So I felt like everyone's going a bit either Gauri or Omkara with the happenings of this week, so this piece is just what I feel these characters are really like. If you agree or don't agree please feel free to drop a reply - don't care if you're Ri supporter, Kara supporter, the very rare true Rikara supporter (love you guys when you materialise), or someone who's not convinced by any of the above. I'm not even gonna disclaim no bashing here because I'm gonna talk about two characters I love - why would I bash them? Please also be as respectful in your replies - it would be much appreciated.
If you can back up your dislike of either or, then let it out - it's your right of free speech - but know that I shall reply to the best of my ability, whether I agree or disagree. Lets be grown up about it though. Abusing our rights of free speech is no better than inviting a ban on it guys.
Omkara.
What is he?
The son of a businessman acting out to rebel against his father. The weak Oberoi brother who turned to drugs. The guy who can't see beyond his own pain long enough to refrain from misunderstanding an innocent woman. Quick to anger, even quicker to judge. The result of his father's neglect. A man who doesn't care about the woman he married. A man who values truth only when it suits him, and turns to lies as they benefit him. The man who met a girl briefly before becoming her unqualified judge, jury and executioner.
OR...
The artistic soul reared by a business family. The man who shouldered so much grief at a young age that his shoulder broke - he didn't know where to turn. The black sheep of the Oberois, who never ranked Naam, Khoon or Khandaan. Tej Singh Oberoi's heir - the rebel with the long hair. The man who forged his own path. The man whose patience ran thin in the face of constant atrocity. The result of his mother's love. A man who finds himself married, despite his own knowledge that he is not ready for that commitment. The one who tried to always embrace the path of truthfulness when it was left down to him, but found that every road was edged with gates of deceit. The man who came across a beautiful girl, one who questioned his upbringing (a question that weighs heavily on his mind), instantly disliked her because she symbolised everything he had to leave behind to protect himself (vishwaas' was her tagline), then found her about to wed a married man, whose wife was unfortunately his mother's namesake.
Ok, onto Gauri.
What is she?
An illiterate girl, who had a happy childhood (really this has been said on this forum). The Oberoi Bahu who has no angst in her own life so she invests herself in other's problems. The girl who always turns to lies but falls flat at becoming a grey character. The one who takes everything lying down from Omkara and his family. The typical Hindi Serial Bahu.
OR...
The girl who had to sacrifice her education after her ADOPTIVE father's death. The one who we saw practically raising her ADOPTIVE mother at the beginning of DBO. The one who was tortured, threatened and eventually sold by her ADOPTIVE Chacha - Chachi. The one who dealt with Kali Thakur (single-handedly in the end). The one who is really trapped in a meaningless relationship, but never looses her will. The one who has vishwaas'. The one who can forget her troubles for the betterment of the family, because that's all she's known her whole life. The DabaangRi who bulldozed Omkara's car in their first meeting because he unwittingly said he would crush her helplessness (Gauri's mother's illness) under his feet - of course he had not intended his words to have that meaning. The girl who defied tradition refusing to run for her mother's sake, but also refusing to lie down and take the atrocities Kali and his brothers had planned for her. The girl who still feels the guilt of her lies when it came to Omkara, be it Chulbul or the baby track, and this tempers her response to him. The girl who would never dream of actually stepping into grey shades, because to her she was only making her own path to the right destination, too innocent to ever fully understand the implications of her actions before being confronted with them.
Becoming Rikara.
Above everything else, Omkara is human. He is not invincible - he is not indestructible. He breaks, he stumbles. He makes mistakes, he commits sins. But isn't that what growth is all about? Why don't we give him some space to grow? It takes years in real life and yet we still relapse into our old ways. He's seen part of a picture and when have RiKara ever been given the space to talk so that they can prevent events like this? No I am not starting the SS debate - those who don't consider it an issue won't change their minds because of me. I am just pointing out until that happens can either really be blamed for misunderstanding the other's intentions. Yes he knows Gauri now, but does he really. He knows Gauri would risk her life for him, but Tej and Jhanvi also had a love marriage - that didn't last. People do change... Omkara knows that very well, so how can he put his heart on the line for someone he cannot claim to truly know. He knew Chulbul, but he is still unaware as to how much of that was reality. The only way to dispel his fear is to really communicate with Gauri. This coming track could potentially lead to the explosion that would accommodate for that, because yes people, for the first time since the merger WE HAVE A TRACK! Sense my excitement much?😉😆
Above everything else, Gauri is human. She is not weak, but even her strength can falter. She has endless stores of vishwaas' which allow her to show patience and can be perceived as her standing down and taking it. She is still so young so obviously she will think to listen to what more experienced people advise her, and given how Om and Gauri never have these real conversations (times very limited in an hour show, yaar), she will be swayed by others on what Om thinks of her. Pinky's constant jibes do have some effect. The sanctity of marriage has been drilled into her from a young age - why would she change her beliefs and forget Omkara now? Anyone who saw DBOs last episode knows that for Gauri it has always been a battle between her self-respect and this belief, hence she takes a lot of Om's taunts silently, but that will end. When that happens it can only strengthen their relationship.
This track, if handled well, could really take us there. So lets have some vishwaas' guys. Lets believe in Omkara's ingrained righteousness, lets trust in Gauri's self-respect. We may be favouring either or, but deep down we all love Rikara or we wouldn't anticipate their scenes so much, or get so disappointed at bumps in the road. 'Kal Kya patha mile na mile naazdikyan O' Saathiyaa' - Eeep Their song is so perfect.
Those of you who aren't fans but had the patience to read through my rambling anyway, thank you. I know somethings don't appeal to us, but it's really nice to respect other people's individual opinions, so thanks for your open-mindedness.😊❤️
My fellow Rikara fans, thanks for reading my POV.😊❤️
