Probably his hurt & anger is overpowering his thinking bcoz technically this guy never fell in love and never has to feel the pain of separation in love. This is the first time he is dealing with it. Before annika came back after 3 months, he wasn't actually living. After her comback, he again back to normal and his hurt/pain has been healed to some extent that is why brain started working I guess
