Part 2: Of Little Consequence...

The warm sunlight hits my face as I turn around to look at my husband sleeping peacefully. Spooning me from behind, face buried in my hair.

Soothes my soul, he says.

Looking around the room, my sight lands on Shivaay's shirt and suit lying on the floor. A reminder of our sweet little ravenous deed from last night.

Staring at his face, I see his peaceful expression. Every morning I do this, I can't help but thank the havens for sending this amazing man in my 2 Rupees life. And every morning this face makes my heart beat a little faster. Gives me the feeling of butterflies in my stomach. Makes me feel desire.

But, last night, something was different when he made love to me. Not that it wasn't passionate, because it was. But last night I could feel his anger. And his frustration. His fear.

He did not speak much. Just what he felt was necessary to say, but his eyes spoke volumes. They spoke of possession.

Gently moving out of my husband's arms, I wear his shirt and walk into the bathroom to begin my day with a hot shower in the cool weather.

As the hot water trickles down my face and body, closing my eyes I have a flashback of our difficult days after we left the huge Oberoi Mansion. It was difficult to move on and leave behind the people who we call our family, but it had to be done.

Today, settled in San Francisco, we can do nothing but miss our family. While we were successful in throwing Svetlana and Tia out of the Mansion, we were not able to mend our relations. Yet.

It all began from one morning, at my house in Mumbai. Shivaay was frustrated that he had failed repetitively in acquiring a job in the past month and was gravely stressed, when suddenly Mallika and Siddharth had shown up at our door step.

The information revealed by them, had broken his heart.

Tej Uncle had personally called up his Associates, and ordered them to boycott Shivaay. Even Siddharth and Mallika.

Worried about Shivaay, they started to look for him and found my address. After explaining the situation, Shivaay and Siddharth went out for a walk stating that they needed to have a man-to-man talk.

While Mallika and I, bonded over tea and snacks. She also revealed her good news, their unplanned pregnancy, which the couple was excited about. I had just given her a congratulatory hug and a genuine smile to which she had replied with a teasing comment and a giggle- Maine ghar walon ke alava, sirf tumhe bataya hai... Promise me, jab tum aisa good news dogi toh sabse pehle mujhe hi bataogi!

And when the men came back after nearly an hour, Shivaay had a relieved expression and Siddharth had a knowing look on his face.

Later, Shivaay shared bits about his conversation with Siddharth, that he was ready to give him a loan to begin a start-up, while Shivaay had to promise his 25 per cent shares in the name of his wife, Mallika.

Shivaay's plan was set into action where he bought a few bankrupt companies with the loaned money, broke them down and sold them off. And made more money.

I am making acquisitions, he said when I didn't understand his actions.

Soon, the loan was paid off. And Mallika was given 25 per cent shares and was added to the board of director's panel.

Now, after months of struggle, it was time to set everything straight at home.

Lots of conspiracies later, The Vamps were arrested, and the truth was out in the light.

Tej Uncle had really set the factory on fire.

Unintentionally.

But, reacted cowardly on realizing his fault. He did not help them, he ran away and Jhanvi Aunty and Maa had called anonymously for help. To which Omkara and Jhanvi Aunty had an extreme reaction.

Jhanvi Aunty came forward and apologised for her behaviour, asking us to come back home.

To my utter shock, Shivaay refused.

For the first time... My faith has been challenged, he said.

Wearing a robe, I walk into the kitchen and start boiling water for my tea.

Today, three years later, we are living a life as California's richest family. With Rudra leading world's most followed and known Fashion brand and Omkara being on the list of the world's top 20 Famous artists, both supported and financed majorly by Shivaay's Shika group of industries.

"Good morning!" Shivaay steps in just as I take a sip of my masala chai, dropping a kiss on my cheek. I feel my face heat up as soon as I notice that he isn't wearing a shirt.

"Morning," I say with a smile.

"You were not in bed when I woke up," he said with a frown, "I hate it when you're not in bed with me."

"It's 10 am!" I snort.

"It's 10 am on a Sunday, dear wife!" He says as he wraps his arms around me.

"Coffee?"

"Yeah. Americano."

"Still a Sairabano." Shivaay chuckles in reply and stares at my face.

"I'm sorry, Annika."

"For?"

"For last night," He says in a remorseful manner, "I know I was not myself, last night."

"Why?" I can see him fist his hand in anger.

"One of my associates was quite disrespectful at the party. He was drunk and spiteful. And he was passing comments about me. And you. We don't really get along, so he was probably trying to goad me." I nod my head in understanding and pour the hot Americano into a tall cup.

"Maa had called last night, when we were in a party..." He asks me to continue with his actions as he takes a sip, "She said Papa is flying down to California. San Diego. For a business meeting. He wants to see you before he flies back. His flight lands in 3 hours. So, you can call him later and I'm sure you can pull out some time for him."

"Yeah. I'll do that." He says and narrows his eyes, "But, what are you not sharing with me?"

I purse my lips together.

"Annika? What aren't you telling me?"

"Maa said Bade Papa is coming too."

And he goes silent for a few moments, but nods eventually.

"You will meet him?"

"Yes." Takes a sip of coffee.

"Will you ask Om and Rudy to meet him too?"

"I will." Another sip.

"But they won't agree?"

"They may. Or may not." Another sip.

"Shivaay, when will things go back to be the same?"

