Part 3: Ending At Never...

3 months later.

Main hall, Oberoi Mansion.

All the members of the family rejoice as all three sons of the family spread cheer and charm throughout the mansion.

Finally, everyone is under the same roof again. Though things are still rough around the edges, I know that we are close to achieve the ultimate happiness of being together.

Somehow, my granddaughters-in-law made the impossible turn possible. With the amount of hatred and fury blowing off Om's head, I thought my family is going to remain incomplete forever now. But, I nearly forgot that as loving and caring my grandsons are, their better halves are just as nurturing and affectionate, if not more.

The booming laughter of my grandsons reach my ears and I know that I can finally die peacefully, knowing that they will always look after each other and their parents.

"Kitna accha lag raha hai! Meri rooh ko aaj thandak mili hai, Mummy ji. Ghar ki roshni, ghar vapas laut aayi! My younger daughter-in-law says with happiness in her voice.

"Sahi kaha, Pinky. Mere ShivOmRu ghar vapas aagaye. Ab mujhe koi shikayat nahi hai. Dekhna, ab jo hoga, accha hi hoga.

"Exactly, ab dheere dheere sare rishte bhi sulajh jaayenge. Jhanvi states calmly.

Pinky doesn't respond to her. But, nonetheless smiles to show acknowledgement.

I sigh deeply and walk towards the temple.

Despite all the misunderstandings being cleared off, my two daughters-in-law don't bond well anymore. There was a time when Pinky was Jhanvi's most trusted confidante, but now Pinky cares less about what happens in her Jethani ji's life.

The woman who always taught Jhanvi to fight for her rights, now fights against her. Though my mind keeps reminding me that Pinky is rightfully hurt, my heart breaks every time they argue. I can see Pinky holding back her tongue, but each time Jhanvi crosses her limits with her own words, Pinky loses her temper despite her attempts to control.

"Mummy ji, should I help you with your thaal? Asks my older daughter-in-law as she puts away her slippers before stepping into the temple.

"Of course, my old and shaky hands cannot put the wick into the lamp anymore. I reply sadly.

"Okay, bring it here... she takes the lamp from my hand and settles down, "This akhand jyot is going to be lit up today? She asks with a smile.

"Today, my house is all bright and happy because my three grandsons are home, I will light up every corner of my house with diyas just like Aayodhya was when Raam came back home.

Jhanvi laughs and assures to do so with the servants. Quietly she starts to roll the wick between her palm and I can see tears gather in her eyes.

"Puttar, why do you try to pick a fight with Pinky? When she is ready to call a truce, then why not you?

She sniffs and says, "She is not ready for a truce, Mummy ji. She is ready to suppress this anger inside her, only because when Ru left this house, he asked her to protect me from Tej. And from anything that comes in the way. Rudra has always been her favourite after Shivaay. She would have done anything Rudra asked for.

"So you are making sure all her anger gets out of her heart? Puttar, but your words are pushing her away from you.

"It doesn't matter. I hurt her. She was my friend and sister before everything went downhill. We had our own bad days but she was always by my side when Tej did wrong to me and our kids. I was drunk and out of my senses, and my kids turned to Shivaay for affection and Pinky for a motherly touch. A tear rolls down her face.

"Back then she did it for the sake of doing it, for Shivaay. But, she still took all my kids under her wings. I remember, once when she went on a shopping spree and bought tons of gifts for all the kids, I got insecure and screamed at her. I thought she stopped pampering them, but she secretly continued to do so. She says, now, crying and resting her head on my shoulder.

"Yeh maine kya kiya, Mummy ji? Jis Maa ne mere baccho ka dhyaan rakha, maine uss Maa ko apne iklaute bete se dur karne ki koshish ki... I condemned Shivaay to leave his own house, and he didn't stop to ask once. I did this to our family. Tears spring into my eyes, and I feel Jhanvi's soaking my dupatta.

"Everything is going to be fine, Puttar. Now that our trio is here, they will set everything straight!

"Mummy ji! Shakti ji! Aap sab kaha ho? Suno toh! Shakti ji! Jaldi aao! We hear Pinky shout aloud for us.

"Mummy ji! I think we should see what's wrong! Jhanvi gets up hurriedly and helps me up.

