for a few brief seconds trying to absorb what her husband had just announced. She opened them again to find questioning looks from her family and others around. Then gradually brought her focus back on her husband who sported a devious smirk satisfied with the result his words garnered.

There were hushed conversations and murmurs around just when a few moments ago there were cheers for the event.

He leaned towards her trembling form to whisper, "How was the first surprise, my dear?

Chandini clenched her fists in response, no longer wondering what was in store for her this evening. She knew what it was but prayed and pleaded silently to god that Advay wasn't planning what her mind was thinking.

"You all seem to be surprised and I wouldn't blame you! So was I when I figured out last night that my wife wasn't what she portrayed herself to be. He sneered straightening and looking purposefully at her.

She shuddered inwardly as his assumptions were thrown out in the open for the public to decipher and stamp them as truth. She was rooted to the spot, unable to utter a single word as her husband continued to bombard his taunts.

"I was shell shocked when I figured that my wife was not the nave, innocent victim of a kidnapping incident as I believed her to be; but was the mastermind behind the whole plot, a staged kidnapping to divert the rumour of her affair. Did you know that, saasumaa? Advay asked mockingly.

Chandini failed to notice her mama's anger as her focus was on her maa's stoic face and the shocked expressions of other family members. Her baba seemed oblivious to everything happening around him. Shikha made a move to defend her but Chandini shook her head, her eyes requesting her to take baba outside the hall.

"Cheeku, what is happening? interrupted nani worriedly.

"The truth is being brought out in the open, nani! Advay stated. His nani fell silent trying to grasp the happenings, just like the others were, noticed Chandini.

She hunched preparing to take blow after blow that a furious Advay was planning to throw her way, having no choice in the matter; cementing the fact that though she couldn't understand the reason behind his actions, she knew for certain that he hated her to hell and back.

"I have another big surprise in line for you, Chandini. he announced, disgust lacing his tone. She noticed him motioning a reluctant Murli to bring whatever was in store for her.

Her mind instinctively knew the next big bombshell and her eyes rounded in concern. She met his gaze, silently questioning why he was breaking his promise to her. He brought his face close to hers and uttered in no uncertain terms the answer to her unspoken question, "You have taught that promises were meant to be broken, Chandini. I'm only applying the lesson learnt just as a good pupil would do.

Her puzzled frown vanished the moment she saw the pram that Murli pushed towards them. Her mind silently screamed, no, no not this innocent one. Please spare him, God! Please!

Her plea went unheard as Advay stepped forward and picked the small bundle and placed it in her arms, "Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you the child of my one day bride, Dhruv Vasisht! he declared.

Chandini's heart shattered into a million pieces, her eyes an endless reservoir of tears. She looked at the innocent baby smile up at her trying to grab a lock of her hair, as a drop of moisture fell on his cheek.

"Advayji, there seems to be a misunderstanding. she heard Meghu speak and her head went up immediately. She met meghu's gaze frantically and glared at her not to utter anymore. But she shook her head sideways stubbornly; ready to break her silence on this matter.

"Meghu, stop! There is no point in hiding the truth anymore. Chandini spoke hurriedly her voice thick with emotion and putting the last nail in her coffin.

Meghu looked at her angrily for stopping her, shaking her head at the injustice happening to her sister.

"Yes, let it all come out! The affair, the fake kidnapping, the fake PTSD and the abandoned child! You abandoned your baby, Chandini, just so you could marry someone rich and settle in life! She is a gold digger too, people! Beware! he drawled mercilessly.

Her eyes clouded with misery, her only thought was how could she have been foolish enough to trust him; that he wouldn't tarnish her family's image and hers?

"Cheeku, enough! What is wrong with you? Are you in your senses? I stayed calm for so long, but not anymore! Apologise to your wife immediately! interrupted his nani warning him.

"Apologise for what, nani; for having the guts to spill the truth? She is a liar and gold-digger par excellence! And she is not my wife either! I cannot have such a character-less woman for my wife! I am un-marrying her right in front of you all! he roared in anger ignoring the shocked look on his nani's face.

He turned his attention to Chandini, "I have prepared the documents for annulment. It will be sent to you by evening. Do sign them! he whispered in her ear.

She was beyond emotion as she stood motionless listening to all the barbs coming out of his mouth. She stared straight ahead at nothing, her cheeks wet and her tears caught in her lashes as she held on to the innocent bundle in her arms.

"By the way, I forgot the last surprise, Chandini. I have sold the Vasisht villa. So your family has 24 hours to vacate the premises. He announced gleefully.

She flinched but chose to ignore him and gradually made her way towards her maa, who appeared furious beyond belief. She wobbled as she moved to stand in front of her and opened her mouth to apologise when her maa's hand met her cheek. Her face whipped at the impact. "How could you do this, Chandini? I am so ashamed of you! Don't you dare utter a word out of that ugly mouth of yours! You have given me a fitting reward for having raised you. She uttered in anger.

Chandini couldn't speak past the lump in her throat. However she tried, her voice croaking, "Maa, it is not what you think... only for indrani to interrupt by raising her palm and saying, "Enough! I cannot have such a person in my house when I have my two girls to get married. I disown you from this moment forward. You are to have no contact with any member of my family! Good bye! She left dragging Meghu with her and glared at others to follow suit; the sting of final rejection felt more painful than the red marks left on her cheek by her maa's hand.

One after the other her family members left, followed by a reluctant nani accompanied by Murli and Shilpa. The rest of the guests threw unpleasant comments at her as they dispersed the premises in groups.

She held herself upright with humungous effort when Advay approached, "You once uttered that a person like me didn't deserve to have a loving family. And now I've left you without one and tarred your image beyond repair too as a bonus! How does it feel to be a nobody, ex-wifey? his voice held an unknown grudge.

"Goodbye, Chandini without a surname! he growled satisfactorily as he left hurriedly.

She closed her eyes and the only sound she could hear was the heavy thud of her crushed heart. She smirked sadly as she realised that she never did have the privilege of experiencing true love from anyone throughout her lifetime and that she never would in future as well.

She inhaled deeply and gasped as her breathe caught in her throat as it suddenly dawned on her that there was a life of desolation written in her fate. That's when the first of many sobs escaped, her body shaking with them as she gradually sank to the floor with the baby resting in her arms.
