As soon as the clock struck 12 Shivangi rolled up the paper and sprinted out the room towards her parent's room.
Shivaay and Anika's deep slumber was broken by a knock at the door."Ani please get up and see who's at the door"mumbled a sleepy Shivaay
Anika got up and opened the door and saw their 6 Year old daughter Shivangi standing there in her Winnie the Pooh night suit
Shivi?Why are you still awake?Is there any problem baccha?Anika asked"What's the matter my princess?" asked a worried Shivaay who was now fully awake learning that it was his daughter who was at the door
She didn't answer them and walked past a confused Anika who stood at the door trying to figure out the reason of their daughter's arrival at such an odd hour of night
Shivi climbed onto the bed and settled herself on her father's lap.He smiled and kissed her on top of her head."It's for you Papa" Shivi told him forwarding the piece of paper she was holding.Shivaay looked at Anika who shrugged indicating that she has no idea about all this.Taking the paper from her hands Shivaay unrolled it.His eyes filled with tears immediately.On the paper was a drawing of a man wearing a cape and in addition to that were the words"Happy Birthday Papa!I Love You!You are my hero"scribbled with Sketch Pens of different colours.
This was probably the best birthday gift he had ever received in his entire life.He hugged her close to his heart and showered her face with numerous kisses"Papa your cheeks are so scratchy " whined Shivi.He smiled at her daughter's cuteness"Thank you,Shivi,thank you so much my Princess"Shivaay said happily
Anika's eyes brimmed with tears as she witnessed the sheer joy on her husband's face,She very well knew the pain of growing up without love of parents and she prayed to God to keep their daughter always happy.She walked towards the father-daughter duo and sat beside them.She reached out and held his hand firmly and he intertwined their hands and thanked his lucky stars for giving him a second chance."I love you Mamma.I love you Papa."Shivi said engulfing her parents in a hug.We love you too our princess,both of them said.Anika looked up at Shivaay and then leaned down to whisper something in Shivi's ear,her eyes grew wide with shock with the piece of information which her mother shared just now.She quickly ran outside and started screaming calling out for her family members.
Soon the whole family gathered in the huge living room,she ran up to her great grandmother and hugged her and said "Badi Dadi I am going to be a big sister.I am very happy Yahoo!!!!"She exclaimed in joy
Shivaay was unable to process the happenings around him and looked towards a blushing Anika for confirmation,she nodded her head in a yes with a shy smile playing on her lips Now this was indeed the best birthday of his life he thought as all the family members started fussing over Anika
17 Years Later
Shivaay walked with his daughter towards the car that was decorated beautifully with flowers and ribbons."Thank God! Finally I got rid of this witch" said Arman earning a punch from his elder sister who was crying her heart out."Shut up!I know that you will miss me."she said"Huh,don't flatter yourself OK.Me and missing you ,this can happen only in your dreams."Teased Arman
Meanwhile, Rohan came forward to say his goodbyes "Oh hello?You two.Stop fighting like kids" he said"This is the first and the last time Shivi is crying because of you, OK? After this, if you make her cry, I'll make you cry!" Warned Arman wiping his tears
"I don't doubt that at all. I'll take care of her. Don't worry."Rohan answered smiling reassuringly "And besides, I don't want to get my face broken, do I?" He joked and everyone laughed
Anika came forward and hugged her daughter"Always be happy my baccha" she blessed her daughter"I'm giving away my most precious thing to you. Always remember that... And take care of her."said Shivaay with with a heavy voice,Rohan nodded and sat inside the car.He held his hand out for Shivangi who joined it with hers and sat beside her husband.The car started moving slowly. Shivangi waved out of the window and the whole family smiled and waved back furiously.Shivaay could feel the tears making their way down his face and Anika's light sobs. He wanted to reassure her but how could he when he was the one who needed reassurance himself?He just wound his arms tighter around her who hugged him back fiercely.Out of the corner of his eyes, he saw Arman roughly wiping his eyes as he waved back to his sister
Suddenly the car stopped and Shivangi peeped out of the window and screamed"You are my hero Papa"Shivaay let out a chuckle at her kiddish behaviour,his voice choked and words failed to come out of his mouth.He just smiled wide through his tears
As soon as the car vanished in the thick blanket of fog Shivaay rushed into his study room,Arman was about to go behind him when Anika stopped him saying "It will take some time but he will come around.He needs to be alone for sometime.Don't worry he will be fine" Arman nodded understanding her point and went inside his room
After some time she entered the room with a cup of coffee in her hands and saw him standing in front of the window with his back facing her. She could figure it out easily that he was sobbing. She stood behind him and kept her hand on his shoulder.He turned,his eyes were red and tear drops trailed down his eyes."Why Ani why?why is it only the daughters who have to leave?She is my little princess Ani.How will I live without her.Now who will hug me when I return from office?Who will complain about my scratchy cheeks? Who will chat with me non-stop?Who will do my 'patti' when I will have fever?" Saying so he broke down completely
Anika didn't say anything.She just hugged him and ran her hands on his back, providing him the support he needed.She knew he had to get it all out from his system.When she said nothing he continued to speak"You know what Ani,I am sure wherever your father is,he is watching over you and as they say now I know what he would have gone through when I brought you pain so many times.He said feeling guilty for his mistakes
Anika tightened her grip around him and said"Shiv Please, there is no use of crying over spoilt milk.That was our past and this is our present,se are together now and at this moment I can proudly say that you are a very good husband and more than being a good husband, you're the best father a child can have "Anika,will our princess be happy in that house?What if Rohan turns out to be a bad husband?I can't see tears in my baby's eyes.I won't be able to see her in pain."He said as his inner fear made him imagine the worst.Shhh... Shiv,stop crying.Don't think like that.Rohan is a very good guy.I fully believe he will keep our princess very happy.Otherwise I would've never agreed to this marriage in the first place.Do you trust my choice?"She asked and he nodded lightly."It's you who have taught our daughter to be strong and fight all the odds.You are her strength,her inspiration.You are her hero.You can't break down like this Shiv and it's not like that she lives far away from us.Rohan's house is only 20 minutes away from ours.You can meet her whenever you want." She said and smiled"And you should be happy for your daughter that she got married to her first love.And I have full faith in God.Just like us they will also be together till the end no matter what."She said passing him the cup.He wiped his tears and gave her a smile.He looked towards the sky and prayed for a happy life for the sunshine of his life."You are my hero Papa"her words echoed in his mind. True that he was a hero for his daughter but today this hero has become a wretched hero.