"Mummy j-

"Arrey! I'm here. Why are you screaming so much?

"Mummy ji! Baat hi aisi hai! She speaks in excitement as everybody gathers around, while Shivaay stands beside Annika, I can see an eye conversation happening between these lovers.

"Par hua kya hai? Shakti questions impatiently.

"Arrey! Mai Daadi banne wali hoon! Aur app Dada! She walks towards me and holds my hand, "Aur Mummy ji, aap Par Daadi banne wali ho!

We all take a moment to register her words and then everybody turns towards Annika, who is shyly standing in the arms of her husband.

"Bhabhi, sach mei? Are you really pregnant? To which she replies Rudra with a deep blush marring her face.

"Yes, Rudra! Truly! Annika said it herself. I'm not assuming things this time. Pinky answers instead with a gleam in her eyes.

"Bhaujai! Aap Maa banne wali ho! Yaani hum dono Chachi banne wale hai... Gauri exclaims holding Bhavya's hands in hers.

Annika and Shivaay walk towards Shakti & Pinky and bow down to touch their feet. While Pinky hugs Annika, Shakti pats Shivaay on his back.

"I'm so happy today, my children are giving me a grandchild. Pinky, humara toh promotion ho gaya! To which all of us share a laughter.

"Just wait here, I'll bring something sweet for everyone. Saying so, Bhavya rushes to the kitchen.

"Congratulations, Shivaay. Annika, I know you will be a great mother. Tej says politely to which Shivaay and Annika respond with a bow to touch his feet.

"Don't embarrass me, beta. I don't deserve your respect. Tej says with a glint of sadness in his eyes.

"Annika, now that you are here, and our grandchild is about to enter our lil' family, I promise you, you will have no troubles here. I will personally look after you. Jhanvi says.

"Arrey! Aap hi kyon? I'm here too! I will personally look after my Daughter-in-law and my grandchild. Pinky replies haughtily as everyone settles down.

"Actually, that is what we are here to talk about, Shivaay states as he and Annika sit beside me, "We want Mom to move in with us for a year or so.

"What?! But why? Aren't you going to stay here? Jhanvi asks in panic.

"Not for a year at least.

"But why?

"Badi Maa, we made a hasty decision to move back to India in an emotional state of mind when we discovered our pregnancy. But, on the way back we stumbled upon a few issues at hand.

"What issues? Questions Om.

"I have decided to move my head office to Mumbai, last night I also finalized a location. But it will take nearly a year or so to construct infrastructure and hire staff. Until then, my head office will remain in San Francisco.

"So why do you need Choti Maa there? Rudra asks curiously.

"Because I will be flying down to Mumbai every 2 to 3 months for a week, if work load increases- may have to extend my stay for 3 weeks. I can't leave her alone for so long during her pregnancy.

"Well, she can stay here, Billu. I interrupt. I don't want my bahu to stay away from family, in such crucial stage of her life.

"Daadi.. Shivaay trails off and pulls me into a hug, "How will I stay away from Annika? For 9 months! I don't want to miss any moment of this phase we are in.

"Sahi toh keh raha hai voh, Mummy ji. Naa Shivaay dur reh sakta hai aur naa mai Annika ko aise mahol mei yaha rakhungi. She states firmly, hinting towards her sour relationship with her Jeth and Jethani.

Everybody is quiet for a moment and is trying to overthrow this awkward situation. Tej shifts uncomfortably in his seat and Jhanvi is fidgeting with her fingers.

"That's not the only reason why I'm asking for Mom. Shivaay says with a hint of worry in his eyes.

"Oh my Maata! Aur ki gal hai? A shocked Pinky asks.

"Mom, your bahu is very careless. Last week she was about to eat an unripe papaya!

"Oh my god! Annika! Jhanvi looks at Annika in shock while she looks down scared.

"Mom, we need someone to guide us and help us when I'm not around. Both of us know nothing much about a baby. So please, move in with us? We really need you. Shivaay pleads.

Pinky walks closer and takes Annika into a motherly hug and instantly agrees to fly all the way to San Francisco for her Beta and Bahu.

A little more, Kalyani.

Shivaay's P.O.V.