He sighs and finishes off the beverage and walks towards the sink to wash it off.

"I don't know, Annika."

"You know that Om and Rudy feel that you haven't forgiven Badi Maa and Bade Papa, right?"

"Yes. But they know that I have forgiven them."

"But they don't feel so. Since you won't go back home, they won't go back too."

"Annika... I know that you miss everyone, I miss them too. But, somethings are to be left on the time. Time will heal everything. Believe me when I say this, Om and Ru have forgiven Bade Papa and Badi Maa for all this mess. What they can't digest is, that their Dad left hundreds of breathing humans to die in a fire. It's not easy, Annika."

He walks towards me and holds my shoulders in a gentle grip, "470 and plus workers including their families were burnt to death. All they could do was scream. Om cannot get over the fact that Bade Papa fled away without even calling for emergency helplines. No Fire brigades, no Ambulances. Nothing."

I sigh. I know he is right. Om and Rudy are right.

But, I want to go back.

Maa finally acknowledges me. She calls me Beti.

Dadi is getting older and needs someone to help her around.

"Par hum ghar kab jaayenge, Shivaay?"

"Jab ghar ke teeno bete raazi ho jayenge." Shivaay pulls me into his arms, and drops a kiss on my forehead.

We part when we hear the door bell ringing throughout our penthouse. He moves to receive it and walks towards the door. He converses quietly, but doesn't invite the person in. Strange, he always invites guests in.

"Who was that?" I ask when he walks back into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.

"Samuel." He says dryly.

"Why so rude? You didn't even invite him in. I thought you liked him."

"I like him, until I found him ogling at you. So, there is no chance I will let him see you like this, in a robe!" He sneers.

"What? No! He wasn't!"

"How do you know? You weren't even looking at him!"

"Shivaay! You think all the men ogle at me."

"Because, I know you are beautiful."

"But he has a girlfriend, he also introduced her to us the other day. Remember?" I try to reason.

"Some men don't see that as a hindrance, Annika." He says with an expression which explains he is getting frustrated with this discussion.

"So, you shouldn't have opened the door either." I say playfully and he looks up in confusion.

"What if it would have been a woman at the door?" I say coyly as I move towards him and put my arms around his nape, his bare chest against mine clad in a silky robe.

"So, what, huh?" He asks huskily as he puts off the flame.

"So? So, she would have succeeded in getting a glimpse of something that's mine." I begin to trail my fingers downwards.

"Oh, yeah. Now, now Mrs. Oberoi, we can't let that happen right?" Shivaay says as he grabs my wrist as my fingers reach the waist belt of his trousers and suddenly pushes me onto him by holding my hands behind my back. Twisting my wrist gently.

"No! It can't. You are mine. Aapko taadne ka haqq sirf mujhe hai..." I reply as I try to fight the effect of our closeness and to wriggle out of his hold.

"And you're mine!" And he dives into the curve of my neck, biting down wildly and releasing my wrists.

I moan and fist his hair tightly as he then proceeds to lick the area sensually, slowly sucking in my flesh. A tingling shiver runs down my spine and I moan again. His fingers tangle with my hair and he pulls my face towards his and looks deeply into my eyes. His face expressing his love and his desire.

Closing in the remaining few centimetres of the distance, his lips capture mine. Our lips work in sync as we devour each other and fight for dominance. He wins anyway as I can feel myself lose control over my senses.

Pushing the crockery off the kitchen counter, sending them crashing on the floor, he lifts me and places me on the platform without parting our lips and stands between my parted thighs.

The rest is forgotten as we ravish eat other for breakfast.

********

Later, in the evening we drive all the way to San Jose to meet Om, at his exhibition. On the way back I look out of the window starring at the late night beauty of the city.

"Annika, please pass my charger from the glovebox."

"Okay," I open the compartment, only to see an envelope, "Koi charger toh nahi hai. Par, yeh kya hai?" As I flash the envelope to him.

"Khud khol ke dekh lo..." I says with a charming smile. And I tear it open in excitement, knowing that this is one of his surprises that he keeps showering on me.

"Two tickets to Hawaii? We are going to Hawaii?"

"Yeah. I saw it on your web searches. You were doing quite a research, Mrs. Oberoi."

"Shivaay, that is for my new client's destination wedding."

"Yeah. The destination wedding in Channel Islands, but apart from your web search, I'm sure your bucket list said Hawaii too." He turns to look at me, and continues, "You only had to ask, Annika. I'm so sorry I've been so busy. But, I would definitely take you there if you would have told me just once."

"I knew I had a smart Hubby, Mr. Oberoi." Making us laugh. "But, it doesn't matter now! All that matters is that we are flying to Hawaii!" I exclaim excitedly.

"Yes, we are. Wifey." He replies with a wink.

"I'm so excited, Shivaay! Mujhe kitna kuch karna hai vaha! Shopping, wine making, water sports and so much more!"

"Mujhe bhi kuch karna hai."

"Kya?"

"Humare rishte ko agle level pe le jana hai..."

"What is that supposed to mean?" I ask.

"Just wait and watch, Wifey." He replies with a wink.

Something is on his mind. It's a surprise again. I love his surprises, but this one seems different. He is anticipating and expecting something. As long as it makes him happy, I will not object to his wishes. Never.

One day you will kiss a man you can't breathe without and find that breath is of little consequence.
