PART TWO
He came to office marching like always. The office staff stood up to greet him but as usual the Mr Omkara Singh Oberoi was on call and all he his was a nod while getting into his cabin. He sat down and started checking his files while going through the files he mistakenly pushed one down. Before he could get it Jhanvi walked in with a lawyer as he stood up to greet her. "Mom, you here? Anything wrong? "he asked. "I got to know that you are hiring a secretary. Is that true?" Jhanvi asked him. "Yes it is. I am hiring a secretary" he answered playing with his hands. "Is anything connected between the two things "Jhanvi narrowed her eyes sensing something wrong. "Which two things? "he asked pretending to be cool.
"You very well know which two things I am talking about" she snapped. "I am warning you Omkara, agar mujhe pata chala that there is something fishy in hiring a secretary and finding a girl for marriage, I swear I will cancel all the appointments and you my boy will lose me "her tone was still filled with anger. "No mom, there is nothing I am or I will be hiding from you. Besides, the secretary thing is just because you see I have a lots of work to do. And your daughter in law is waiting to meet to you as soon as she comes back from her hometown" he smiled at her trying to calm her down. "And where is her hometown. You better not bring any of your previous affairs at my house my dear" she was still angry.
"Not at all. And why would I?" he went to her and took her hands "Mom, I know you didn't like any of them. Also they were not something I am concerned about. My priority right now is you and your happiness. You want me to get married then I will. I am not at all ready to not follow my mom's wish" he smiled as Jhanvi smiled back. She placed one of her hand on his cheek "My only wish is to see you happy my boy. Om, if you and Rudra get your lives well with the best partners that you both deserve than I would die in peace" the smile vanished from his face.
"You are not dying, understand. You are not at all going anywhere leaving both of us behind. We are still your boys and no matter what we would need you. I and O are not ready to let you go anywhere mumma" Rudra hugged her from back. "But I.. " Omkara cuts her "I told you it's done. No more discussions on this topic. And you are not dying" she laughed. "What's funny?" Rudra questioned. "Nothing "Jhanvi shrugged. "Okay I think you should get going mom. You need rest. And by the way what is the lawyer here for?" he asked pointing towards the man sitting on the couch.
"Oh he. Actually I made a contract for your future wife" Jhanvi answered. "Contract?" both spoke together. "Yes, a contract. Since I don't trust any girl you choose for yourself, the contract states that there will be no right of her on any of your property till the marriage reaches two years. Also non of you could cheat on each other and if that happens the person would be leaving the house right then" she stated. "What do you mean by non of you?" his eyebrows furrowed. "It's because things should be equal between you two. I could not straight away blame her for infidelity" she shrugged. "Mom, there is no need Omkara almost pleaded. "There is a need. I do not trust any girl you choose. Till now your choices have been pathetic" she snapped again. "Okay, okay calm down. I agree" he sighed knowing that there was no way he could argue with this lady. "Good boy, now I will be going and you better not threaten the lawyer to change the contract understand?" she pointed her index finger. "Yes... I mean no I will not" he huffed. "And yes tell her to come before my next visit to the doctor" Jhanvi walked out.
"What now O? How would you find a girl in a day's time. And that too someone who agrees to stay loyal? " Rudra asked with a worried expression. "Frankly, I don't know Rudra. Things are different now. I have to get a girl who stays loyal for three months and I have also to stay loyal to someone I don't even want" he huffed again. God, this is going to be difficult. He closed his eyes and picked up the file. "Who is this?" he asked Rudra. "Oh, that's one of the girl who sent her picture for your secretary post" Rudra answered. "Tell the detective, I want to know everything about her, today" he passed the file to Rudra and dumped himself to work again.
Gauri went to her mother's ward the first thing in the morning to check whether she was fine or not. She reached the hospital only to see the doctors rushing to her ward. "Nurse what happened?" she asked one of the ladies who were rushing to the ward. "Mrs. Sharma had a heart attack" the nurse told her. "Heart.. heart attack" she tried to confirm when the nurse turned to her. "Yes, heart attack. Now if you could please excuse me" she snapped. "But.. but she was okay till yesterday" Gauri asked again ignoring he face the nurse had. "Listen, first pay the bills fully and then talk. Pata nahi kahan kahan se chale aate hain, charity cases" she walked off.
Gauri ran to the reception "I already told you to get the money from my bank account. But the nurse told me that I didn't have paid" she yelled. "Your bank account has no money Miss Sharma" the receptionist informed her. "What? How the hell is it possible?" she asked still confused. "That is something you have to care about" the receptionist rolled her eyes.
She immediately called her bank and got that know that her father had withdrawn every penny that he had given to her. There is now only the leftover salary she had saved from the last month which could only manage the bills till tomorrow. Standing up, fighting her tears she handed her personal card to the receptionist as she swiped it. "Thank you" she said and ran to her mother.
"No need to worry now Ms Sharma. Your mother is fine now" the doctor informed her. "But sir, she had a heart attack" Gauri asked him. "Yes, she had, but we were able to take care of the situation well. And have you cleared the bill for today?" he asked. "Yes doctor and thank you" tears ran down her eyes as the doctor left. It is the truth, this world works only on money and right now she had none. She didn't know what would she do tomorrow, she didn't know how will she face them tomorrow. But one thing is for sure that she is not going to leave her mother alone for dying.
She sat near her mother when she opened her eyes "Maa, tu theek hai" she asked placing her hand into her grip. "Haan, main bilkul theek hun" her mother answered, smiling. "Tune toh mujhe dara diya tha she laid her head on her feet as her mother stroked her hair. "Is there anything wrong?" her mother asked her. "No, nothing... sab theek hai" she answered but was not able to satisfy he mother's suspicion. "It's okay, leave me. I know money is the problem" her mother said in an understanding tone still stroking her hair. "No, never; I am never going to leave you alone in any case. And money will never be the problem maa. Bas tu apna khayal rakh" she pulled her face up. "Don't get yourself worked up bachcha, it's okay. Everyone has to die one or the other day" she again repeated the same tone. "You are all I have maa. Don't ever even think of leaving me. I am not ready to let you go anywhere" she answered again placing her head back on her mother's feet.
"What about him? Did he call?" her mother asked Gauri. "Maa, you know he left us. Now why you are still on this that he would come one day. He is never going to come maa; Never" she yelled. Her mother had tears in her eyes which broke something inside her again. "Maa, jab aaj tak he didn't care about us then you should not expect him to care any day" she said calmly. "I loved him Gauri. You cannot hate someone you love. Can still do anything for him" she said gripping Gauri's hand. "Maa.." she cuts her "I am resting now" Gauri sighed as her mother closed her eyes.
This is the reason he hates love. This is the reason she never let anyone love her nor did she himself let anyone love her. She cannot afford to turn weak now. She cannot afford to get a heart break from anyone else in her life. Her father was enough for her to every time break her trust. No one could she let to crush her heart again.
Her phone rang "Yes... Gauri Kumari Sharma speaking... Yes... Oh... Okay okay... ya sure I am just on my way".