Later at night.

"Shivaay...

"Hmm?

"Shivaay!!?

"Haan?

"Shivaay! Look at me!

"Annika.. I look up, "I don't have to look up to listen to you. Can't you see I'm working?

"Hawww! Baby abhi aaya bhi nahi, aur aap abhi se mujhe ignore maarne lage?

"What? I'm not ignoring you. Anyways what is the connection between our baby and ignoring you?

"Shivaay, Annika continues hesitantly, "Promise me you won't laugh?

"No, Annika. I promise, I won't laugh. Ab bolo, kya hua hai? Do you need something?

"Nahi... Shivaay I read it on the blog.

"What did you read?

"That men loose their interest in their wives... You know, because she is getting fat and ugly. And god forbid, if the baby is a girl, the man will only love the child and not the wife. She finishes her words and I can already see her lips trembling.

Oh No!

She is going to cry.

"Fhat the Wuck? I exclaim and sit beside her, taking her in my arms, "You should have told me about this the moment you read it! I thought that website is helpful! I'm going to sue the writer...

Her head now resting on my shoulder and I rock us back and forth.

"You won't stop loving me, right? I promise, I'll workout everyday after our baby is born. I'll stay fit! She says with determination.

"You don't have to do anything, Annika. I'll love you, even when you are belly is round with our baby inside. Even when you have extra baby fat on you...

"Pinky promise?

"Pinky promise.

I breath in her sweet scent and sigh in relief. Every day after learning about my baby, I can't stop myself but wonder and worry about our future.

What kind of a father would I be?

"The best kind. Annika says.

"Did I say that out loud? I ask, to which she giggles.

"Yes, you did.

"You believe in me more than I believe in myself.

"Because I know, you are capable.

"I don't know how to be a Dad. My dad was always absent from my life. I don't know how to handle this feeling. I'm scared. So scared.

"Me too. I've never been so close to a baby. When Sahil's parents adopted me, Sahil was already 2 years old. I never took care of a cute, small baby. What if I'm not a good Mom, Shivaay?

"Not possible. There can be no woman better than you to be a Mom to our baby. And we'll manage! Hum Shivaay aur Annika hai! We can manage everything. Hai naa? I try to motivate us.

"You are right. We will manage.

"Meri bahu aur chotu kaise hai? We turn around to look at my Mom standing at the door with a glass in her hand.

"Dono thik hai. Annika says with a beaming smile.

"Wait a sec! Who is this Chotu?

"Arrey, Chotu! My grandson. Or granddaughter.

"Hold on! It's Ansh. Or Shivika. Or Shikha! Not Chotu!

"Oh! So you have already decided a name for your baby! Says Badi Maa as she walks in.

"Yes, Jhanvi Aunty. We have. Annika replies politely.

"Call me Badi Maa, Annika. You are my daughter-in-law too.

"Haan. The daughter-in-law you sent on exiled. Mom spats in anger.

Annika turns to me with wide eyes, asking me to interrupt the brewing argument. As soon as I part my lips to speak up, I see Badi Maa motioning me to stop.

"It seemed to be an appropriate action, back then. I apologised to Shivaay and Annika for it.

"What can you heal with a few sweet words of apology, when your own bitter words made wounds? My mother utters aggressively, "Mera bas chale, toh mai aapko aur aapke pati ko apne parivaar aur apne hone wale Naati ke aas-paas bhi naa phatakne doon.

"Maa! Bas kijiye... Annika admonishes my mother softly, "Badi Maa, Did you need something?

Badi Maa sighs dejectedly and shakes her head in a no'. Taking a step closer, she hugs Annika and says, "I wish I could take back all the words I said to you and Shivaay in the past. But now, I can only hope that someday we will be able to forget and forgive this feud. She parts and grasps our palms in hers, "This is a new phase in your life, and I really hope, that none of the shadows of our pasts fall on our futures.

She turns to face Mom and gives her a hug, which is barely reciprocated by my mother.

Annika entwines our fingers and gives my palm a reassuring squeeze, blinking her eyes she expresses her words.

Don't worry. Everything will just turn out to be fine.'

My love for you is a journey,

Starting at forever

And ending at never.
