TOI: Barun Sobti set to win hearts as he turns anti-hero! (ShivRun IV)

Barun Sobti, as the menacing, calculative yet charming anti-hero Advay Singh Raizada, has left his fans intrigued. His sinister motives will be revealed, as the nail-biting story of 'Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon', which launches tonight at 8 on Star Plus, unfolds. The show promises a mix of action, thrill, romance and soul-stirring music, with the song 'Rabba Ve' garnering much appreciation. We caught up with Barun and the lead actress Shivani Tomar, who plays Chandni in the love-revenge drama, for an informal chat. Excerpts...

Tell us about Advay and Chandni's chemistry in the show.
Barun: Advay is an unapologetic anti-hero, who will keep you guessing whether he is a positive or negative person. He promises the love of his life a lifetime of hate by strategising against her and the next moment, standing by her as a saviour. He wants to avenge his parents' death. He had a traumatic past and he holds Chandni responsible for it, which makes their chemistry passionate and thrilling.

Shivani: Chandni is a Sanskrit expert, who has immense faith in religion and tradition. She's not a girl-next-door and she will surprise you with her mental strength. Her chemistry with Advay is intense as they are unpredictable.

How was it working with each other?
Barun : We share a comfortable equation, as Shivani is very easy to work with.
Shivani : Barun is an extremely hard-working and disciplined actor. He is also supportive as a co-actor.

What makes the show a must-watch for viewers?
Barun : The storyline is such that the show will be a blockbuster. The highlights of 'Iss Pyaar...' are its content, which has masala, the performances and the grandeur of the set. Also, the styling of the actors is so unique, we are sure it will set a trend among the youth. The makers are known for coming up with looks that stand out and it's no different this time.
Shivani: A stellar star cast sets our show apart from the rest. It features actors like Ritu Shivpuri, Seema Azmi, Salina Prakash, Juhi Aslam, Mitaali Nag and Sameer Dharmadhikari, among others. And, I must say, I love Chandni's ethnic yet contemporary blouses, saris and accessories for which I have already received a good response.
